This is a great example of excellent teaching. Bravo! A really superb job! It's hard to imagine how teaching this kind of thing could be done any better.
Logic has been my main DAW for 14 years. I just discovered you and your channel. You have re-inspired me with your knowledge and your way of presenting each topic. I’m so grateful to you.
Only started watching your videos a few days ago, have watched about a dozen by now and have already learned SO MUCH! Thanks for sharing your knowledge in such a clear and concise way.
Thanks Cobby. I've launched a new channel, so if you want more tutorials, come and find me here: th-cam.com/channels/-RFQtqWAG6kFPRkumqn7rA.html Cheers, Jono
Many thanks Richard. Kind words. I've launched my own channel, so if you're looking for more Logic Pro X content, do come and find me there: th-cam.com/channels/-RFQtqWAG6kFPRkumqn7rA.html Cheers, Jono
Hi Jono, over the years, I have tried to learn about Logic and mainly the production techniques, including mixing and mastering. Honestly speaking - I am not putting any other TH-cam instructors down - but you are the best teacher, hands down. Your technique, voice, and simply the way you explain and relate the process to the project are so great. Every single video just feels so easy and relatable - completing each video just energized me, knowing my brain could capture the entire process. I am indebted to you. Although in this video, you refrained from explaining the Mastering process as it is a completely different process - this one can be called the light edition. I would like videos about vocal production and plugin chain, Logic Drum/EZDrummer/Addictive Drums track creation, plugin chain, and mixing with Bass and Strings. I hope you will listen to my request. Thank you again for making me understand the arrangements and producing with Logic.
Absolutely superb, world-class presentation presentation Jono! - I wish I'd had someone to guide me in these essential principles at least twenty years ago. THANK YOU!
It's great to know we can play with Mastering ourselves , then after knowing it's in a good ballpark ..to switch them off, mixdown and send to a professional.Thanks.
again brilliant video, these tutorials are literally the best thing on the internet! I really like how this one is all about 'mastering', i would really appreciate a mixing one, i know that's quite a big topic, but if someone if going to be able to tackle such a difficult topic it will be you guys!
I haven't found anyone as good as MusicTechHelpGuy. Now I have. I still think Jono is more for intermediate producers though. Great teaching style. More like an AP class.
Thank you. I've launched my own channel, so if you're looking for more Logic Pro X content, there are new videos every week: th-cam.com/channels/-RFQtqWAG6kFPRkumqn7rA.html Cheers, Jono
Jono! What a fabulous piece of tuition! Again I had no idea all this was available within logic? So cool and man I have so much to learn and just this about the output channel was fantastic. Thank you yet again for your clear and precise explanation.
This is a really helpful tutorial. The one idea that I would introduce here, in addition to the above discussion about compressors, is that either/or the Vintage VCA (or any other compressor for that matter) and the Multi Band compressor is not the only option. Both compressors in sequence can be a really useful choice as well. Simply dial back either or both and you can get a nicely glued mix with a bit different flavor.
It’s great. While i sort-of know what a lot of these things in logic do, i can’t say that i really understand their capabilities until jono does a video on them. Brilliant as always.
I wonder if it’s possible to monitor my mixes via Bluetooth over to my iPhone, where the iPhone earbuds seem to be much more honest than any studio monitors?
Hearing this track now on my Event monitors in my studio, it sounds very bright for starters, not the way I'd prefer a song to sound. Overall the demonstration is effective.
So useful, Joni. Thank you! I think I recognise your controller units as the same as Christian Henson uses with his setup. Can you tell me what they are plz?
I've come back to this video many times now and love it - really helping my mixing. My only question is why -0.1db on the adaptive limiter? Isn't that a bit too high for the stereo out, or is that about normal?
At about 8:56 you mention that the attack time is the speed at which the compressor reacts to the signal exceeding the threshold and later that the release is the amount of time it reacts. I might be missing something here but isn't that the same thing? Did you mean to say that the release is how long it maintains the compression after the threshold is exceeded? Or does a compressor's release section of its envelope behave differently from standard envelopes?
I will be returning to this video often - thank Jono!! -- I'd love to see a video where Jono addresses compositions that are more orchestral/hybrid - his masterclass at Guildhall was amazing!
This is a great example of excellent teaching. Bravo! A really superb job! It's hard to imagine how teaching this kind of thing could be done any better.
You're very welcome!
