    Back in my beginning quilting years, I bit off more than I had skills for! Thanks for the tip of measuring those intersections. Perfect! Your tutorials are done professionally and graciously. Thank you

    You are the only one that shows how to magically sew the intersections perfectly. You are by far the best so far . Thank you

      Haha! Everybody else is afraid to recommend pinning as needed like this!

    You can make a template (that matches the shape of the corner you are making) with a hole in it, for quick dot-marking if your start-and-stop dots.

    Your instructions are so unbelievably clear! I just did my first Lone Star two-piece section with a setting triangle and it is PERFECT! I am so appreciative of your tutorial! Thank you, thank you!

    Excellent demonstration. In addition to "easing" with your awl (easing on the top), you could flip over and allow your feed dogs to do the easing...feed dogs can do it more evenly than some of us mere mortals. (You are not a mere mortal!)
    Sewing awls/stilettos are really helpful--promotes both safety and accuracy!

    Thank you so much! I have never seen this done so well. I have had a lone star in my UFO’s for 15 years because I couldn’t get anything to lineup right. You are a Godsend!

    Best “Y” seam construction video I have seen and I have watched a lot of them. Thanks very much for your great instructions and camera work. I have tried setting in seams before with just mediocre results but now with your instructions, I feel I will be able to improve. Thanks again.

    I’m not a purple person, but I am in love with the colors on this Lone Star! Nancy, your work looks impeccable. I’ve been staring at the back of your quilt and the seams are perfect, and I know your fabrics are batiks, but there’s not a single loose thread on the back! Beautiful.Also, I really appreciate the good camera work! I really appreciate the close up views of the fabric going under the needle, and the quilt on the pressing board. It makes her words make sense to me since I’m a visual learner.

    For some (insane) reason I decided that my first major quilt should be a Lone Star. Too bad this video wasn't available 6 years ago! I had lots of "easing in" moments and I do think matching those seams was the most difficult. I was delighted with my finished product and I didn't have those "mountains". I would make another Lone Star and now, having watched this tutorial, I have learned a few tips. Thanks, Nancy. Great job and I so appreciate your videos.

    I'm adoring your color choice of fabric and I'm almost wishing I went with some purples. The color choices I went with are brown, burgundy, hunter green and cream. This is a fun segment Nancy. Thank you!

    Why don't you backstitch? Do you put anything other than water in your iron ? Just started watching you , great videos.

    • @notesfromleisa-land
      @notesfromleisa-land 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because she is pivoting, there is no need to backstitch--she is making a continuous seam and sewing off the fabric.

    Love your tutorial on this start! I watched all of them. Will be making this once my fabric order arrives. One thing what is the ending size of this Stat with the corner squares and triangles finish at without the borders? Thanks and again love all you videos!!

    My question: When cutting the triangles, which way is the grain running?

    • @notesfromleisa-land
      @notesfromleisa-land 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Triangles are cut from squares cut on both diagonals. That method ensures that the straight of grain is on the outside; bias on the inside.

  • @lindab259

    Thank you! But my set in triangle and squares now have a “wave” in them. Is there anyway to fix this without taking out the setting squares and triangles?

    Hi Nancy. I know I'm a tad behind relative to when you released these lone star videos, but did I miss something? How did you determine what size the filler triangles and corner squares were to be? This is probably an obvious answer, like in a grocery store. Where is the tinned pie filling, please....Right behind you Ma'am!! Know what I mean? So, please could you help?

    Love the Lone Star quilt and I am trying it myself. How would you deal with a 'mountain' in the middle of the star after sewing the two together? I really love your colours too. From Shirley.

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shirley - if you get the mountain, you need to figure out why you got it - were your diamond accurately cut and pieces? Were your completed diamond sections all trimmed down tot he correct size. Or is is that your seams putting the diamonds together were not accurate all the way to the end of the point of the diamond. i wish there was a way i could see your project - then i could help you really figure it out - Nancy

    How do you trim the squares and triangles once they're sewn?

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I use freezer paper that I cut into the diamond shape the size I need.

    How come you sew over the pins when every other instructor cautions against it?

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mainly because I am a rebel? - no, honestly, if you use the correct pins, a fine silk pin with a long shaft and sew over them carefully you won't have an issue. Generally when people are hitting the pins it's because the pin is too fat or too high because of the big ball on the end or they are going to fast. Sew over pins at your own risk :)
