Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" in my new home of Sarasota Florida.

Paint coach, thank you so so much for putting the time and effort in these videos on top of all the painting / teaching you do. You’ve helped transform me as an artist and you explain things in the most easy-to-understand way.

Hi Paint Coach!! I don’t know when you actually get the time to paint so much when you are also producing such excellent videos. You are a natural teacher and present yourself so humbly. No hiding what you do to correct mistakes, etc. This is what impresses me - besides your beautiful paintings! Keep up the good work. There are so many of us painters out here that truly appreciate you.

Your tutorials make so much sense to me. How to go about starting a painting. Where to find subjects to paint, how to find values. What to look for when something doesn't look right with a painting, and if so change it or start something new and go back to it at a later stage. I have bought your painting course and can't wait to really get going. Other stuff keeps taking up too much of my time. I need to plan my time better. Anyway, thank you for all your tips and suggestions

Thank you for your generosity in taking all the time to set up cameras and organize your videos. This information, your thought process, how you develop your compositions is really more important to me than brush techniques, color mixing, really all the rest. How an artist prepares and develops their ideas to paint is so important, thank you for sharing!

I stumbled upon a video of yours months ago while I was looking for painting tip videos. Since then I’ve been consistently watching you! You’re so easy to learn from - idk if it’s your voice or your paint style or your language, but I can *easily* interpret what you mean. Thank you for passing on your knowledge ♥️

I’m new to painting, art, craft etc… everything all at once, but you are so right, I made things and then wasn’t sure about what I created, so then over worked it, many times. The ones where I stopped at that point where I wasn’t happy and left it, came back weeks or even months later, that is when they turned out much better. I think whilst working on a piece our minds are running so fast, and without knowing it drains the ability and creativeness. A break works wonders 😊

I really enjoy watching your videos Christopher and hearing your advice on oil paintings. I have never actually tried oil painting myself, and I don't intend to start any time soon. It seems like a good thing to get into when I'm super old and basically dead.

I just wanna say thanks :3 Thanks SO MUCH. I've been watching art 🎨 vids to learn for 2 years now, and since I began looking at artists sharing their creative processes like "drawingwithWaffles" and Kasey Golden (Or Casey? Dunno) it's so amazing to see this same creative process explained directly to me. I've looked around a lot for classes online, both paid and in TH-cam and nothing ever got me 100%, they didn't explain what I wanted. Now there's so many channels, of course took me forever to find yours but it's like, it's as if i found EXACTLY what I was looking for. I've only watched a handful of videos now but i go omg THAT'S HOW, and I also get a lot of reassurance. I'm just really excited i found your (it seems many teachers are involved, which is cool too) channel :3
    Greetings from Mexico

That is a request: Do a PAINT TALK video with no talking, ok maybe just an intro... Please and thank you so much!

thanks for the effort in that videos paint coach. i’ve been painting oils for like 2 months and i am learning too much from you. unfortunately still struggling with my brush choices. while painting wet on wet my hard brush scrapes the under paint and makes the canvas colour visible. i will try the soft brushes soon

I love all your videos. Such great information. I am curious though, I paint with acrylic and have been learning for a year now. Everyone says oil paint takes a long time to dry, so when you are out there on the scene painting, how do you transport your work around when you are done for the session without ruining your work?

Hello painting coach, small chance you’ll see this but I have a question. What materials do you usually bring when you paint outside? I’ve always been so intimidated by the thought of painting outside because of all the materials I’d need to bring so if you answered this in a video or just a comment I’d greatly appreciate it :))
