The thing with Dimash building up to that D8 is this. He is so musically talented and knowledgeable that he doesn't have to hit it. If he doesn't feel it, or even if nothing comes out at the time, or he goes off pitch and his vocal folds deny him, he quickly adjusts and reinterprets the section to his best. That is what makes his confidence so high. If the vocal Lamborghini doesn't start, he just drives the Porsche, or Bugatti, or whatever else will impress.
I've seen him do it time and time again and it's actually what I admire most about his artistry.

@@joeno-say5504 yeah he is not afraid to make mistakes because he is aware of when it's likely to happen and has a way around it because of his hard earned knowledge. I think it has to be admired when someone is that equip in their art.

Dear Nina, the part that you said was staccato wasn't. Dimash got tired of people saying he was lip synching so he started waving the mic back and forth to show he couldn't be and both times he did it you looked away from the video. You also said songs from the competition of Singer 2017. So you know, so far only SOS and Adagio are from Singer 2017, the others are shows or concert performances. This is from a festival after Singer & Hello was from 2018 Singer as a guest Ogni Pietra from his concert & Sinful Passion was with the band that the song belongs to.

    • @TheVeenmeister
      @TheVeenmeister 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

That is correct.. It was a trick with the microphone. Waving it in front of his mouth creates a sort of crescendo and decrescendo real quick. His volume and tone stays the same. Dimash is not only an amazing artist because of his voice. He also is a master with microphone technique.

The other thing is if they try to talk while the video is still playing there would be 2 things for the viewers to listen to so they might miss the video or what the reactor is saying. We want them to pause the video, especially since that helps deter the possibility of them having problems with copyright issues as if there are any issues there is a possibility of them getting copyright strikes and possibly even losing their channel if they get too many strikes in a certain amount of time. I agree with everything but one small thing. On the high part when he goes high then higher by halftone it's not staccato, he is using microphone technique but looks like each time he is doing it you turn your eyes away from the screen and don't see it.
Dimash is the first artist that I can't get bored of because with each of his new songs he surprises with something new. I am type of listener who easily gets bored of a bands cause of listening to all the time same techniques and stuff (i ofc have my favourite bands e.c.t but I always need something new in my listening repertoire to keep my day good) but with almost every of his song, my jaw drops at least a bit. Loved this reaction, always love watching people react to Dimash because he's blowing even the professionals away
There are two things i'll say tho: 9:36 isn't staccato, it's a mic technique he's using to stop people from thinking he's lip syncing. Second, the D8 here wasn't planned, his voice failed him and in stead of panicing or gibing up he decides to 1-up and do something truly ridiculous, as if the original plan wasn't awesome enough. That's what I think at least. He's so truly incredible it's unbelievable ♥

This isn't one of his concerts, it's a festival and he was headlining after his success in China, although he had been an established artist in Kazakhstan since his childhood. He sang 5 songs at this event. Oh and please watch the video as that wasn't staccato it was him shaking the mic. Yes his famous 5 second with vibrato D8, which perfectly aligned with the song 💝 look on his official TH-cam channel and watch his concerts, then you will see the true man. He is incredible ❤

Listening to Dimash always brightens my day .... I work a desk job and to carry me through the day I literally just search for Dimash on youtube and set it to auto-play and I am good to go :)
Much to my regret I missed the Dimash concert at the Barclay Center NY last December ..... but I'll not sit out the next time he performs in the US
Now that you have heard the D8 don't worry .... there are plenty *powerful* Dimash performances for you to still experience .... Here are a few recommendations for other performances worth a reaction:
    - Love is like a dream (personally I like the performance in which he is wearing a purple suit)
    - Know (new wave performance)
    - Daybreak (Bastau 2017) - You'll need to research the background for this song first, it makes it even more heartbreaking.
    - Confessa / Diva Dance (The Singer 2017)
    - All by Myself (The Singer 2017)
    - Love of tired Swans
    - Screaming (Dimash 'mainstream' original song)
Thank you for the reaction Nina

I do believe that he is an incredibly brave singer. It seems that he missed the whistle at the first attempt, when he was moving the mic, yet he set himself up and gave it another go. Although musically I don't feel this whistle does much for the song, it gave him notoriety which he needed to get his name out there. Everything else about this performance is truly beautiful. What I still struggle to comprehend is how he sustains this level of concentration, commitment and absolute attention to detail throughout a 3 hour concert. I've experienced it a few times and it has me scratching my head every time.

'Unforgettable Day' showcases Dimash's incredible vocal agility. But then, so do many of his other performances.
    It's awfully good.
So let's focus on that D8. Did you notice, Nina, that Dimash *failed?* Have another look. He tried to produce the note, waved the mic uselessly, reset himself and out came the D8. You are seeing several things in that moment: one, he really is fearless. He knows that note is iffy, but it didn't stop him from incorporating it into a live performance. And two, he doesn't break character at the point of failure. He soldiers on, so ably it's not terribly easy to even notice the failure.
Is the D8 singing? Or a gimmick?
It's a kind of whistle, for sure, but not one produced with his lips. It's coming from his throat. I'll hypothesize: it's *not* coming from his larynx. Instead, the larynx is relaxed, and he is compressing the top of his throat to a very tiny aperture, then passing air through it at a precise velocity. I think his D8 has more in common with blowing air over a bottle mouth than singing. I don't believe he has much control over its pitch or volume. Either he gets it, or there is silence.
Who cares if it's a gimmick? Not me. It's amazing that he can do it at all, let alone in a live performance. Dimash really does have superhuman control over the many muscles involved in singing - and not-singing, too.

