    I grew up on a Kawasaki X2 from back in the day when a "jetski" was a challenge to ride. Unlike the small boats they call " Jet skis" in more recent years. Glad to see they are bringing back real jet skis again where it actually takes skill and coordination to ride the thing..

    5:00 tether engine cut-off lanyard … I used to ride these when the steering was spring loaded to full left and there was no idiot lanyard … the motor would idle and the ski would circle around … you'd swim to intersect the circle … it was quick and safer than a disabled ski with the engine off and needing to fumble around and try to get the lanyard reconnected … just grab the throttle and let the ski pull you out of the water and get going before the next wave … also, back then, skis weighted "nothing" and didn't carry momentum … not like PWC 'ride on boats' today.

    • @RyanMcIntyre
      @RyanMcIntyre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those were only useful if you kept the stock bars, which nearly nobody did. Manufacturers figured out the idle-around led to more issues than it prevented. Lanyards area also pretty typical safeties in nearly every motorsport where the operator can become separated from the craft. If you're into motorsports and not just a weekend poser, it's second nature and seems obvious honestly.

Id say that theres a learning curve but not that much of one. 9/10 of my friends struggle a little when learning... For the most part. They've all found it very easy! The older Js kawasaki's are only 24 inches wide. Try that on for size! lol. Again' Great Video!

    I grew up on sit down pwcs.. We have a couple vintage pwcs, and a couple modern as well. Not gunna lie they do get a tad boring after awhile. My entire life I’ve always dreamed of riding a stand up ever since the video game wave race on Nintendo 64 came out but seeing people look like goofs crashing it every 30 feet trying to learn has always turned me off. Seeing you, a bigger guy get on and ride with ease having a blast has made me confident to wanna get a superjet. I too am a bigger guy (I hide my weight well as I’m heavy but don’t look it) They do look like they are larger and more stable then the old stand ups which helps a lot. I think you sold me on getting one!

      @@LukeBuzzardnot all skis will circle back. They have to be designed to.
      Tether is still the only way to go even with a ski that will circle. Not all instances of ending up in the water is as simple as someone just falling off. If your actually in an accident or hit something that damages the handlebars or throttle control, the ski can be stuck full open. The throttle cable can also get stuck without being in an accident. Rider can also be knocked unconscious and you don’t want the ski to circle around and over someone in the water. The bars can also get locked in a position and not just lean left or right so it may not even circle anyway, it can just idle further and further away from the person in the water.
      Just wear the tether and swim to the ski.

    OM f'ing G... I just had to respond to this. Can a fat guy ride a stand up Jet Ski 🤔. I'm 6'4", and at the time (1985 in Jamaica on our honeymoon weighed 280). I never managed to get up on the thing, as every time I gave it some throttle and began to pull myself forward to try and kneel then stand, the water jet would blow my trunks off. I'd let go, the machine would idle back in a circle as I swam frantically for my sinking trucks and my white backside exposed for all to see on shore and near me on other watercraft. Certainly was my John Candy "The Great Outdoors" moment. This happened about half a dozen times before they brought out from shore a machine that had a fitted plastic oversized hull that would allow a "FAT GUY" ride... Good times 🤙

    • @timewa851
      @timewa851 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Austin You use your knees & read the water on a jet ski, & the waves are for jumping, if they are large enough. Wake boats can toss a 550
      ten feet + in the air. And you don't ride for three hours. The tank holds 3.3 gallons.
      If you can ride that tank near dry, it's one hour & ten minutes. And you are tired, even with excellent technique. The sit down just hurts your butt. You know this.
      And the calm water is for carving slalom. Which you get to do after three seasons of practice. Jet skis weigh 240lbs.

    You can definitely tell who has grown up riding one vs what we’re seeing in this video respectfully! Start off like your on a boogie board and then pull your self up with your arms and then use your legs to stand up that why they call it a “stand up jet ski” let your legs and balls hang off the back to start almost like getting a BH back in HS then work your way up to the stand once you gain speed and control. What you did and showed is the wrong way to learn and show others how to ride respectfully!
