    always love when a content creator doesn't edit out the parts they struggled with. If you're struggling to put something in, probably means most people are and they at least want to know that other people have the problem or hopefully how it got resolved.

    About 2 months ago I was searching for a way to extend internet to the shop. This was the first video I found and thought, "it doesn't look too difficult." Two weeks later when my items arrived, I struggled with the instructions, got frustrated attaching the transmitter and receiver to the buildings, and after it was all said and done, it didn't work. I troubleshooted it the next day and ordered a new router. Six weeks later, I unplugged all the connections, reset the units to factory settings and slowly walked myself through the process (while reading the directions) and hooked up the new router. IT WORKS! I made it much more difficult than it had to be and we now have working internet in the shop. Thank you so much for this video!!

      David M. I’m thinking of using the same system. I’m in East Texas. Internet is balls around here. I’m not close to the toad so I need to connect closer. How can I be sure the distance won’t change my speed?

    • @Retrical
      @Retrical 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Hockless In my own use, i’m only bridging about 200ft and it works well in that application. However, I highly recommend getting your own router and connecting it to the access point (wherever it is that you want internet access) after you set up the system. A prerequisite, as shown in the video, is that there is a good line of sight and the two modules are at or under 3 miles apart from each other. If your location satisfies this, i.e there is not trees or building that would block the connection and your connection is within 3 miles, this system should work just fine. Again though, the Tycon software that allows you to setup your own access point is trash, hence why i recommend instead buying a router of your choice to provide a wireless signal after you set up the bridge. In that case, you would have to ensure there is an established internet connection via connecting the ethernet of the receiving end of the bridge system to a device that could test the connection like a computer or game system. Once you know there is a connection, you simply plug in and set up your router as if you were setting up a regular one without the bridge. I went about 3 months without a router and I used the Tycon software to setup my own access point and it was horrible, so I highly recommend pairing the system with your own router to get a solid connection.

    Sorry for zombie posting on a older vid but that cable is not uv rated and will get chewed up by the sun. Since the jacket is not uv rated, eventually the jacket will turn to dust and your conductors will short and if you are running POE you may short the switch or the radio and cause damage. You need a CMX shielded cat 6 that is rated for direct burial that is UV shielded and it will last for a long long time. It will take years, but that cable won't last and cause potential issues and/or damage later on. Just search on amazon for "CMX Cat6 Solid Copper". DO NOT RUN POE OVER CCA (Copper Cladded Aluminum) use only solid copper core. Great video looking to start a homestead with the family really enjoying the channel!

    If your in-laws' house and the barn you're living in are sharing the same electrical system (which is typical), you could have used a pair of network powerline adapter. With these, you are using the existing electrical cables to carry any ethernet data. I don't mind dealing with wireless bridges but I tend to avoid using them. Personally, I like to use the spectrum for wireless devices only. Whatever else that can be wired should be, especially if they are really closed by. Keep up your excellent work!

      You are absolutely right!!!! I was one step away from spending megabucks! I already had a TP-link for my AT&T microcell (I live out in the sticks and need this for my cell phone to work) to connect up via my wireless router. I got to looking at it and it said these devices have a 300m range. I dragged it out to the barn, which as you say has common power lines to the house, hooked up my laptop to it and it worked just fine!!! Cleaner, with true plug and play connection. So all I need to do is get a TP-Link wifi range extender and I can actually work out in the barn using wifi, and don' t even need to hook up using a cat5 cable. Can buy those for $60 - $90 bucks depending upon the speeds you want. Just wanted to let folks know a bit more detail about this because it is definitely a money saver if your two buildings are powered with common lines.

    Your better off just buying a bulk box of cat6 or cat7 ethernet cable and running from the house to whatever building you want internet in. It's much more reliable and just add a second router if you want wifi connectivity. Otherwise just buy a switch and plug your network cable into it and then run individual cables from your switch to all your devices.

Spent day 1 just loading, registering, deleting one form of out of the box trial security to replace it with something far superior that my service provider uses to protect their equipment/services. I used that for 8 years previously with out any incidents on my older pc.

