What is failed to mention is that Galactus's hunger is tied to the universes need to keep expanding. When Galactus consumes energy, part of that energy goes to keep the expansion of the universe going. This is done to provide evolving races more time to evolve beyond the physical. Thus surviving the collapse of everything physical. Many of the races in the previous universe, including Galactus's own, died before they could evolve further. Galen survived the collapse of the previous universe in a ship he designed himself. Tho dying of radiation posioning he came to the attention of the embodiment of the previous universe, who saw in Galen a chance for the cycle to last longer. Thus giving more races a chance to evolve.
Galactus: The only guy who can literally EAT a planet and still be hungry 5 minutes later. The dude's metabolism is "out of this world."
