This was a wonderful video, thank you! I took part in this form of therapy when I was an adolescent and now I'm interested in becoming a practitioner.

Oh that is wonderful to hear. And thanks for your comments. I love to learn of those who've been inspired by their own healing. Good luck to you.

Excellent introduction - thank you, Patricia! I love the idea of connecting to the unconscious in such a (seemingly) "simple" way!

Thank you, Patricia. This is one of the best videos I have seen on sandplay therapy as you truly capture it's healing power and the true sacredness of this wonderful work.

Thank You Patricia. I am sandplay therapeut from Latvia. This is the best video about sandplay what I have seen. Very short, clear and harmful way how to talk about quite complicate things. I think, it is yours nice personality. Thank You! (and sory about my english)

Hello Patricia, I believe very much in the power of play therapy but one thing that confuses me/interests me is the use of ad-hock explanations for observed behaviours or situations created within the sand tray. How do you know where to draw the line between over analysis and insight? experience? education? or relationship (with the client)?

I love Sand therapy. Thank you for explaining and demonstrating it! What a perfect method to release inner thoughts to the concrete, and become so much more self aware and acceptance of self...and your creativity.
I love your tender voice too and the music playing the background; serene healing. Thanks

Your video was so relaxing to watch (and informative). I wish you'd do more. I love your voice, the way you describe things, and the back ground music.

Thank you Fiona. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I created it with my son (the photographer) to simply inform those interested in Sandplay Therapy. I got permission to use the music from the artists. I love that song, too. I am happy you were touched by the work.

    Thanks Kesley,
Websites are listed at the end of the video. I can't put them in this message.
    Hope that helps,

I liked it too. I'm a psychology brasilian student of the 5th semester of regular graduation. I met sandplay in my classes of child psychotherapy, and I'm excited to know more about it. If you can, give me a web site about it.
    Thank You very much!! ^_^

    Great video
...I have one question: How do you know what all those items symbolize within the tray.....if the child is to young to express or even understand what they mean?

Hi Jason, Sorry to be so long in responding to this. Symbols have been studied for a very long time. Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell did extensive study of symbols throughout the world and across history. There are different levels of meaning in a symbol, from universal, to cultural, to familial, to personal. As therapists, we try to learn as much as we can about a symbol and then we always listen to what each client has to say about what it means to them, personally. But most importantly, in Sandplay Therapy is that the process is healing whether we know what the symbol means or not. Hope that helps. For more information, read: "Images of the Self" by Estelle Weinrib and/or "Hero with a Thousand Faces," by Joseph Campbell.

Great introduction! I am in my second year of working with children and families, so I appreciate this guidance. I love how intuitive this therapy is, how natural. I believe those are best! I am currently pursuing my L. I just bought the "squishy sand" which does not dry out or make a mess, have you seen that? Do you work with it as well? I love your idea of the dry and wet tables as well. Thanks for your guidance in creating this video! : )

How do you norm the tray differences with kids? Does it matter if they try to transfer wet to dry or vice versa? Also, I have a personal aversion to sand (I think it's a sensory thing) but the kids really enjoy it so I've tried other methods. Moon Sand is good but after seeing your video, I think it'd be good to have regular sand and wet sand so there are options.
    Thanks for posting this!

I would love to do this. I feel there's an inner child in me that wants to express himself and tear down walls etc. I used to play with toys until I was 12 I was attacked and I became angry, inner and lost my capacity to play