    Very slick.
    You missed one piece in your scenario with the exploding planet: when you upload a video, the router at your end sends data through the wire to your antenna back over to your in-law's antenna, through the wire to their router and out into the world. That is, both of the antennae send _and_ receive.

    There's only one thing I would do. You know when you were attaching the white boxes the the fence. I'd put them higher, up on the building for instance. RF doesn't like those fences, and it would be much stronger mounted on the building wall above the fence. That said you may have lots of signal with it mounted on the fence ? You've probably heard of "terrestrial" internet isp's ? Mine goes up to a 6000 ft mountain and antenna and comes down off the antenna to me on the other side ! Generally its much slower than yours.

  • @errtex

    I NEEDED THIS VIDEO!!!... BUT, I have a question. How much does this affect the broadband speeds to/from the source structure? If the source is 1Gmbs and I “bridge” to the guest house I have, literally just 16’ away, what would (an estimate, of course) the average speeds be for both structures?

    • @G1itch02
      @G1itch02 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, if your source is 1 Gbps, you won't get that kind of speed on the other side. According to their documentation, you will be able to achieve up to 100 Mbps which is still plenty for most cases. Still be able to stream up to 4k with no issues, downloads will be relatively quick, online gaming, etc.
      At your guest house, you probably will want to get a switch or an access point to distribute your network(internet). Be the easiest solution. You could use an old router if you want and turn it into an access point which was demostrated in the video.

    • @G1itch02
      @G1itch02 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And to add onto this as I didn't fully answer your question, there shouldn't be much impact on service quality at both locations depending on provider and of course how much usage the users are doing. So, of course, more devices accessing the internet or doing heavy downloads, you may see speeds slow down. That being said though, you will be fine for the most part I would say.

      G1itch02, sounds awesome, thank you! We’re in a rural area that just (.... and I mean just) had fiber installed and about to be switched on, Altice by Suddenlink being the provider. They told us it’d be better to just setup an account for each structure. At $175 a month that’s a bit too steep for any of us here, even at a whopping 1 gig of mbps! I was hoping for closer to around 200mbs for the guest house, but 100 is still a lot better than the 3mbs the old cable cable DSL provided. Thanks for the reply!!

      @@errtex if you want faster internet I suppose the only other option would be to burry an Ethernet cable and get a mesh WiFi system.

    The only piece missing: at the receiving end you didn't mention what port do you plug the ethernet cable into on the router - does it go into the WAN port or into one of the 4 LAN ports?

      A little late to reply but I may be able to assist. Are you still having issues?
      In the video, he had a router on the other side but that isn't always the best option. You could use a switch or purchase an access point which will serve what you need. You essentially need to turn your router into an access point.

    Should have gotten outdoor rated Ethernet and run two physical connections. Way more reliable, faster and cheaper. Could have buried it or run it above.

      Its less expensive AND more efficient to buy a camper as they are designed to be super efficient. This would allow you to more quickly be able to save for your land. Its still portable so you can move to your land eventually and live in it until you build your permanent home. Just a thought. Good luck. :-)

I am kind of curious from you or anybody else checking this video out what brought you to decide on this product over any other options.?

      You should run a cable from your wireless router provided by the ISP to your back yard/porch or whatever, and then hookup a cheap secondary wireless "router." However, for the secondary "router" you will want to configure as an Access Point, since it's a wireless access point, it may be referred to as a WAP setting. Every company calls it something different, so read your friendly manual :) For a better walk-through google, "How to configure router in Access Point Mode."

    Hi, great vid. Great humor and enjoyed vid. Just like to know,... is there a need to boost/level-up my internet speed from 300MBS to 1 Gig if I'm using wifi-extenders Netgear AC750 Dual-Band Range Extender, EX3700-100NAS from my main home to my detached-garage of 30-FT away? I'm a gamer and constant Smart TV Netflix in main house and outside garage unit will also be in constant internet use (Smart TVs and Cell phones). Thank you in advance :)

      You're right. Would have been much simpler. The heat and sun will ruin it in 2-3 years. Would have found a complete wireless system or buried the wire in small PVC.
