I absolutely agree with dragonflei on the quality of your reading compared to the professionally done audiobooks. I listened to all of the Discworld books, and I wouldn't say they aren't good, but your rendition is heartfelt and jolly and candid and I'm enjoying it all around! Do catch up on your sleep though, take a few more days off if you need to, no need to sacrifice your health for this! We'll all be here when you're back ❤
I especially like the parts where Susan is struggling with her dichotomous nature and her general badassness. Good for you on healthy boundaries! Wish I could have been a fly on the wall when you warmed up the dance floor, go Mr S!! Thanks for Blake's cameo, it was great to see you guys together and so happy!
I love that concept of the difference between nice and kind. I used to say that I am nice, but I'm not easy. ROFL! Wanting to do everything for everyone can really wear you out. I used to vastly over-commit myself, especially this time of year. The local charities knew I was a pushover for any social cause and would always get me to plan events for them. It was only once I got really ill that I had to learn how to say "No!." But I also learned from a friend who said that I was "stealing mitzvas" by taking on too much and more than my share of the good works that needed doing. I learned to teach people how to get it done, rather than taking it on myself, and that has served everybody better.
I really feel like supporting you on your work in understanding the difference between nice and kind and not being too linient at work. It's really important! Keep it up, Mr. S. Curiously, Granny Weatherwax is notoriously famous for the distinction - good ain't nice - in one of the earlier books.. I think perhaps Carpe Jugulum or the Masquerade, can't remember now. 😂
Finally all caught up! What is it about the Mr S family lads and their barnets?! 😂 Don't forget to also be kind to yourself, not just others 😊 A brief comment about pantomimes ... I have been an Usher at Wimbledon Theatre (I would love to work their again but on 2 crutches with stairs and slopes all over the place!) But a play is much more watch with minimal interaction whereas a pantomime has a very large amount of audience participation woven into it. Plays will have a variety of studiousness whereas pantomimes will be overloaded with slapstick humour and whilst primarily created for children there will be a hint of adult jokes thrown in the mix because they know that parents / adults have to attend with the children! I'm sure Mr S will be confirm the "it's behind you!" regards the villain of the pantomime and the "oh no it isn't" " oh yes it is"
Well done for encouraging the newbies Mr S. it can be hard to get out on that dance floor when it's empty. Did not get to the carol service, not feeling great to day.
Ah, the “kind vs nice” dilemma! We have a saying here in the States: “Midwest Nice”. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life and, to me, it means people pleasing without boundaries, which isn’t healthy, really, for anyone. I don’t think a lot of people even think about the distinction between “nice” and “kind” although i do think that’s changing. Also, kudos to Blake for being a good sport and saying hi to us! (Your hair looked fine 😉)
being kind is powerful in a way that being nice is not. i think. but also i would like to be able to do the full Death Voice thing. also Death Face. 💀💀💀 both just when needed, though! be careful what you wish for, right? i do NOT really want to be conscripted into being everyone’s cruise director across the Styx for eternity, or what have you.

One of the things I love about your reading is that it feels like someone is in the same room reading to me.

I hope you are felling better soon, Mary!
@@trucelt01 Many thanks, feeling a bit better today.
