I've drove from Cairns to Weipa a couple of times in 1977...79 when I worked for Comalco mining in Weipa. There was nothing at the Archer river then & the road was dirt / gravel all the way. I put a couple of photos on your FB post yesterday, tackling the Archer in my 1977 Sigma car. Great fun

As usual a fantastic blog very informative 20 years ago when we went up to the Cape they were taking about sealing the road all the way to Weipa 😂 it would of been great see see and hear an interview the uncle about his life and thoughts on life
It’ll be another 20 years before it gets even close I think 😅 - you are so right, we needed more time with him….. stay tuned he (Mawalan) has invited us to Arnhem Land for a few weeks of cultural immersion we will definitely do an interview if granted that would be amazing - that will be sometime august 2024 👍👍

We're settled down for a year after 18 months on our lap, to spend time with our adult children and are working again to top up the kitty :-) but planning to head off again next year. We always watched your episodes as we did our lap and continue to watch them to keep the dream alive!! We also now dream of an upgrade to a Zone caravan!! I also find the MSA products to be of great quality and value for money accessories, I particularly love their all in 1 incorporated tow mirrors (look like standard mirrors when set for every day driving) that slide out further when towing boats or for work trailers and then flip 90 degrees to go even further out to tow the van ! Very interested in your trip to the Cape - went on dirt bikes with some mates years ago and enjoyed the adventure very much and now keen to take the whole family up to let them experience the Cape as well! Can't wait! Thanks for sharing your very professional (TV ready) vlog experiences with us!

Congratulations on your 200th episode Paul, Katie and Jasper! Really love your channel, and this episode was amazing too! I have done some of the Cape on the PDR up to Iron Range NP, so remember all those stops you made along the way, but gosh the road is looking in even better condition than it was 20 years ago, even with the dust and corrugations! Archer River roadhouse has expanded and when I went up the PDR, there was no bitumen at all.. just dust and corrugations and river/creek crossings! Corrugations were tough going for sure! In some ways I would like it to remain a little bit like that, because otherwise it is too easy if everything is bitumen, but on the other hand of course bitumen is much more tolerable and comfortable and allows a greater number of people to travel to this vast incredible area, but we want it to remain a little bit special and unique to other places in Australia too, with fewer travellers I guess. You will adore Iron Range, Chilli Beach, Lockhart River and Portland Roads! Looking forward to seeing this area again next week through your eyes! Safe travels :)

I have watched you from the start and was setting up to be another one of those grey nomads my retirement dream as long as I can remember brand new Ranger Wildtrak new Caravan had the shakedown trip and then broke my ankle , 12 weeks later I was preparing to leave on the Sunday but on the Tuesday before my right knee which needs replacing collapsed and slammed my left leg into the concrete as I was getting into the Ranger and snapped both the Tibea and Fibula in half I have been advised that at least 3 years to get to just walking without a frame so had to sell the car and van so now I am unashamedly using yourselves to live my dreams vicariously through you and wish to thank you for keeping a silly old man interested in living I have flown around and worked in most major spots in Australia but now I am going to use you and the family as my eyes and wish you everything good that can happen because as a great example of a very good family you deserve it

Having done the trip to the “Tip” in 2017 but leaving our van behind at Mt Carbine , we are really enjoying your trip and tips and all the great info that you put up in your videos . Back then there were heaps of road works going on with no bitumen lengths at all . We are planning another lap next year (from Perth) and are considering doing the Cape again this time taking our caravan (which is not the one from 2017 ) which is the all electric (ERV ) van we picked up in Melbourne earlier this year . One question …… did you have the famous Archer Burger ? From Archer River RH . They are just sooooo good . Looking forward to next week’s instalment .
@@TheFeelGoodFamily The Archer Burger was renowned back when we did the Cape in 2017 from the cafe at the campground at Archer River . No croc , all good quality beef pattie and all the usual burger trimmings but huge and so delicious . We stopped the there on the way south and yes , we will probably do the drive again next year . Great episode again. Question re tyre pressures when going between sections of dirt / corrugations and bitumen. Do you keep them low the entire time or constantly increasing and decreasing?
Great question! Yes we leave them as the distance between from here on in is more dirt than tar…. We just slow down average 80km on bitumen - this was the recommendation from our 4x4 instructor 👍
We don’t actually use ‘Spotify’ music… we pay a commercial music licence through epidemic sound (approx $900AUD per annum? (link in our description) we then see if the songs we choose from epidemic sound are available to listen to on Spotify and let people know where to find the artist! We don’t actually need to do this however, we just do so that the artist can be found and this also a way for us to give more recognition as well 😊👍🕺
Hi David, the ferry price has gone up for 2024 - single vehicle return is $130 - payable by eftpos at the check in store located at the ferry entry point. Vehicle with van in tow is now $205 return. We’d always recommend having a few hundred dollars cash available as services do go down from time to time 🙌🇦🇺💙🍻 safe travels
Hi John, we have a twin compressor installed on the 79 - that gives us the option to inflate from both sides of the vehicle easily….. interestingly, it has recently failed and is getting replaced next week with a new twin compressor…. The brand is ARB 👍🏕️🍻
Great question! We keep the pressure the same as it’s far more dirt than bitumen from here on… we average 60-75kph on dirt and 80kpm max on bitumen- the tyres heat up to 28psi approx - hope this helps - this was our 4x4 instructors recommendation 👍

