The route brings back such memories of living just half a mile from here! My husband was in the military! I miss this so much! Hopefully, soon, we will be back!

I love Colonial Williamsburg! I began taking my children there in 1999 and went back 8 or 9 more times. We would take Amtrak from NYC straight down to Williamsburg, then a 5 minute taxi ride to the Lodge. So convenient! We loved it!

I've been there twice. First time as a high school student in 1980, second time in 2011. Love that place. I could spend a month there.

Oh wow...my parents “dragged” my brother and I there in 1979 and I was furious. I was 16 and “hated” my family and our summer vacations. Needless to say I loved it, and all these years later I would give my left arm to travel back in time and enjoy that day with my family.

@@JF-NYC-NJ-Girl I'd love to go back again today, but travel is so expensive now I don't know if that will ever happen.

    P. Allen Smith Wow! I'd like to learn more about both of these 2 U.S. Presidents named George Washington (Friday, February 22, 1732-Saturday, December 14, 1799) and Thomas Jefferson (Saturday, April 13, 1743-Tuesday, July 4, 1826) at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.

Love this place. Too old for the long days of walking there now. If you go: be sure to see the places you pay to see, before seeing free places. Must see is Palace and Capital. Not a lot for young kids. Need a love of history and or beautiful buildings. If you can work in rt5 as a route from around Richmond to the city. Years of eating at all the places offered only to find Cracker Barrel was the best. Do not keep your eyes on the host, look at the beauty of the buildings.

I live nearby in Yorktown, Virginia. I have been saying for many years it would cool if P. Allen Smith did a show about our really nice October 19th Yorktown Day Parade. However, it is canceled in 2020. Maybe the show can visit us and tape an episode.

I would recommend staying at Colonies at Williamsburg. It is a lovely property. We stayed there in 2019. A warning though! Please do not get snagged by the Concierge. She or he will offer you tickets to Old Williamsburg for just 90 minutes of your time. We fell for it. We were lied to by our sales agent Jackie, convinced to buy and now we our out $45K, all of our savings. My husband is a 100% service connected Vietnam Vet. I have been contacting the CEO's of VV for months with no response. Enjoy the property but go through Airbnb or some other rental and DO NOT BUY!!

I just watched the episode that included a tour of a recreation of an 18th century Williamsburg garden. The woman stated that wealthy people of that time viewed these gardens as a status symbol and that the gardens were maintained by "professional gardeners". I would expect to be able to watch a PBS show that presents history accurately, all of the time. Those "professional gardeners" were slaves not paid employees. I am disappointed that the program decided to leave that bit of whitewashing in the show. Please get comfortable with our history and tell the truth always. Thank you.

Hi, Josh I'm impressed you know your history that's cool but, I'm not a history buff no it doesn't matter whether slavery began in the fourteen hundreds or seventeen hundreds no other nationality have been used and abused like black people.
