This isn’t a new thing in tour. Past traffic levels in tour follow the same logic with the cars.
tour is based off combos not placement, so cars don't need to knock you over to screw up the combo
Besides, Tour is already hazardous enough

I think part of it is also the cars driving over dash panels. On Wii I swear the cars would swap lanes sometimes
unlike super-8, tour is a combo based game, cars don't need to flip you over to mess up with the combo
The other traffic tracks are like this. If the cars hit you, you lose the combo, that would very annoying.
Now let’s see if they can keep the Swoops and Rocky Wrenches in the Booster Course Pass remake.
