going back with my best friend December 8th and 9th! Colonial Williamsburg is my favorite place ever, it's a dream of mine to work as an interpreter there at some point too
The governors Palace is my favorite building, especially the gardens. The last time we were there, several years ago, we went to a recreated witch trial and we were on the jury. Super cool and fun!
Have fun! Glad this was helpful. Christmas time in Williamsburg is great because of all the colonial era decorations and lanterns. Thank you for watching.
I’ve picked this as my next trip. I’ve been before but as a kid. Cannot wait to go back now for a few days and explore. Not going til September but can’t wait!
You forgot to mention the Griffin Hotel that is on property as well. There are two buildings....the Green wing and the Gold wing. It's a great place to stay and within walking distance to the center of town. Some rooms actually have wood burning fireplaces as well.
The shopping area is Merchants Square NOT Market Square. Market Square is 1/2 way down Duke of Gloucester Street-the area where the Magazine and Courthouse (not Capitol) are. That’s where markets and public auctions were held in the 18th century. Merchants Square is on the west end by the College, where 21st Century tourists shop, today.
They used to have more for sale online. Take a look at shop.colonialWilliamsburg.com for their online shop which has 18th century reproduction goods and clothing/accessories
@@travelingtipps Nope those masks would do utterly NO good with fumes. Zero. We Doctors always thought it was laughable that anyone would think a small virus wouldn't go right through those masks. Great video though, Thank you for this.
What an incredible eye you have for beautiful cinematic effect!! Are you a professional photographer or is the vlogging experience that has honed your skills? You are def a cut above the rest, Michael!! And your spoken content is also exceptional. My compliments!! I find one of the reasons one must stay for at least 3 nights in CW is that different trades and taverns are open on different days. Many are closed on some days and it can be disappointing if your heart is set on going to Basset Hall or the Cabinetmakers and it is closed for that day. Thank you so much for a wonderfully informative and fun tour. *I believe a young Tom Jefferson studied Law and was mentored under George Wythe.
I would recommend staying at Colonies at Williamsburg, Vacation Village. It is a lovely property. We stayed there in 2019. A warning though! Please do not get snagged by the Concierge. She or he will offer you tickets to Old Williamsburg for just 90 minutes of your time. We fell for it. We were lied to by our sales agent Jackie, convinced to buy and now we our out $45K, all of our savings. My husband is a 100% service connected Vietnam Vet. I have been contacting the CEO's of VV for months with no response. Enjoy the property but go through Airbnb or some other rental and DO NOT BUY!!
This video is awesome! I’m dying to go to Colonial Williamsburg! Any ideas on how much a reproduction dress at Tarpley’s costs? I haven’t been able to find out anywhere. I appreciate your help 💗
This was filmed in early May 2021. Some of the pandemic restrictions in place at that time are no longer in place. Also, the gardens tend to change pretty frequently.
I must have misspoke. There is a Market Square next to the Magazine in the historic district, and then Merchant's Square is the modern shopping area adjacent to the College of William & Mary at the western end of Duke of Gloucester Street.

The witch trial sounds like so much fun! I’ll add that to my list for next time I go!
@@travelingtipps so much fun! Very good acting and afterwards the cast hung around to talk to everyone outside.
Thanks for this great overview, I'm possibly planning a trip in December 2021

Thanks, I've been there it's a great place to visit, especially if you enjoy our country's history.
Absolutely. Thanks for watching!

Yes, that is another great option!

Since I will probably never get there wish they had a catalog to sell their products , clothes, baskets, barn lanterns, ect.
They used to have more for sale online. Take a look at shop.colonialWilliamsburg.com for their online shop which has 18th century reproduction goods and clothing/accessories
Thank you
Just amazing to see a blacksmith working alone in a shop with a mask on. Glad those days are behind us.
It was definitely an unusual time. Tho the mask is probably good in general for not breathing in the embers from the fire etc...

I went in the 90's and saw tall ships at the marina.
We'll never be able to count the cost of the pandemic shut down

They're a bit expensive, I recall they were a couple hundred dollars
I loved it
