  • This is the first video in my RV Renovation Series. In this video, I walk through the full process I used to fix and repair the subfloor and install new luxury vinyl plank flooring in our 2006 Forest River Flagstaff.
    The LVP I used came from Lowes. It's called Dockside Hickory. The trim piece reducer for the slide out was also in Dockside Hickory color. Who knew!

    MORE ABOUT THIS EPISODE:
    Our new purchase had a little subfloor damage but I didn't quite no how much. So once I started ripping everything out I knew I was going to have to replace the subfloor in a couple of main areas. I mean you can't have mold in your RV. So we ripped everything out and started with a new subfloor.
    One thing I had to do was add some new framing for support as you walked across the floor. This really made the floor feel more solid and took out the soft spots.
    I chose to start laying the new luxury vinyl plank in the bedroom along the back wall (driver's side) and work my way into and through the living room. This worked out just fine. It is a good idea to snap a chalk line to keep yourself on track and lined up with the slide.

      Thank you Sara. I'll be doing another floor soon in the tiny house series.

    Couple questions for you as I’m doing the same thing in my camper.
    1. What type of screws did you use to attach the subfloor wood framing to the aluminum rails? I read that mixed metals will corrode the aluminum. Have you had any issues?
    2. I thought the LVP was intended to be installed as a “floating floor” and shouldn’t be glued since temperature changes will cause the vinyl to expand and contract and you want it to be able to do the seems don’t bulge or separate. Have you seen any of that happen?
    Great job, loved watching this project as I’m working on mine.

    Awesome work! I am currently replacing a floor in my 2006 Rockwood by Forest River, 33ft. Whole floor needs replaced. I will be replacing it and putting down vinyl plank like you are.

      Love Rockwood. Are you replacing the subloor or just the top?

    • @htcinspirecamaro
      @htcinspirecamaro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the subfloor is junk, pulling out all the foam insulation and putting new stuff in. Adding 2x4 bracing in between the floor joists for more structural stability.

      @@htcinspirecamaro I couldn't agree more. They build them super cheap. I'm eventually going to have to replace a section in our 2018 keystone cougar. And I'll put in 2x4 support bracing just like you did. Great job!!!

      The 2x4s I used were pressure treated so they’ll last awhile if there’s any moisture presence. I attached them to the floor joists using 1 1/2” L brackets. They seem to hold well and it has stiffened up the floor already.

    IS there an easy way to cover the slide gap and make it sturdy?

    • @WillMosbey
      @WillMosbey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rich. So sorry for the delay in response. Just seeing that I didn't respond. I'm not sure about an easy way but what I used was just a standard piece of T trim and liquid nails. It actually looked good and held up nicely.

    Have you found that the vinyl plank flooring shrinks and or expands with temperature changes and movement?

    • @WillMosbey
      @WillMosbey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it doesn't change in size at all. Since it's not wood. And extremely durable! I really like it!

    What mm did you buy and is it waterproof or just water resistant?

    • @WillMosbey
      @WillMosbey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's 100% waterproof. It's from Shaw. Go check out Lowe's item 2145167. Great product.

    How many boxes of flooring did it take?

    • @WillMosbey
      @WillMosbey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know exactly. I believe it was 5 boxes. I ended up having just a little left over.
