I hope Jerry Herman had a chance to hear Howard Keel sing this song. What a beautiful rendition. I appreciate it that Keel chose to do the song with the original show arrangement.
That expression in his eyes at the very end: that packs a wallop! Hard to describe; it was a "love pat" to his listeners, I think... What a video! His voice is magnificent. Thank you so much for posting this.
Oh my god so beautiful. I love Howard keel. Was lucky enough to see him in a production of Man of La mancha. And met him afterwards. What a gorgeous hunk of man so nice so talented so missed
What a wonderful talent mr. Keel was. I always liked him. This is a beautiful rendition of this song. Thanks for this post. It is such a bittersweet song. he acts every single word that he sings so brilliantly.
What a marvellous non-love love song. It is fun to see how Keel acts the song as well as sings it: others I've seen on TH-cam sing it without acting the role.
^To add to that, the song was written for the musical "Mack and Mabel", which originally starred Robert Preston (of "The Music Man" fame). So, yes, it's originally a bass-baritone song.
@1BlackGold1 I have, he was brilliant, a gentleman throughout, even when people continued to take photo's AFTER he had given everyone a photo op. He mildly rebuked them, & one of the people taking the photo's applauded! His voice was still worth listening to, knew his limitations compared to his younger days, but still a great nights entertainment.
I'm sorry, I think Keel was wonderful BUT the absolutely best version of this song in on the OCR of "Mack and Mabel" by Preston. Hands down, the only acceptable version of this song is by Robert Preston.
Just beautiful! He was about 73 here and in wonderful voice!
I had the great pleasure of meeting Howard in Belfast a few years ago and he was very tall and nice

Howard Keel ... musical, vocal brilliance and class all the way.
He hasn't lost a thing, despite the years. This is a gorgeous song.
I saw hin twice in concert!! Brilliant.-RIP
This is simply wonderful, great orchestration and singing, magical. Experiencing music of this quality is the nearest to heaven we'll ever get.

Brucie was a great British favourite for many years
I keep coming back to this performance, sublime...
I absolutely love this song ever since watching Torvill & Dean skate to it back in the 80's.

Howard Kell sings "I won't send roses" from "Mac and Mabel"
That tremble on his lip on the last note😭
Great singer
Never mind the song he's gorgeous, doesn't matter how old he gets.

I'm from his hometown. I was born and raised in Gillespie IL. I think my parents house is near his childhood home

un gran cantante de otra epoca
Well Sung
This has to be Howard Keel's voice which Torville and Dean used for their performances of Mack and Mabel.
I wish he had sung in Dallas...
Annie Cs You mean like? -- "I shot J.R. but I did not shoot the deputy..."
Clayton Farlow can sing!.. Does Miss Ellie know?
His lower range changed a bit, but his upper notes are just the same. Dreamy. :)
Such a pity that he had a skiing accident which precluded him from singing out as he once did.
Beautiful rendition of the song anyway.
Oh if only he wud love me
He’s miming but he prob recorded this before as he has a good voice
I'll fight for you for 'im :-()

A nice version / cover. Robert Goulet's is powerful and maybe the best!
Watching this on August 20, 2024 and the audio is awful. Just noises no voices. Thumbs down for this. Sorry
A love this song but love Robert gueley s version.
