Spock would be the final boss in an argument. His rational Vulcan side gives him impeccable logic, and then his feisty human side gives him spicy sass. That's quite the deadly combo!
Much as I respect Urban's and Pine's performances in this series of movies - and they did do a find acting job - unfortunately, both Kirk and Spock are...not really Kirk and Spock. They're both written like late adolescents. Kirk takes nothing sufficiently seriously, and Spock is a semi-neurotic, awkward young man who lacks self-awareness and self-understanding, and has an air of arrogance covering a deep sense of self-doubt. In both cases, this is absolutely at odds with their character as portrayed in TOS. Kirk was a consummate professional, who advanced through the ranks to become Starfleet's youngest starship captain ever, not through reckless seat-of-the-pants stunts, but through grit, hard work, and study; his outer charm was paired with a steely determination. Spock was cool, subdued, and confident, not neurotic; there's a clip in Mudd's Women where Spock and Scott are relaying the ship's dilithium and power problem to Kirk, and Spock is leaning on a console with a lightly bemused look on his face. He's reserved, not this awkward, fumbling, late adolescent who doesn't understand his own emotions that we're given in the reboot movies. In short: the writers of the reboot movies (and let's be honest, Abrams was the one in charge even where he wasn't screenwriter) apparently have no idea how to write MEN, so they wrote late adolescents. Chris Pine was 29 when this movie came out, but the character he was given to play was apparently a 29 year old going on 17, while Spock seems like an intelligent but moody, nervous, awkward, and stiff 15 year old. A waste of some good actors, really.
I agree. And they were military men at that, with a deep respect for rank, protocol and training to be cool under pressure. They all behave like first year cadets, not experienced officers who have advanced through rigorous training.
@@jdsiv3 - Agreed. But then that’s what you get when you have a movie where a people go through Starfleet Academy in what appears to be six months or something, then one of them is promoted to Captain immediately upon graduation.
Admit it, if not for Scot or Irish "seasoning" in characters this drama is flat. Kirk itself is "church" in Scot. And how stupid was Martin Landau to turn down the Spock role because he had no emotions.

Can we just appreciate that Uhuras "no. I'm assigned to the enterprise." Sass with Spock literally saved her whole life.
"Out of the *chair*..." in that...tone of strained patience, is the best.
😂
Exactly!😂 As well as the tug out of the chair.
This is my pass
Yo, I love how incredibly sassy Spock is in this trilogy. Perfect deadpan attitude
“Hi, Christopher, I’m Nero”
Everyone: Hi, Nero!
“Hi Freeze. I’m Batman”
1:05 "get out of the chair" in the most exasperated voice Spock has to offer gets me
What every parent tells their children when they enter the living room...:)
And the exasperated compliance from Jim
He talks in the ultimate calm cool unemotional yet firm sounding alpha male voice. Spock: Are you with Starfleet?
Scotty: Yes. Can I get a towel?
Cant stop thinking of Michael miracling a towel to Azeriphel in Good omens from that clip.😂
Favourite line in the whole movie. We quote this alot at our house...
Karl Urban's delivery of "As you were." has lived freely in my mind ever since I first saw it
“As you were”
“As *you* were”
Nothing tops Vulcan sass
MJR Taurus I do.
... including the brilliant *"Are you out of your Vulcan mind?!"* 😆😆
What Spock meant by "Live long and prosper" was "Live long and fuck you". I love Spock! He rocks!
He does NOT mean that.
It depends on the innovation and situation and was a mug fling back at the Vulcan academy heads in that case.😙
@@FrauIndian They said "your mother" before that scene and he was pissed and declined their offer to join the academy so yeah im pretty sure he meant live long and fuck yourself
Context of the conversation. In that particular scene he did mean it that way. They insulted his mother as well as him by calling out his human half.
I always thought it was just me that heard “live long and prosper and go fuck yourself”

Bones, his best friend: “I don’t know, but I like him”

Spock always used logic bones always countered with emotion it was a perfect relationship.
Especially since PEB is Bones' line.
BEST line in the whole movie.
Lots and lots of sass, and then just *_I LIKE THIS SHIP!_*
Scotty said that cause he likes the ships construction, sass and never dull moments, he will regret saying that in the future.😂
This re-boot had it all. Good writing. Good acting. And lots of sly references to the original series. (and oh yeah, Zoe Saldana as Uhura!)

"What's your name?"
"CUPCAKE!!"
In this movie I love how they make "Live long and prosper" into a version of "Go fuck yourself"

Bones: Should we... I don't know, fire back...?!??!
