This is awesome!!! I did the same with my son at just a month or so younger. He’s now 30 and an incredible outdoorsman. He’s more at home in the woods than in civilization.... We just got back from a week long backpacking/fly fishing trip in the backcountry of the Smokeys. On the 7th day when we were hiking out he says to me... “I’m just getting started I wish we could stay out here another week.”.. and I felt the same.... good luck with your son.... you are definitely doing it right man!!! Keep it up!!!

The headline here is not that you took a 10 week old backpacking. That baby is happier attached to mama 24/7 than he would be sitting in some baby storage device at home. The freaking headline is your wife hiking 10 weeks post-partem. What the actual heck. Mad respect.

So cute! This is a good reminder that having a kid doesn't have to mean putting landscape photography and backpacking on hold.
Though it does mean I might have to upgrade my pack from the 3400 to the 4400 if I decide to do the same :)
How amazing! We also do hiking with our toddler in Nepal (he's now 2 but we started early as well) but we didn't try camping yet!!! You guys rock! You're right about this that earlier you start hiking with your baby, the easier and better it will become over the years, it can be only good. It is amazing how the outdoors can bring out the best in kids. Loves this video. So inspiring. 👍

Congrats on becoming new parents. I guess you have been prety busy with the little man as you havent been posting! Were taking our little one on his first trip next week and just came across this video again and has motivated us to get back out there! Nice easy one down to mystic beach here. Ours just hit 6 months!

I love your positivity Iron! I'm in Seattle also. I was in a nasty motorcycle accident 6 years ago and have limited mobility in my right leg. It gets better all the time though! I need to use both my forearm crutches when on trail. Can you recommend any good day hikes with little elevation change close enough for me to drive to? So far I did 3 hours at Cougar Mountain Park and same at Carkeek. Not a lot, but immeasurable to me. Keep up the fab content!
Nice one! Love to see kids on the trail! Gear and goals change quite a bit with kids, but it's awesome to have them out with you.
I'll wait for next summer to get my newborn out I guess...she's 5 days old today...kind of too early right now (and pandemic and all of that). The other kid is already 3y old now and he likes walking in nature a lot.
Here in Italy we tend to go in organized campsites and do lots of day-hikes around the mountains, but I'm pushing (and doing my research, learning, trying stuff out, finding suitable trails) to do multi-day trips too...we'll see ;)
Gear & goals change drastically. That's for sure! Ya man seeing kids on the trail is the best. Stoked to hear your kids are little hikers & congrats on the new child. 🙌 Hope you guys get out on some awesome trips. 😃

I saw a video of a 9 month year old this year on a thru hike attempt of the PCT.
Holy smokes! That's wild. That kid must have some insanely awesome parents. I met a 5 year old thru hiking the PCT when I was doing it & I will never forget that. Definitely a life goal for me to get my son on a long distance trail.

Have you fallen during a hike? I fell during a hike last Friday and I was carrying my 6 month old I turned before hitting the ground so I took the hit. Nothing happened to him thank God but I felt terrible about it, kind of scared to go outdoors with my son now 😢

Have you done any intense or somewhat difficult mountain hikes since then, using a baby carrier backpack? My wife is due in October and we wanted to do a long U.S./Canada road trip next year in summer with lots of mountain hikes and some backpacking as well. Hoh River Trail to Blue Glacier in Olympic National Park is what I was thinking about as a good overnight hike in the mountains since I have done the hike before and we can set up camp at low elevation.

Don’t mean to be a Karen, but why put your newborn baby at so much risk? Anything can go wrong in the wild.... a killer, an accident, harsh weather conditions, wild animals.... list goes on. Baby should be safe and cozy at home 😞
