That vocal on Because was among the best cover of any Beatles song I have ever heard anywhere in my life.

Thanks for posting this. It was really cool to see him enjoying himself (that was a righteous moonwalk) and hearing a beautiful Beatles song and a Schoolhouse Rock (Bob Dorough) song from my childhood. Damn I wish he was still here bringing us more of his genius. Peace.

The fact that he nailed the vocal harmonies on 'Because' - one of my fave Beatles songs ever - is one of the reasons I adore Elliott. The man was a genius.

He was happy his own way. He probably suffered from depression to end up how he did, but sometimes you get to a point where depression isn't incompatible with happiness. I mean, all I want to say is... How cool is the fact that he knew how to moonwalk? The guy took the time to learn the actual steps.

depression doesn't mean you can't be happy a moment of your life, but I see what you're saying. Also, as he was a super passionate musician, you can assume the studio was his happy place.

I think that making his own music was one of the few things that made him "happy".

There were lots of things that made Elliot happy. He had a great sense of humor and could be a total goofball.
Do you know what made Elliot very UNhappy? That the majority of people who didn't know him personally were constantly labeling him as hopelessly, eternally depressed.
Of course, he felt down sometimes. Who doesn't? Like many creative artists Elliot enjoyed living in his imagination, and following his muse. He loved making music and performing. He did NOT enjoy the business of self promotion. And he grew increasingly uncomfortable with being worshiped and idolized. His discomfort could make social situations awkward. His behavior was often misinterpreted as melancholic and anti-social.
      To you, the reader,
If you love Elliot Smith or are a fan of his sublime music,
DO HIM A FAVOR; Stop promulgating the myths that he was rarely ever happy. Or that he was the eternally despondent Eeyore of AltPop.
THAT would have made Elliot very happy.

GameDuck he didn’t hate performing at all. He may have gotten sick of it and of doing promotional tours and interviews. But he showed a lot of genuine interest when he played his music. He talked about how excited he was to tour his upcoming album before he died.

He looks super stoked to be recording in Studio B at Capital. One of the most famous recording rooms in the world. Interesting to see the drums on a riser, and all the keys and piano taking up the small room. Anyone know why there are 3 or 4 vocal mics on him instead of just one mic at the end? Thanks in advance.Great video

G Money my guess is it makes it easier to record his voice multiple times and makes it more dense? That's just a guess though.

Elliott was playing along as it’s an old joke from the old Looney Tunes Bugs Bunny cartoons. “those endearing young charms” was the name of the song, if memory serves. The joke lies with the wrong note played by both of them as the correct note had dynamite under the key set by Daffy Duck or Yosemite Sam, can’t remember which now lol.