    • @shrekswife2164
      @shrekswife2164 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

So many speculations from experts to ordinary folks around the silent mic waving before the D8.In the end only Dimash knows what he was trying to do and whether he succeeded or not. We can theorize all we want, it doesn't prove anything other than the fact that he challenges the boundaries rather than conform to normative expectations.

Thank you for another great analysis, Nina!!
I suggest "Daybreak" from his Bastau concert (he also performed it on Singer, but the Bastau performance is his best). Apart from the vocal amaziness, there is also a very powerful story behind this song, about a young kid who lost his parents in a car accident, so try to find a version with subtitles as well.
Also, one more performance of Dimash that is among his best, in my opinion, is the song "Autumn Strong", from his Singer performance. Like Daybreak, this song also has a very strong real life backstory about a chinese female singer's life. Search it on Gloria Wu's channel, she has done an excellent job compiling a prologue with the story and she has also provided subtitles. Dimash's performance is amazing, probably one of the most complex songs from the artistic point of view.

Thank you for your astute analysis of this performance! It is very emotional with the contrast between the joy of falling in love, and the anguish when things fall apart. If you watch the Bastau performance, it shows this contrast in an unexpected theatrical way.
If you want to continue with Dimash, there are wonderful ballads in his repertoire, where I forget to think about his vocal abilities and just listen to his voice and feel the emotion: Daididau and Daybreak (from Singer with backstories from Gloria Wu's channel) and from Bastau (even better performed), Makhabbat ber maghan (Give me love) from Bastau, Samaltau (with backstory from Michael Zech), Our love , Karatorgai (with backstories from Dimash InfoStation), Karagym-ai (with backstory from Luena Autumn), Kusni Korlan (with backstory from Michael Zech), Couldn't leave, If I never breathe again, I love only you, I miss you, My swan, Don't make me dream.

There are various other performances of this song online. In most of them, he does the whistle in the 7th octave directly after the trill run. If you notice in this particular performance, he attempted it but either his mike or his voice failed him. Did he panic or just move on as most humans would have? No! This guy doubles down, resets his voice and hits a sliding D7-D8 whistle tone with vibrato! This particular performance does not make my top ten Dimash performances (for various reasons including production value). But the D8 is my number one Dimash moment. Not only because of the note itself, but for the fact it is a mind-bogglingly perfect recovery from what would have thrown many performers off, and the fact that it still fit the rest of the song, AND the fact that he moved on like it was no big deal. WHEW! Sorry for the long winded post. I guess I had to get this off my chest. I feel much better now. ☺️

Oh my God! Oh my God! I remain silent in the face of Dimasha's unique talent, but remain silent in the face of the extremely competent, spontaneous and honest comments and reactions of the beautiful Nina. Not only is Nina a great singer and a beautiful woman, she also perfectly captures all the vocal, emotional and technical "nuances" we get as a gift in every performance of Dimasha. Bravo for Dimasha and bravo and thanks also Nina! I apologize for not having sufficient knowledge of English. Many regards from Croatia!

Hello Nina, loved your reaction! You’ve noticed that he really feels and enjoys this song, and it’s true, because he actually wrote this song. It’s a great song with beautiful lyrics, a song about how he fell in love at first sight and therefore it is an unforgettable day. Anyway, I am glad that you’re going through this journey with us, and can’t wait to see more of your reactions! Love is like a dream is definitely a must-see!

Dimash wrote the music to this song when he was in his late teens, however the lyrics were written by Oral Baisengir. The lyrics are in Kazakh, but in his concerts outside of Kazakhstan, he often points the microphone at the audience (as a cue for them to sing certain parts); and its amazing what a large fraction of the audience know the Kazakh lyrics.

No need to make it a competition. They are outstanding singers, and floor in particular has a lot in common with Dimash. Versatility, different tones of voice, different genres, big range, huge dramatic stage presence, etc.

I really like Floor and Simone but Dimash is on a whole nother level, and that's fine. I've always been a huge fan of Roy Khan, the former lead singer of Kamelot and when I first heard Dimash, I was blown away. In every aspect he's a better singer than Roy, but I love Roy's delivery and timbre. You can appreciate more than one singer really.

Authum strong is his most emotional. It has immense meaning and it's my fav. Love is like a dream should be after that song or after a couple more cuz it's his best work in musical totality to me. Range, breath control, dynamics, tone, flexibility, key changes, all that stuff we love but autumn strong is so good you will forget about all the technical stuff and be lost in the musicality and emotional.
