The Void Crusade endgame system is really underrated. More than just running maps/rifts, the boards are part of a tactical map so you pick the boards to do to object the best overall objectives. Adds a nice level of complexity and control that encourages some strategic planning.

@@Nostromo2144 It's important to remember that on the flip side of the coin, a lot of people have a limited amount of time per day, if even that much, due to their busy lives. they may not be able to commit the stamina for dozens of hours on end, only to find out that the game may not be suited for them or to find it worth investing such lengths to reach the cake at the end of the trials [for those portal fans out there]. Sure, a lot of younger folk have grown up on a diet of instant gratification by devs and companies, so of course they expect it in mostly everything they do. But not always. As for me, I'm drowning in a massive backlog that i haven't touched in months, mostly due to RL issues and working full time that often leaves me tired and unfocused to do any gaming at all, as of late. This game looks interesting but it's a case of too many plates of pancakes and only so much space inside to accommodate some. There are many different kinds of groups and it wouldn't be surprising if some of the older folk like instant gratification while the younger generation has the spare time to sink their teeth into the game.
Warhammer has the Lil' Wayne strategy of releases. I don't like most of their catalog, but they release so much that I actually end up enjoying quite a few games.
I picked this one up in 2021 and it's really fun. It does enough to set itself apart from other ARPG's. It makes you work for many of your upgrades and even makes you work to unlock extra skill trees. It's not all just a matter of meeting level requirements. If you like WM40K and you like ARPG's, do yourself a favor and check this one out. The Steam Autumn sale is ending in about 90 minutes from now, but the Winter Sale is about 3 weeks away.
The action is enjoyable, and the weapon-based skills are interesting. Though it's a bit rough in terms of level and enemies' variety. That's the first game i ever play ladder, and the specifics of them is quite interesting, introducing each time a new mechanic.
It would be interesting if they made a sequel someday taking what they learned from this game. Could be the step up in gameplay and graphics that diablo 1 was to diablo 2
I went and bought the game after watching your video and I have to say, I'm enjoying it a lot. Already sank 24h of gameplay into it and the best I could describe it is: really fun. I liked the way the main storyline was written and the way characters were developed and how they interacted with each other. That tech priest that helps you out was hilarious in some dialogues. Could the game do with a bit more complexity from the start? Yes. Is this lack of complexity a show stoper when it comes to having fun? Absolutely not.
One of the better Diablo clones available (on console) and it has many unique things that make it stand out from the crowd. I really enjoy this game a lot and was hoping with the PS5 update they would have fixed some of the visual issues but even with VRR screen tearing and stutters remain 😔
Something i don't think many are mentioning is that this game plays fantastically with a controller, unlike most ARPGs. Kinda wished they added a local co-op option because this could be a good couch style game. Like Diablo 3 was for consoles.
Chaosbane is essentially the WH Fantasy equivalent of this. I'm pretty sure it's made by completely different people, but GW especially at that time really lent itself to the whole action RPG thing. Swathes of enemies, life is cheap, heroes emerge from the carnage... GW's RPG philosophy all over! And of course Inquisitor and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay are both actual tabletop games.

I love this game. Captures the 40k feel and I like that it's unique in that your skills change depending on the weapons you have equipped. So no two builds really feel alike.

Psyker is interesting, by having Varp-heat instead of mana resource, the more you cast skills, the higher the meatier and more random things happen. One time I placed mines In front of Cogitator and could not get to interaction point, was scared that will have to restart, luckily remembered about chance of spawning Daemons at high Varp-heat, so I started to spam "Spells" and then made daemon to step on mines. Psyker has the most variety in skill combinations, but it's best to not make drastic changes in Psyker's equipment mid-mission, you can mess up your "Spells"

I like that the new class is inline with the way that the Psyker and Tech-Adept work. The other 2 classes are comparatively bland, since they give up having class defining features the way the other 3 have in order to gain access to more weapon types and the execute mechanic, which isn't available to the other 3. I loved playing through the campaign as the Psyker. There are very interesting skill interactions for that class.
Not most the not ranked stuff endgame is void expeditions and doing missions on map with tarot card added for extra challenge difficult vs extra reward chance currently.
Bought the game on ps5 recently for $20 for the ultimate edition with all dlc included. Been having a blast and can't wait for the Adeptus Sororitas to come to console in a couple months or so. Very easy to get into and been looking up multiple builds to see what's out there.
Not a big fan of aRPG's but I've been looking for some game that I can occasionally play for couple of hours and chill. Martyr has been on my list but I chose Titan Quest because I had it in my library anyway. Might check out Martyr when I'm done with it.
I had been a little on the fence about it, but I like the Diablo/ARPG style of games, and I really like the Sororitas. Seems like a worthy purchase, especially if it goes on sale.
Hi Mortym! I've been curious about this game for a long time. So glad you're covering it. Also, have you ever heard of Mordheim: City of the Damned? It's a strategy game set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe. It's pretty cool.
So I keep trying to get into this game, but I always lose momentum and get a little bored by about 5 or 6 hours. The levelling progression in this game just doesn't hook me... am I missing something? Do you basically unlock all your combat options right away, and then you just get more powerful / unlock passive bonuses for the rest of the game? My character doesn't really seem to 'unfold' like other ARPGs, but instead 'number go up' ... I'd love to be proven wrong on this one.
@@emulation2369 Just popping back in. Now that I'm playing with the Sororitas DLC, the game has finally clicked for me. It probably helps that I'm able to get good fps at max settings, so the game looks and plays well now.
I really like this game (and most "diablo-likes", tbh...It might be my most played genre) but I really feel like it needs a lot more variety in the maps/dungeons. I know the devs are capable to delivering such variety and beauty, too...As they also made Van Helsing Final Cut, and that has some excellent environments. It's a shame that top down ARPGs are going "always online" and even into pay to win/pay for convenience territory (Undecember, Torchlight Infinite, and of course PoE...Altho PoE does it pretty painlessly with just selling stash tabs for real money). Grim Dawn and Titan Quest are the best, IMO. Along with Diablo 2. PS: I just noticed you topped 100K subs! congrats! You deserve it.

