Me too 70 here. Somtimes coming up with 4 dollars is hard. I need to be able to use dollar tree stuff and things in my pantry or home. Any ideas on what I could use instead of Nuvo drops?
I make my own gesso too but use baking soda instead which makes it a tiny bit coarse. I also add extra baking soda when I want to make it a bit thicker for using as a texture paste. Drops of reinker, food coloring, coffee or tea, and similar items can be added in place of plain water to give color to the gesso. Coffee grounds, glitter and other tiny elements can be added to add more interesting texture. Thank you for sharing!

Or use your paint/ink/ect with some water or vodka(because vodka evaporates later & is clear as well as non-toxic.. I used in food crafts so that's why i use it else where. Thanks for this I've used polyfilla instead of baby powder but not sure if thats an advantage. Seems about the same but may have some long term differences.
Thank you so much for this heads-up. I had a messed up canvas that I tried to fix, and only made it worse. I decided to scrape it and start over. I scraped it a little to much, and ended up scraping a bit too deep. So, I just scraped all of it off under the tap. Ended up with a screen that's not holding paint. I didn't expect it too, but tried it anyway. I happen to have everything on the list right here at home. So thanks again. I'm wondering how long I need to let it dry?

I am curious about this gesso but l really need a home make clear vanish, can you please guide me along? Thank you, have a lovely day.
Good Morning! You're welcome friend. I don't have a recipe for the clear varnish you are looking for, so sorry. I'm sure if you search it on YT you should be able to find a recipe for what you're looking for. Big Hugs!
@@shawcraft1 Thank you very much for replying. Your reply 2hrs ago is good morning. But now Singapore time is 11pm. Going to might night. Oh! Maybe the place you live is noon now. Hehe! All the best to you and good Luck every single days.💪💪💖💖
Can I use normal powder
I'm not sure what you mean by normal powder?
@@shawcraft1 like talcum powder
@@raiyanali7022 yes, you can use talcum
@@shawcraft1 thanks I have made my own gesso. You are so helping
Is that acrylic paint or oil paint? *for the white paint
Acrylic paint
Great video. It's simple and just what I wanted.
Great to hear! tfw
ty ty, I tried following a couple other recipes...but they were long boring and a tad confusing regards the products they use cos of the country they liv in and the brand names. Your recipe and stuff used was simple, easy and you have saved me $18 (what our cheapest version of gesso is in nz)
Oh wow! Yes, Gesso is not cheap to buy. I'm so glad this recipe was helpful for you. Please test it on your crafts before you dive right in, as it works differently on different kinds of mediums.
Did I hear you say somewhere that you make your own Mod Podge. If so would you share the recipe, please 😊
Hey Debby ... I just simply take children's school glue, mix half glue and half water and stir it up ... that's my home made mod podge ... so much cheaper!
To me School Glue works just as good as Mod Podge.
Is that same.as gel.medium for image.trasfer?
LaNuzaWorks, no
oh yes Mod Podge, now I remember, what is the difference in usage between Mod Podge and Gesso....I mixed them up.
May i please ask...which glue can be used. Binding glue or just any glue?
I used an off brand of Elmer's glue
@@shawcraft1 Thankful
That looks easy enough. How long will it store?🤗🌹 Ty.
I have stored it for up to 3 months before.
good morning thanks so much very creative and useful work i will try it and tell you
Thanks for this I've used polyfilla instead of baby powder but not sure if thats an advantage. Seems about the same but may have some long term differences.
Great video. Always love to save money!
thank you...with the coronavirus out there I dont go out so your recipe worked great for me
Thank you so much for this heads-up.
You are so welcome! I hope it turns out the way you want it. It usually dries fairly quickly. I'm impatient so I always take a hair dryer to mine lol (don't have a heat tool). I'd say 30 minutes or so to air dry
@@shawcraft1 Yeah... it's still a mess. I Gessoed first coat cracked pretty bad. Then gave them a second, but a bunch of vertical cracks all the way across the width, of the 10" X 20" canvas. I decided to just let it cure a few more days, while I get down to some serious varnishing. I let them back up a little, and need to get them done before I paint any thing else. I have 150 waiting to be done. then backing and hangers.I have them stacked up all over my studio. I know, bad girl... But I was having so much fun. I thought maybe 60-80... Nope... So many turned out so beautiful that I want to keep all for myself. It's like selling one of my kids, you know? Hard to let go. No one can love them like their mother. lol...
@@shawcraft1 i read in several places that for store bought gesso wait an hour depending on your climate but minimum of 30 mins is average.
Thanks for sharing
great gesso love it
Thanks so much 😊 tfw
