6 months ago I could barely form a G chord and now I can play songs like this with ease and I've honestly learned everything I know from your videos because your tutorials are so straightforward and easy to follow!
Nicholas Perry I think that no song is gonna be fun yet tbh until you feel at ease with the main chords. What I did was I practiced switching from chord to chord many many times until it gradually became muscle memory and I played various random strumming patterns. Then try some of his songs on his "Easy songs" playlist once you get more comfortable.
Justine Lockhart Thanks! I'll do that! I am currently using my sisters uke but she cant really teach me cause she is always busy with going to collage.
Everyone keeps forgetting to put down the bars of each cord in the chorus he plays A7 for 2 bars and then plays G for 3 at the end. Which isn’t accurate cause Tyler only does 1 bar on G yet he does it for 3
I bought a ukulele and 30 minutes later I had 2 songs down. now I'm going to open mics to play my ukulele and sing. thank you very much for these tutorials
+Myrthe - I got one today + it's been hard to keep it in tune, there's videos on TH-cam to play the note then tune it to which I've had to do a few times already, the strings are new so it'll take a little time but don't give up!!!
+hannah lee yeah same with me when I got my Uke it always went out of tune. I ended up buying better strings because the ones that come on it are the worst and the ones I bought will not go out of tune as easy
Nice lesson. If anybody wants to play with the Elvis version he sings the song in D, if you have a capo throw it on the second fret to match up with the Elvis recording.
How come everyone can play the ukulele so well and I'm here just failing miserably! Seriously thinking about giving up!! Uggg damn you ukulele! Also I do enjoy the videos, they give me some hope. Until I try doing the song.
I've had my uke for about a month and a half and i wanted to give up so bad two weeks ago because i couldn't get ANY strumming patterns down without messing up! Until i kind of realized i was a bit too robotic with my movements, try to just, feel the music and you'll totally get better! stick with it and you'll be able to play plenty of songs!
Been playing for 6 years now, Just stick to it! It took me a good two months before I was able to make any progress! You will get there! If my lazy ass self can get good than so can you! =)
DON'T GIVE UP! it's like learning to ride a bike, you won't get it in the first try, but you should practice. you can do it. don't give up. try songs that are easy like Someone to lava or, sorry by justin bieber (those songs only have 3 chords and super easy srtumming) i hope you can get it
I found that moving from Em to B7 was tough. So I realized that if I go from Em and move each finger up one string it sounds almost exactly like the B7 and is a lot easier to handle. Thought I'd put in two-cents to help anyone out there!
I love Twenty One Pilots and when Tyler sang "Can't Help Falling In Love" I immediately wanted to learn it! Thank you so much for having tutorials for songs I'm looking for such as this and La Vie En Rose!
Thankyou! As someone who knows nothing about music I used this tutorial to surprise my musical husband on our 10 year anniversary. I practiced in secret for like 6 months on our kids toy ukulele. It went awesome and now I have a real one. 😊😊😊
Hi! my dad is a huge fan of you, and he watches your videos all the time! He's been feeling a little down lately due to family issues And I wanted to cheer him up a bit. So I was wondering if, in your next video (or whenever you see this comment) you would possibly give my dad a shout out before you start another one of your amazing ukulele tutorials! If so, My dads name is Perry Masterson. Thank you, Have a great day and keep being awesome!
Hi Hailey, I've actually already filmed the next few lessons and I don't really get a chance to give a shout out in most of my videos... HOWEVER... I'm delighted to hear that he's having fun with the uke! I've had messages from several people over the years who've mentioned how playing the ukulele has got them through tough times or just put a smile on their face when things weren't going their way, and it's always great to hear. So thank you for sharing it with me. Please tell your dad to "keep on strumming" and that I love you both and wish you... DA BEST!!! :)))
This is so much easier than it looks! I just got my ukulele for my birthday about 5 days ago and have already played riptide and then this! Thanks so much for your awesome teaching!!
Does anyone have any tips on the chord changes? because it's hard for me to go from one chord to another as fast. Is the best way just to practice over and over again?
just hard work, it took me a while to go from a F to a G but repetition and catching your bad habits before u make them serious bad habbits helps, nothing to tip, just hard work sorry
I find that if you make one chord and then very slowly, without strumming, change to the next chord you can watch exactly where each finger needs to go. Once your aware of the journey they all take you can start doing it faster and faster and once you're a little more confident, add the strumming in :)
Thanks so much for all your tutorials. I never thought I'd be able to play a strummed instrument, but your way of teaching really makes it understandable and I pick up on the lessons so quickly with your help. Thank you for making the ukulele accessible and easier to tackle with your knowledge.

