Thanks so much man! You saved me $400 the dealer quoted to replace this. Your companion video for how to remove the shift knob was much appreciated as well. Both 'how to's' Worked perfectly!

Have you any idea how long it took for anyone to post something like this? I've looked all over the Internet for ways to disassemble the center console with cup holder because my mom's Subaru Outback's cup holder is incredibly dirty and I've been trying to find a way to disassemble it so I can clean it properly. 9 years of this model year platform existing and you're the first person to post anything about it

I accidentally pulled the back tabs of this part out when the cup holder caught on a drink bottle. I've been driving around with that bugging me for years. I wish I had looked this up ages ago, so simple!

Do not pull up on the back first like he did. Wait until the front of the trim is released. There are three tabs at the rear that need to be slid forward not up. You may snap these tabs off when pulling up.

I did that! Cracked the console and broke one tab. Still good enough, though.

I have a 2014 Outback. Something got under the shifter panel, I want to take out. Tried to remove the panel, but the part of the panel that connects to the armrest area does't come off easily and I am afraid of using force. Is 2014 model similar to this 2010 model and if I use a little more force, it would just come off, not to break? thanks!

Trying to troubleshoot my USB port problem inside the console. We think the fuse is not blown b/c the radio works. Anyone know which fuse is USB port if it's not the radio? Was going to pull out the console to look and see what might be causing the USB port not to work (even though radio works fine)

well whats the problem? Only iphones can connect to a radio through a USB port like an AUX cord. Androids will not allow you to play your phone through an aux port. Also the usb port is just for connecting your phone to the radio, it will "charge" but it changes off the radio which is not high enough wattage to charge your phone. If you play music it will drain faster than it charges. Thats why you get a cigarette charger because it is 120 V

      Correction
Androids will play music or gps through an AUX port but not through a USB port

For my 2012 Outback I checked Fuses 13 (20 amp Socket) and 20 (10 amp accessory power outlet), both in the passenger compartment fuse box. My USB wasn't working but both those fuses were good. Then, using an inspection mirror, I could see the USB socket was damaged; probably from jamming USB plugs the wrong way too many times.
