    What I really love about your tutorials (apart from the excellent presentation technique) is that for busy designers like myself you sometimes are so busy working on someone’s artwork that you leave yourself no time for experimenting with what each button and variable can do and therefore miss a lot of the potential of the software. This is the case with this tutorial. You have shown me enough new surprises that have given me some new ideas! Thank you so much!

      Thank you, John. TO be honest, i learn a lot through my own tutorials too. Some tools i have used for years and never known they can do that. To be honest, for the past years i always added the 2 in m2 with a little extra text ;)

    Mixing up „font“ (Schriftart) and „letter“ (Buchstabe) in some cases makes it hard to follow sometimes. Never the less very useful information. I enjoy every single tutorial. Especially your viewpoint as a designer leads to knowledge, that we wouldn‘t get otherwise. Thank you so much!

    I Like Your Presentation, Olivio. Thank You.
    I am an amateur with Affinity - I only use it because I HAVE to (to do layouts for church music ministry).
    I am having a MAJOR problem just trying to find out how to get my font/text to follow a curve (specifically to follow the circular path of the top/bottom of a CD/DVD layout).
    If you have the time... maybe you could share the knowledge herein reply for anyone else having the same issue.
    Regardless... thank you for all your help in these videos!

    When they are all large caps how do you change them to small caps with the first letter only being the large one? Thank you.

    Hi Olivio, thank you very much for an excellent video. I am using a Font called Moonbeam but it is a bit weak. In the character box, where you showed options for the font made by the designer, it doesn't give me any options, like for instance bold. Any suggestions as to what I could do?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, smovey10, that font doesn't seem to have any Bold option. But you could try to go to Layer Effects and us "Outline" to make it fatter. Click on the little cog wheel icon next to the Outline Layer Effect and in the new window choose "Outside" or "Center" as the alignment options. See if that helps and if the result looks good enough for your use. Make sure you also click the "Scale with Object" Option on the lower left of that Outline Settings Window

    Thanks for this Olivio. I was working with this today.
    Just a small English tip - LEADING is pronounced "ledding".
    The term comes from the days of hot-metal typesetting when thin strips of lead, known as reglets, were inserted by hand between the lines of type to add vertical space. That description is from adobe site. :)

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Pete i didn't know that. not sure i will remember that pronunciation, but that historical bit sure helps :)

    I see there is a up and down button for every font option EXCEPT font size. Photoshop had both + and - buttons as well as a place to drag your mouse to change the size. Is there something like this in Affinity? I can't find it and it's annoying to type in every size I want to try.

  • @voxdevaux7581
    @voxdevaux7581 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Once again, thanks for your tutorial. I clicked all those buttons, but some of them didn't seem to have any effect, like kerning and tracking. Now I know how they work. Yah!

    How to make text with curved shapes, as in banners? Of course you can use the liquify tool and do it by hand, but is there a better way? If you type text with the "artistic text" tool, there is even a function called, "convert to curves," but it doesn't seem to do the trick.

    Is there a way to download other fonts into Designer? There is a font in Word that I would love to use in Designer but it isn't available. I tried tracing over it with a picture of the text but it seemed too time consuming and my skill level is not quite up to par lol. Any help would be appreciated. The font is Edwardian Script btw....

    Love all of your videos. One comment is that your accent sometimes confuses thing. Example is with Leading. Your pronunciation sounds like (leeding) as in leading someone by the hand. When in fact it should be (ledding) as in the metal element, lead. This comes from the days when type was set with lead and when you wanted to add space between the lines, you would add lead. I know this because I am that old and I used to set type with lead.