I've been trying to learn songs from youtube so the whole time I've played uke I've sat criss cross apple sauce. This was the first song i learnt to play on my ukelele from THIS actual tutorial. I learnt to play the song and my 4 year old daughter sang the lyrics and we performed it at my brothers wedding. Thank you so much #thankful4uke
Man when I first started ukulele in 2015, this was one of the first videos I watched. It’s been 6 years since I touched my uke but I’m so thankful this is still up so I can learn again :) (edit for typo)

Thank you so much! I just got a Ukulele and this the first song I learned, I also sang and played this song to my girlfriend and she absolutely loved it! Again I can't thank you enough man :D
I had the same problem when I first started, but I just kinda tried positioning my fingers in different ways so that my other fingers could reach the frets. Hope this helped, of course different things will work for different people.
ThePerksBeingZoey Mann That's so cool! I've already learnt Can't help falling in love by Elvis Presley (covered by Twenty Øne Piløts) and am learning their new song Heathens for suicide squad. I love my uke and feel like it was one of my best purchases in life, ever! Hope you learn a heap of songs it's a really fun and a reasonably easy instrument, once you get the hang of it. Sorry for this massive irrelevant paragraph of ramble but yea I got a bit excited. 👍
I'm up at midnight learning this. I love this song so much and you make it possible for me to learn it. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us.
Wow, I started learning ukulele a month ago and I've never been able to sing and play at the same time, it was just impossible. But somehow I learned this song in less than an hour and I am also able to sing at the same time, that's a miracle! I guess the way you teach music helped me out, so thank you very much for this tutorial!
*For everyone trying this on the ukulele for the first time* : this isn't exactly the easiest song to play you can play it of course but I'd recommend something easier like pumped up kicks or sweater weather?
Thanks for posting this! My girlfriend wants to learn to play instruments as a new hobby (specifically the ukulele) so I bought her a decent newbie Uke and I want to surprise her with it when she gets back from vacation along with a nice little serenade. I'm a bassist so it being so small is a definite challenge for me but I should have at least this song done in time for the start of the semester. Thanks for being so easy to understand and I'll be sure to point her your way in a couple weeks time!
Faith Lee idk why but I just thought of the p!atd Halloween song and now I'm just thinking "EVERYBODY SCREeEeEN" ik it's scream but that's how trashy I am :')
(3:53) hay una nota en el coro que está equivocada... en lugar de F debería ser un D menor theres one note wrong in the chorus... the right note is D minor instead of F
For this particular song you should strum hard and loud for the first 'down strum', then slowly and softy go 'down-up' two times- that way it sounds just like the song by TOP
My name is Layne, I'm 17 and from Windsor, ON. I know you didn't ask to include a story in your live stream but you and the uke have done so much for me I'd like to share why I am #Thankful4Uke. I've always been a music and a football guy, just never had the patience to learn anything myself mainly because football was my drive, my passion in life. Music has been my way to live since I can remember, whether I was sad, getting ready for a game, walking the halls at school i always have to have music playing. I bought my first soprano ukulele the day after SuperBowl two years ago when I won some money. Nothing special just a $60 Denver that I still dable with here and there. I let it lay around and collect dust the whole first year I had it because it just seemed like too much work to learn. It wasn't until I was in grade 11 I learned to play Can't Help Falling In love With You and it just grew from there, I couldn't stop, even bought myself a kala concert down the way and football was taking off as well, offers from top division schools, going to football combines I was set on a golden path for success. I had sustained some pretty bad physical injuries during this time but was still pushing for more. It wasn't until I went to my top players of Canada combine in August of this year when I took a bad hit to my left knee and got sent to the hospital where they told me nothing was broken but my knee was torn. So naturally I compensated with my right knee which was already injured previously and continued to get worse the more I compensated until it got to the point I can no longer stand up without struggling, walking is a challenge on good days still but one foot in front of the other is what my grandpa always tells me. Naturally I sunk into a depression and was just lost in life, everything I had planned and worked for got taken from me, the scholarships, the sport, my movement, then I started feeling suicidal, didn't want to deal with it anymore and I'd by lying if I said there weren't bad days but honestly almost every single day when I'd start thinking too much about it all and feel sad I'd pick up my uke, sit inside or outside and just play anything or I knew or stuff I made up because it calmed me down, distracted me even and allowed me to make the thing I love, music, when a new lesson would drop I'd go learn, if I liked the song of course ;), and even though I'm still making amends with everything but I can honestly say uke helped save my life. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything from you or anyone here at all. I just wanted to let YOU, the Ukulele Teacher, know why I am thankful for picking up that ukulele. You and the ukulele helped saved me and for that I am thankful
