DOT Drag Radial is where its at. MT Street S/S or 555R2s or R888R's. Drive modes for the most part are irrelevant to straight line racing.
    1. Touring mode is often suggested to initiate weight shifting on launch (This only works on certain types of Camaros, and the normal SS does not benefit from this. But the 1LE's will due to MRC)
    2. Sport mode - Although a lot of people suggest this mode for drag racing, the only difference between Track and Sport is throttle response. People suggest Sport has better throttle response, actually it doesn't. The difference is in how much pedal to power ratio is relevant to each mode: TL:DR Sport mode = less pedal more power relative to position of pedal. Track mode is a 1:1 ratio.
    3. Track Mode - More geared towards track use, but doesn't hurt anything on a drag strip. I race in Track mode at the drag strip.
Now the difference between each driving mode on a standard SS is just throttle response, and how the transmission holds gears longer. Touring mode is designed to reduce RPM's as quickly as possible. Lower RPM's = better gas mileage. Sport and Track modes hold higher rpms longer before shifting.
Now lets talk about Performance Shift Mode: Does not make the transmissions shift faster. All Performance mode does is downshifts to the lowest gear possible relative to speed. It will hold that gear for 7 seconds before shifting automatically. To hold that gear you need to put the stick in manual mode. Then once you get on the gas move the stick back to Drive and let the transmission do its thing. This is also how you roll race in the A10 transmissions.
And since you seem to be struggling activating Performance Shift mode its easy.
To activate Performance Shift mode: Note: First gear usually shifts at or below 37-40 mph (you may not be able to activate performance shift mode at those speeds.)
    1. Slam the gas pedal to the floor and immediately let off without hesitation. Its just that simple. So lets say you are going 50mph cruising, you want to enable performance shift mode: SLAM the gas pedal to the floor and let off right away.
    2. Move the stick to manual to hold that gear longer than 7 seconds.
    3. Slam the gas and move the stick to Drive.
    4. Profit
DO NOT use paddle shifters! There is a measurable delay in shifting. Let the automatic do what it is designed to do. It is measurably faster than paddle shifters and M6's.
Now lets talk about launching from a dig.
The rule is simple: Spinning ain't winning. No its not just a cliché. Any amount of spin means you are doing it wrong.
Do not do what this video instructs. Torque the RPM's to your desired level. When you are ready to go, let off the brake, and wait for the car to actually move forward, then hit the gas sharply, but do not instantly floor it. Listen for your first shift on the transmission. If you shift before 37-40mph you accelerated to slowly to be optimal on the launch.
If you CANNOT hit the pedal faster to accelerate harder:
    1. better tires
    2, the road is bad,
    3. the track is poorly prepped
    4. the temp is not optimal
    5. DA is high
    6. Humidity is high
    7. the tires are cold
    8. you need to do a better burnout
    9. you did to much of a burnout (run flat tires get oily when you do to big of a burnout)
The list goes on and on.

Loved the video ! I just about gave up on finding a car like the Camaro until I found a 2017 2SS with the 50th anniversary option. I bought it used and as soon as I saw it I had to see if it was what I was hoping for. I grew up in the 70s and have been around some great cars but when I drove the 2017, I bought it the same day. I’m not into street racing or anything else but I do love to get out on the roads with little or no traffic and have a little fun with it. It restored my faith that there were actually some great high performance cars still out there. I’ve had some young wannabes try egging me into a race but it’s not worth the time, especially since many of them don’t know what they’re doing and I see so many of them killing themselves or some innocent bystanders. I have made several mad when I told them their car sounds like a lawnmower without a muffler 😂. I have been wanting to take it to the local drag strip to see what I can do in a 1/4 mile but I’ve only ever raced dirt track cars. What can you tell me to help me get a good launch and time ? I don’t have any mods on it, I am running some good continental tires and it has a butt load of traction but can anyone give me some good advice on how to launch it and get the best time I can ? It does have an automatic in it which I actually enjoy. Thanks to anyone that has any advice for me !

Pro tip: if you put it in competitive mode ( press the TC button twice, while in sport or track) it always will be in performance shift mode if you press the accelerator to the ground, until you let off the accelerator after a harsh acceleration and it starts to downshift.

    • @NigelDRealest
      @NigelDRealest  ปีที่แล้ว +4

This isn't true bro. Performance shift is not always on just because you activate comp mode. "It activates when you push the car under hard acceleration, braking or corning. Basically holds an higher RPM with out downshifting. It will automatically pull out of it once you start to drive normal again"

@@NigelDRealest you must not be able to read because I said performance shift mode will always be on while in competitive mode IF you press the accelerator to the ground, until you let off the accelerator after a harsh acceleration. Maybe you should go back and reread my comment and try to comprehend it before telling me I’m wrong because you literally just repeated the same thing I did. 🤡

@@NigelDRealest it’s all good brother! I have mad respect for you. In this day and age, people don’t want to own their mistakes and just want to argue, until they think they right. The true test of a man is when he can admit when he is wrong. Sorry about the disrespectful part of my comment. There are just so many toxic dudes on this platform, trying to start little petty arguments, and I thought that is what you were trying to do. Like I said, mad respect!🫡

Do you have a video with just how to use the paddles? Both of my Camaros have them and I don't know how to use. Also, how do you turn off the touring/sport/snow mode? Thank you so much!

Nice video. The wife and I are looking at getting a muscle car. I’ve been looking at Camero but can’t afford the zl1. I wanted something for onroad fun. Can the ss be competitive on road course

Absolutely. If you want something competitive on a track look at camaro ss 1le package. The 1 le has larger brakes, wider tires, better downforce, mag ride suspension

My guy, I really appreciate your trying to help done people out, but there were a lot of bad advices in this...
Firstly since it's where you started, it's the fuel, these cars when filled will have 120lbs extra in them, verses 30 at 1/4 tank, that 90lbs difference will make a huge difference, and yes you do want to make sure your fuel pump remains cooked by the fuel, but believe me I've spent an entire night doing constant passes starting at a 1/4 and never got the fuel light till events ended, worst case add as necessary...
Secondly, the biggest mistake in these cars from the factory are terrible tires, I appreciate you've made an effort in addressing that but honestly semis are the way to go, and yes they get expensive but there are some good budget options on the market, if cash is tight I'd say throw on some nankang ns2r's but I'm definitive not running street radials.
Then, and this is the biggest most important one, especially in a slippery surface, if you get in it, and you feel the car get a bit loose, coming off the throttle too much can be a grave mistake, cause you can cause lift off oversteer and put yourself in a wall...
What you got right is using the auto to shift for you, so start it in manual, pull off, throw it in auto let the transmission do the work

Feather the pedal. Don’t floor it right from the start. I know it isn’t good for the brakes and differential but when you are racing, trans brake (hold brakes to floor while simultaneously pressing the accelerator to about 2k RPM) while in competitive mode and then let off the brake when ready to go and punch the throttle. Tires also have a lot to do with these Camaros because of how much torque they have and how they are geared in 1st-3rd. I recommend going with the Nitto R2 305’s on the rear, if you still plan on driving it on a he road. If you are just mainly planning on tracking it, Mickey Thompson full drag radials are the way to go. I run Nitto R2 305/30/20 on the rear and Nitto G2 275/30/20 on the front and im putting down 505 rwhp and they hook very very well. Ain’t worth a shit in the rain but I don’t drive my car in those conditions. If you want an all around tire that performs well in the rain and track, I would go with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s.
