One that I’ll never forget as a Mets fan: 2007. I was in high school. Giants- Mets. Bottom 12th. Benítez pitching, Reyes on 3rd, Delgado at the plate, Mets down by one run. Benítez balks, Reyes scores. Game tied. Delgado hits the next pitch for a home run. Game over, Mets win.

I was in elementary school and I didn't finish the game since it was late and I was tired. What about the play in which Jack Cust (Orioles) was running home as the tying run? The catcher Posada (NYY) was out of position because Cust had been in a run-down......all Cust had to do was simply not fall down while running to the plate and the Orioles would have tied the game. The 4-2-5-7-2-Int and Wong getting picked off probably should've been back-to-back, given that they happened in consecutive games.

erichzunker1 Also, Bergman’s infield popup against the Padres April 8, 2018, that went 6 feet, dropped, and the winning run scored in the 10th.

The strangest game ending in MLB history began October 27, 2008 and was completed October 29, 2008 resulting with the Philadelphia Phillies winning the World Series.

I can provide that for the play at 1:04, the obstruction call on the Red Sox that gave the game to the Cardinals. It happened in Game 3 of the 2013 World Series. The score was tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, with Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina on third and pinch-hitter Allen Craig on second. Batter Jon Jay hit a grounder that Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia caught with a diving stab. He threw to Boston catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who tagged out Molina at the plate. Saltalamacchia then threw the ball toward third baseman Will Middlebrooks in an attempt to get Craig, who was running on the play. But the throw was off the mark, and as Middlebrooks attempted to catch it he lost his balance and fell down on the basepath as the ball bounced off toward left field. As Craig tried to advance to home, he tripped over the fallen Middlebrooks and fell to his hands and knees. Third base umpire Jim Joyce and home plate umpire Dana DeMuth both called obstruction on the play; and although the ball reached home in time for Saltalamacchia to make the tag, Craig was awarded the base because of the obstruction, winning the game for the Cardinals. It was a particularly bitter pill for Boston, because there was no way that Middlebrooks could have gotten out of the way -- it was simply an accident. But the rules state that obstruction is called whenever a runner is impeded by a fielder who does not possess the ball (nor is he in the act of fielding the ball) -- REGARDLESS of intent. It was only the second time in the history of baseball that a game ended on an obstruction call, and the only time in a World Series game. Boston went on to win the series in six games. This video shows the play from several angles, including a slow-motion closeup of the obstruction. Notice Joyce pointing down to declare that obstruction has occurred. th-cam.com/video/dOlihOEDXgE/w-d-xo.html