This is one of the first songs I learned on the ukulele. Did a cover but a different version. Decided to put a video up to get out of my bubble lol Thank you TheUkuleleTeacher for teaching me your ways 😊
if you cant get your B7 to sound right you can try B (2nd fret 1st and second string and third fret third string, 4th fret 4th string in case you don't know how to do that) i couldn't get it to work either but i went to this site : www.ukuleletricks.com/improve-barre_chords_on_ukulele/ its one of the first links that come up if you google "why does my b7 not sound right. ukulele. i hope this helped anyone who is struggling because it did help me :) oh and great tutorial keep it up :) i know i'm late but ah well
thank you very much, ive been having nightmares with playing the chorus part with tabs i found online (i tried 2 or 3 different types) and couldnt figure out how to play it for like a month or so and this tutorial helped me A LOT
Hana Wilson well, I play other instruments so i have a basic understanding of music, but ukelele is the first string instrument I'm learning... dedication child
Hana Wilson well, I play other instruments so i have a basic understanding of music, but ukelele is the first string instrument I'm learning... dedication child
While the chords are easy to play, I'm having a hard time strumming. Its a simple down, down-up, down-up repeat but when I play it , I end up strumming down-down, up, up down up. I feel like it sounds better but OMG my hands are doing a whole other strumming pattern/
my ukulele sounds nothing like yours during the strum pattern I swear I'm trying the keep the same rythem and everything but i can't!!! I just started playing like 3 days ago but this sucks man and there aren't anyone giving lessons where I live
i know this sounds cheesy, but practice... slow way own at first then gradually speed up. and dont forget to practice changing chords while strumming too. the hardest part for me was singing and strumming at the same time, but i eventually got it. good luck.
LaySong TV I wondered the same thing when I began. My fingers would always get caught on the strings and up strums were impossible. But after practicing pretty much every day(you get to the point where you just want to sit and play) until pretty soon I could strum pretty well. I gradually sped up and now here I am. Learn a strumming pattern and stick to it. Then add words and slowly you'll be able to sing and play. Hopefully this will give you encouragement and help. Good luck😌
LaySong TV Make your hand like this emoji - - > 👌 but instead of your fingers being up close them into your hand (easiest way for me and I have short fingernails)
Thanks for this video. For 3 straight days i can now play this song with my ukelele. If you keep on practicing you can memorized the chords and the strumming also
you can also play b7 by pressing the 4th fret g string, 3rd fret c string, 2nd fret e string and open 'a' string. Its basically e minor, but like you just shift your fingers a bit. I find it easier to play with that.
I know I'm not doing it right but hey at least you get the sound. Use your first finger to hold both the first and second string on the second fret, then place your second finger on 3rd fret of the 3rd string, and finally creep your thumb over onto the second fret of the 4th string. This works for me at least :/

I guess the way you teach music helped me out, so thank you very much for this tutorial!
IDK Y BUT I LOVE THIS MAN HE'S SO CUTE
You should make a tutorial for "drops of Jupiter " by Train
YESS
Thanks so much for this video I now know how to play this song along with a lot of the cords for a ukulele. Keep up the amazing work.
I wish there was a double thumb up for your video: one for the amazing tutorial, and one for the Elvis uke. Great!
Can you please do a tutorial on screen by twenty one pilots I've seen a lot of people asking for it
*For everyone trying this on the ukulele for the first time* : this isn't exactly the easiest song to play you can play it of course but I'd recommend something easier like pumped up kicks or sweater weather?
•Mishal• oooo thanks lol
twenty one pilots- Holding Onto You
I'm from Argentina and all your videos help me so much!
Thanks for being so easy to understand and I'll be sure to point her your way in a couple weeks time!
going from em to b7 is a real challenge ahhh
I can dig Elvis :')

(3:53) hay una nota en el coro que está equivocada... en lugar de F debería ser un D menor
theres one note wrong in the chorus... the right note is D minor instead of F
I love you.

