How fun to watch you find that ZZ Top like that. Your excitement was very noticeable. Gotta love that, and cheap as hell. Love these store focused videos!
Thanks so much for the comment, Dom and for going back and watching this one. Yeah, I love a great well deserved minty grail, but I really live for the cheap beat find! It takes back back to digging records in the 90s. Hey, you know Jeff Lewis? Might not be your jam but I have a hunch this will take you back: th-cam.com/video/3urXygZXb74/w-d-xo.html
@@tokyorecordstyle Yes I do know Jeffrey Lewis (famed cover artist of the Fall and Crass) but that one I don't think I ever listened to. I shall! He definitely is a jokester and very much takes the piss out of record collectors. The track I most get a kick out of is "Have a Baby" from Manhattan. Amazing lyrics
I didn't know "Have a Baby" or this "and the Bolts" band/album. Hilarious! Love this "That's important to me ...until I throw that bullshit out and have a baby." th-cam.com/video/YDqzwoqCRXw/w-d-xo.html
I really love this song and the whole album off which it comes: th-cam.com/video/IMkJw2txsww/w-d-xo.html ...which also has the "We don't want no LSD tonight" song on it.
I recently stumbled across your channel. Interesting to see NishiOgi and to see a new record store there (many years ago I used to work not far from there.) I really enjoyed your past videos, plus the website, the photos & your tales about the collectors. I always find what inspires other people in their choices fascinating. As I've gotten older my taste has changed and broadened considerably, I still love my rock - including most obscure subgenres I enjoyed as a young thing but I've probably embraced a lot more mainstream stuff that I turned my nose up to when younger. So as well as rediscovering lots of classics & underappreciated albums, I've also dug down deep into jazz and it's offshoots and into classical music. There's definitely room for everything ...and there's always room for Herb Alpert in everyone's collection.
Hi there @ellye3400! Thank you for that long and thoughtful comment and for all the encouraging words about the photos, website, and so on! I really appreciate you digging a little deeper! Agree with your sentiments and tastes changing over time. For me, I think I always loved the mainstream and it's only as I get older that I get into new stuff. I find these days, through doing these projects, that I really can appreciate a new music when it connects me to another person. I'm getting as much enjoyment from a record that *I* really like and matches my tastes as I am from listening to a record that DOESN'T really match my personal tastes but know that somebody ELSE really appreciates it. I try to understand what THEY might appreciate, and enjoy, and it somehow bonds me to them, while expanding my musical horizons at the same time. It's really a blessing! One more thing. Did I throw Herb Alpert under the bus while talking about the cheap bins? I wouldn't put it past me to say something like that. If I did, you are totally right, and I'll eat my words and take it back if you'll let me. Sorry Herb Albert! No shame in being so popular that your records can be found everywhere, and in my collection too! Best from Tokyo!
James Gang from Cleveland! Note to self! Joe Walsh from Wichita! I got it! I figured out who I was thinking: Gap Band. I think the 2-word, half rhyme band is was confused me. But I learned something in my mistake!
@Mfidelity So True! Too many to even think of. In fact, I bet there is a record shop at every, or nearly every stop along the line! That would be a good little research project. Maybe I will sink my teeth into that at some point! Thanks for the comment!
You and me both! Hey there @robbie_eee ! Thanks for dropping by the channel! You know I didn't event check the price of that Ramones record. I have only ever really known Rocket to Russia, which I have, and I know they have a fairly sizable discography. I should use it as a chance to dig in a little deeper! Thanks for the comment!
@@tokyorecordstyle I have a friend who visits Japan somewhat regularly, (he has a shop, Celebrated Summer Records, here in the states) he’s seen some of the early Japanese pressings of those Ramones records and even just a couple years ago they were selling for several hundred dollars, or I guess several thousand yen. Definitely pricey for sure.
@@tokyorecordstyle I was startled to see that Ramones debut with the “My Punk Generation” obi. Definitely a rare find. Have only seen it once before after decades of digging.
When I have time, I'm gonna go back and have a long slow dig! It's actually technically the closest record shop to my house, just 5 or 10 min away so easy to get to. Will report back if I score anything else!

I'm still working on it but hope to get through the whole list soon. Enjoying and appreciating the great recommendations. Will report back soon!
Do you see a lot of Journey albums in Tokyo? I know that I used to buy bootleg CDs from Tokyo back in the early nineties of Journey concerts that were really great. Journey played Japan a lot in their early years and even in recent years. I want to find some vinyl albums of these great recordings and I know that the Japanese people really loved the band Journey back in the 1970s and 1980s. It's cool to follow along and see these types of record stores in Japan! Thanks for the videos. Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Hey there Brian in Fort Worth! Thanks for watching the video and leaving a nice comment! Y'know, I don't really know too well about Journey's legacy in Japan or see their record that much. I love Journey of course, Steve Perry's had the voice of a generation, but having said that, they were also at their hugest just like 3-5 years before I was really plugged into music, I think. So I can't say earnestly that I have ever really taken a deep Journey dive and not sure I would recognize their albums even if I did see them. But I will get acquainted with them. If you send me the same message to my instagram or message me TokyoRecordStyle@gmail, I'll be happy to ping you if/when I ever see them! Best for now! P.S. My sister and fam are in Dallas and we often fly through on my way home to Tulsa. Might have to connect some day! Take care!
