This must be the most unrealistic collapse of any structure in this series! The principle of an arch bridge is that the loads are balanced along the arch and into the hinges at each end. If the bridge failed, both sides would fall toward the middle. The failure depicted here shows both sides just hanging in mid-air, an impossibility! The most likely failure would be, first the road sections would drop individually into the harbour over many years, leaving the arch intact. Eventually, the arch would begin to crush in the centre. Yet this would take many, many decades. The final collapse would likely be with the two sides finally fall towards each other and into the harbour. If you consider how many arches built in ancient times by the Romans and others are still standing, you will realise that arches are extremely stable structures. The Hells Gate Bridge in New York City, which inspired the SHB, has been estimated to last over 1000 years. Quote "The February 2005 issue of Discover magazine estimated that, if humans were to disappear, the bridge could last for at least a millennium". Unquote. Source: Wikipedia.
@Oiga_lleb look at the bridge collapsing scene behind it, and you'll see the opera house is still standing with the sails intact, because the narrator said "where the opera house once stood"
This is very heartbreaking for me because I live in Australia 🇦🇺 :(
You could always fix it in 2110. Only half the deck collapsed, but where else would you direct Sydney's traffic? 2:21