Please do screen by twenty one pilots
I got the chords but I suck at the strumming pattern, any tips?
Franco Arboleda keep practicing the strumming don't play any notes play all open strings and do the strumming
Franco Arboleda I personally always learn the strumming first before playin. Cords
jaciline lee thanks for the tips!
For this particular song you should strum hard and loud for the first 'down strum', then slowly and softy go 'down-up' two times- that way it sounds just like the song by TOP
Same
My name is Layne, I'm 17 and from Windsor, ON.
Decided to put a video up to get out of my bubble lol
Thank you TheUkuleleTeacher for teaching me your ways 😊

I don't know why but "an Ukulele" sound wrong
if you cant get your B7 to sound right you can try B (2nd fret 1st and second string and third fret third string, 4th fret 4th string in case you don't know how to do that)
i couldn't get it to work either but i went to this site : www.ukuleletricks.com/improve-barre_chords_on_ukulele/ its one of the first links that come up if you google "why does my b7 not sound right. ukulele.
i hope this helped anyone who is struggling because it did help me :)

Hana Wilson well, I play other instruments so i have a basic understanding of music, but ukelele is the first string instrument I'm learning... dedication child
how long did this take you to learn??
Kayla Bond Play it 2 hours, learn it and play it right, a couple of days
I just started ukulele two days ago and I already know 4 songs!!! Thank you so much ukulele teacher!!!!
I think I love you. Thank you for all the tøp tutorials! I'll buy a ukelele soon and these videos just make me feel more excited
While the chords are easy to play, I'm having a hard time strumming. Its a simple down, down-up, down-up repeat but when I play it , I end up strumming down-down, up, up down up. I feel like it sounds better but OMG my hands are doing a whole other strumming pattern/
Lmao same, but you will get used to it
More twenty one pilots!
Any in particular? :)
Screen, pretty please:) By the way, I just bought a ukulele and your videos are helping a lot. Keep up the good work, dude!
Nic0lettte Yes screen! I would love to sing that at my school its so awesome!!
You should do oh miss believer :-)
go to ukutabs.com and type in oh miss believer. That's how I learned it. ( very simple good for beginners)
really beautiful and perfect play! this tune can't be any better on any other musical instrument!
I love you thank you. And youve made me much less self conscious about singing. Youre such a blessing. Be blessed!
my ukulele sounds nothing like yours during the strum pattern I swear I'm trying the keep the same rythem and everything but i can't!!!
I just started playing like 3 days ago but this sucks man and there aren't anyone giving lessons where I live
Maybe it's out of tune?
How can I get better at strumming? 😕
LaySong TV same
i know this sounds cheesy, but practice... slow way own at first then gradually speed up. and dont forget to practice changing chords while strumming too. the hardest part for me was singing and strumming at the same time, but i eventually got it.
LaySong TV you just play until you get use to it
What do you recommend for a first ukulele song? Because I'm a beginner trying to get better.
+YoBoyRob The FUN Song from Spongebob is a pretty good place to start :)

hi 😊 I'am 14 can i start to play ukulele? Btw: love your videos :3
The Art Girl why not? :)
I don't know :D :) I just wanted to ask ^-^ I love guitars and all those thinks ♡.♡
hi I am 14 and I rock out on the uke, have fun
The Art Girl You can start playing anytime you want =). I just started playing few weeks ago and just posted my first video on my channel 😊
The Art Girl If it's because of tøp then same...
I cant play B7 what do I do?
Help me plz
try pressing hard the strings, especially the one in the third(?) fret. I find its easier if I focus on pressing and strumming quite strongly
I just play Am, it's not the same sound but I think it still works :)
you can also play b7 by pressing the 4th fret g string, 3rd fret c string, 2nd fret e string and open 'a' string.
Love how hes so straight forward
This song is the reason why I got in to ukulele! #thankful4uke for such an easy tutorial