Eh such a dumb reason to keep it online, I don't know if that many people play pvp enough to justify it but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make. It could easily be an amazing game.
I found the lack of skill variety for a lot of ranged weapons to make it a bit boring for me, unfortunately. I found most ranged weapon abilities were variations of single shot, area attack, and rapid firing. Maybe I missed out by not playing deeper into the skill tree (all passives, unfortunately, as active abilities are tied to weapons). I think the Psyker might be the most interesting one I tried, even though I didn't play him for long.
I fully agree with the endorsement for the base game and it's tech priest expansion, easily provides 100h or more of fun and you can usually get the full package for 20$. However the new Sororitas DLC seems way overpriced for just offering the new class with no new acts or major systems at 15$. Also from reading around it's quite buggy as well.
Space Marine, third person shooter with a really satisfying melee system. And it will introduce you to WH’s Orks, the most fun faction in that setting.
Played this game when it first came out it had its problems mainly 2 I remember that prevented all progression in the campaign that thankfully was fixed but my biggest problem is that the tech adept class doesn’t get to play the base campaign being locked to the prophecy dlc also some end game content is locked behind single player although that might have been fixed they said they’d make multiplayer and I haven’t played in awhile
It started okay but the 2.0 patch really changed it for the better. Ever since then they patched the game like crazy and it's now one of my favourite Diablo style games. After you craft and see you can reroll stats and stat number individually instead of hoping for the perfect combination, you can't go back to D3.
Inquisitor is such a typical Warhammer 40k game - the premise is cool and the setting is amazing but the actual gameplay is underwhelming and uninspired. Don't forget the jank.
@@emulation2369 Glad you like it! I really wanted to as well but I was quick to get disappointed. I only blame myself for buying into it. I am still in doubt whether I should buy Chaos gate. It looks good and polished but still lacking that depth that I look for in games.
@@theblobconsumes4859 Trust me I tried, but there is some serious DMR on Chaos Gate which only a select few can crack. Those groups haven't yet so there is nothing available. I doubt they will spend the effort given the relatively niche audience.
Please tell them that embodied saint needs a proper animation, it looks bugged when she hangs there unmoving. Like one of those ancient 2D sidescrollers.
The game starts to get much better at level 60/70. Look up any specific class builds on TH-cam and it's night and day. Just like any ARPG, 4-5hrs into the game is slow and monotonous. Not a great game but the atmosphere and later game gear builds provide a lot of fun.
Really mixed on this one. Have been tempted to buy it, but the always online + what appears to be poor servers has me holding off. I do like Neocore's games (Van Helsing and King Arthur), and while I'm not into Warhammer I did like the other Warhammer arpg (Chaosbane).
I remember this game had very bad release, but looks like they improved it somewhat. It still has mixed reception and also a rather huge amount of dlc (even emotes as separate dlc?), they really should start giving license to some better studios.
Just opened steam, its -80% discount. I sometimes hate their guts when it comes to focus their games on other factions, I do love space marines, but we need more fun exposure to other factions.
It really makes the weapons feel good and does a good job with aesthetic feel, unfortunately the gameplay loops is very samey and becomes stagnant early in. That said, I'm not the biggest arpg guy and I find that to be an issue for most of the genre.
This is an action RPG game in the W50k universe. Enough said XP - In all seriousness tho I wish the graphics were better, not just resolution and textures but like, animations and gore of deaths. Even in the W40K CRPG kills have more unf to them, simply because the way enemies die gruesomely is better animated. They actually fall and explode apart, not just turn into giblet-mush.
Just this minute I snatched up the Complete Edition on steam for £13.39 - midweek madness. Down from £65. Even if this game is hot garbage, that is probably a bargain.

