  • In Today’s video, we are sharing what we are doing differently in the airstream to stay warm, prevent moisture, keep insulation, why we don’t shower in the airstream, and how we prepare for the winter now compared to last year.

    Great tips! Thanks. Keep your propane tanks Full... In really cold weather you won't get full use of the tanks. I added a propane tank heating pad that allows full use of tank by keeping the tank warm. Since you have shore power the heating pad works great!

    FYI, the Airstream Basecamp models are the only Airstream to have 12v tank heaters. I'd double check your specific model, but I was told that all Basecamps have them. That means that if you can get water, you don't need to worry about anti-freeze or dry camping so long as you have shore power. Most people don't seem to know that and I've seen A LOT of BC owners stress about their plumbing and empty their tanks even when on shore power. I'd also call to check what they're rated for, but I'd imagine they should be good upto the low 20's high 10's.

      we know. its not the tanks we're worried about. Like we said, the outside freezes and we're unable to empty out tanks.

    Great video. We camped in Denmark my whole childhood but mostly in the summertime, so it’s great watching your video and ideas for winter camping ❤

    great video. have you guys had freezing issues while running water in your tanks or are you just extra cautious? I'm in a 16 and boondock at ski resorts probably 40 nights a year and I've never issues, but am considering switching to a 20 and would want to make sure i'm not giving up capability.

      We have not had issue with freezing within our tanks/lines, but we don’t camp like that anymore because we were having issues with the dump valve freezing.

      We aren’t always able to have hookups in the winter. Since the tank heaters and suck up battery power pretty quick we prefer to keep tanks empty.

    So airstream requires winterization?

    • @TayAndBrock
      @TayAndBrock  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are hooked up to power, no. You can use the tank heaters and propane keeps your pipes warm. But we don’t always have hookups to we dry camp

    Are both air conditioners and electric heaters available? Can I stay warm with just an electric heater?

    • @BuildYourTribePodcast
      @BuildYourTribePodcast ปีที่แล้ว

      The built-in overhead AC is electric (requires shore power) and, as we said, is very dry, but warm! If you purchased your own personal heater, that would work as long as you have shore power!

      @@BuildYourTribePodcast Can I stay at minus 20 degrees Celsius with electric heating?

      @성이름-f9f5j ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuildYourTribePodcast Do you think the airstream is similar compared to the extended trailer and insulation performance? Airstream is aluminum with high thermal conductivity, so I don't think the insulation performance will be good.

    • @TayAndBrock
      @TayAndBrock  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@성이름-f9f5j I don't think so, we've found at that temperature that the electric heating can't get quite warm and blows cold air.
