Apart from winning the Lipton, she also beat Seles for the first time to win the Canadian Open, was a finalist at the US Open and a semifinalist at the Australian Open. Apart from Seles, she had the best hardcourt record of anyone in 1992. Arantxa is a great example of how hard work and steady improvement can take you to the top.

I agree . She did loose 14 times against top tens in 92 also . But in 94 she was 15 wins and 5 losses . That’s impressive. 92 she was just so incredibly consistent.

She really showed the world she is a great player. Arantxa also beat Seles to win Canadian open and she best Graf to reach US Open final.
Many were also expecting Sabatini to win in the final, after her great win over Graf in the other semifinal. However, Arantxa prevailed in both matches, and even defended the title in 1993. 👍

@@JacquesHsuI was just reading about Arantxa's 1993 season and I was shocked to read that she went almost a year without winning a title, from Hamburg in early May 1993 to Amelia Island in April 1994. Very strange.

The losses are less important. Better to lose against top 10s in the deeper rounds than lose against no names.

Capriati played pretty badly here, but Sanchez would make her play one more ball and the errors came