My main complaint on this game is it is an online-only game for some reason. Let me play solo offline. My secondary complaint is the map system is confusing as hell.
This is a decent game. I've put in almost 200 hours. BUT! I want to play as the even worse guys of the galaxy(there are no good guys). Chaos, Orkz(the happiest guys in the universe!), Necron, Tyranids. I'm sick and tired of playing the Empire of Mankind and its various factions. Heck, give me some Eldar even. Anything but another human.
I like the game a lot. Have around 1000 hours in it. I have breaks, but always come back to it after some time. I like the seasons in the game. Only negative about the seasons is, they are to long. Six month is to long for those. If they were just 3 month it would be a lot better.
This game always bummed me out. The trailers were always a badass space marine type decimating chaos beasts. But the closest thing you get to that in the actual game is the crusader and it’s not nearly as cool.
Love d it, it combined my favorite warhammer and aprg genre together. But be warned, this game doesn't have great end game contents. He'll, it's doesn't even have decent end game.
Really like the game but to reach max lvl it's grindy as hell. The maps aren't always well designed, some promise were never kept (like the retinue system, the tank and the mech), the battlefields could have been amazing with all the promises that were made. Same with the solar systems and everything that could have been behind. Still, it's a very good game which was improved many times and I'll play it a lot more. I just hope they'll make a sequel and improve on everything, implement what was never implemented in the first and completely change the skill tree system which is too confusing.
The always online just killed it for me. Still not buying it untill the game have offline mode & I am sure there are way better ARPGs that I have played.

The problem is Diablo 2 removed a few fun things from Diablo 1. I'd rather not see a follow up to Inquistor be THAT drastic of a change.

I never liked this kind of game after the original gauntlet (the true father of the genre), but I love this one. And the story is very well written.

Its a fun game. I enjoyed my time with it on ps4 a bit after it released. Not a fan of the online requirement even when playing solo tho

Just opened steam, its -80% discount. I sometimes hate their guts when it comes to focus their games on other factions, I do love space marines, but we need more fun exposure to other factions.

It really makes the weapons feel good and does a good job with aesthetic feel, unfortunately the gameplay loops is very samey and becomes stagnant early in. That said, I'm not the biggest arpg guy and I find that to be an issue for most of the genre.
I kinda like Martyr but the grind is eternal...
This is an action RPG game in the W50k universe. Enough said XP - In all seriousness tho I wish the graphics were better, not just resolution and textures but like, animations and gore of deaths. Even in the W40K CRPG kills have more unf to them, simply because the way enemies die gruesomely is better animated. They actually fall and explode apart, not just turn into giblet-mush.
Just this minute I snatched up the Complete Edition on steam for £13.39 - midweek madness. Down from £65. Even if this game is hot garbage, that is probably a bargain.
something this game lacks is the mob/map clearing abilities other ARPGs have.

My main complaint on this game is it is an online-only game for some reason. Let me play solo offline.
My secondary complaint is the map system is confusing as hell.
I played it for a few months on PlayStation and never once found another player to match with, so it is an odd thing for sure.

This is a decent game. I've put in almost 200 hours.
BUT!
I want to play as the even worse guys of the galaxy(there are no good guys). Chaos, Orkz(the happiest guys in the universe!), Necron, Tyranids. I'm sick and tired of playing the Empire of Mankind and its various factions.
Heck, give me some Eldar even. Anything but another human.
I like the game a lot. Have around 1000 hours in it. I have breaks, but always come back to it after some time. I like the seasons in the game. Only negative about the seasons is, they are to long. Six month is to long for those. If they were just 3 month it would be a lot better.
Is it always online? Doesn't help game preservation.

I had a ton of fun with this game, but I found the endgame to be annoying due to the very limited stash space for upgrades and crafting mats.
This game always bummed me out. The trailers were always a badass space marine type decimating chaos beasts. But the closest thing you get to that in the actual game is the crusader and it’s not nearly as cool.
Love d it, it combined my favorite warhammer and aprg genre together. But be warned, this game doesn't have great end game contents. He'll, it's doesn't even have decent end game.

Really like the game but to reach max lvl it's grindy as hell. The maps aren't always well designed, some promise were never kept (like the retinue system, the tank and the mech), the battlefields could have been amazing with all the promises that were made. Same with the solar systems and everything that could have been behind.
Still, it's a very good game which was improved many times and I'll play it a lot more. I just hope they'll make a sequel and improve on everything, implement what was never implemented in the first and completely change the skill tree system which is too confusing.

It is a good game thanks to all the bug fixes and improvements. Sisters of Battle doesn’t really fit but I will still play one
The always online just killed it for me. Still not buying it untill the game have offline mode & I am sure there are way better ARPGs that I have played.
Whenever I hear "online only" I'm automatically out. Otherwise I'd be all over this.

I was kind of disappointed on release tbh. On Console it's almost unplayable. Too many frame drops and the controls are sub par. On PC it was decent to play.
The only problem i have with this title, i have no clue how to make good builds.