In some ways I would like it to remain a little bit like that, because otherwise it is too easy if everything is bitumen, but on the other hand of course bitumen is much more tolerable and comfortable and allows a greater number of people to travel to this vast incredible area, but we want it to remain a little bit special and unique to other places in Australia too, with fewer travellers I guess. You will adore Iron Range, Chilli Beach, Lockhart River and Portland Roads! Looking forward to seeing this area again next week through your eyes! Safe travels :)

I have watched you from the start and was setting up to be another one of those grey nomads my retirement dream as long as I can remember brand new Ranger Wildtrak new Caravan had the shakedown trip and then broke my ankle , 12 weeks later I was preparing to leave on the Sunday but on the Tuesday before my right knee which needs replacing collapsed and slammed my left leg into the concrete as I was getting into the Ranger and snapped both the Tibea and Fibula in half I have been advised that at least 3 years to get to just walking without a frame so had to sell the car and van so now I am unashamedly using yourselves to live my dreams vicariously through you and wish to thank you for keeping a silly old man interested in living I have flown around and worked in most major spots in Australia but now I am going to use you and the family as my eyes and wish you everything good that can happen because as a great example of a very good family you deserve it

Having done the trip to the “Tip” in 2017 but leaving our van behind at Mt Carbine , we are really enjoying your trip and tips and all the great info that you put up in your videos . Back then there were heaps of road works going on with no bitumen lengths at all . We are planning another lap next year (from Perth) and are considering doing the Cape again this time taking our caravan (which is not the one from 2017 ) which is the all electric (ERV ) van we picked up in Melbourne earlier this year . One question …… did you have the famous Archer Burger ? From Archer River RH . They are just sooooo good . Looking forward to next week’s instalment .

@@TheFeelGoodFamily The Archer Burger was renowned back when we did the Cape in 2017 from the cafe at the campground at Archer River . No croc , all good quality beef pattie and all the usual burger trimmings but huge and so delicious . We stopped the there on the way south and yes , we will probably do the drive again next year . Congratulations on your 200th Episode , another wonderful video as are all the previous ones from day 1 . Continue to do what you do and how you do it .

Great episode again. Question re tyre pressures when going between sections of dirt / corrugations and bitumen. Do you keep them low the entire time or constantly increasing and decreasing?
Great question! Yes we leave them as the distance between from here on in is more dirt than tar…. We just slow down average 80km on bitumen - this was the recommendation from our 4x4 instructor 👍

How do you get the Spotify music on TH-cam avoiding copywrite.
We don’t actually use ‘Spotify’ music… we pay a commercial music licence through epidemic sound (approx $900AUD per annum? (link in our description) we then see if the songs we choose from epidemic sound are available to listen to on Spotify and let people know where to find the artist! We don’t actually need to do this however, we just do so that the artist can be found and this also a way for us to give more recognition as well 😊👍🕺

Hi David, the ferry price has gone up for 2024 - single vehicle return is $130 - payable by eftpos at the check in store located at the ferry entry point. Vehicle with van in tow is now $205 return. We’d always recommend having a few hundred dollars cash available as services do go down from time to time 🙌🇦🇺💙🍻 safe travels

Hi John, we have a twin compressor installed on the 79 - that gives us the option to inflate from both sides of the vehicle easily….. interestingly, it has recently failed and is getting replaced next week with a new twin compressor…. The brand is ARB 👍🏕️🍻

Great question! We keep the pressure the same as it’s far more dirt than bitumen from here on… we average 60-75kph on dirt and 80kpm max on bitumen- the tyres heat up to 28psi approx - hope this helps - this was our 4x4 instructors recommendation 👍

$2.16 per litre for diesel at Hann River!!! That's cheaper than here in the big cities and just shows us all how much we are being ripped off by the fuel companies.
