    This is unbelievable. I can't believe my mother's improvement in the same day I gave her the coconut oil. She used to not get humor or jokes and not focus on TV. In one day its like she is a completely different person.

      @@MisterUrbanWorld She is ok but everything went down hill after she took an antipsychotic for her delusions prescribed by a doctor for 6 months. We should have stopped that medicine asap but we didn't. I later found out that it is one of the worst medicines prescribed for dementia patients. She is not the same anymore, she was much better without that medication. Another thing I give her daily is black seed oil, it is one of the best oils for nerve recovory. I just boil water and put the oil with honey and mix it.

      @@lolettoa2971 Sorry to hear that. My grandmother passed years ago from Dementia. I didn't follow the steps properly, as I was only giving her MCT Oil once per day whenever I saw her, and didn't give her Coconut oil at all. This is why proper research and reading is fundamental. I'm in my 30s, so i'm going to start taking some of your advice above for my personal health and families health to be on the safe side. Wish the best for you and your family.

    It’s working! My grandfather has Alzheimer’s and we give it a shot, we had nothing to lose and my grandma says he is not as lost as it used to be. It is worth to say we give him medicine but there was a time when we run out of coconut oil and he was more “lost”. Thanks to this video my grandfather is doing better. I bought a small amount of MCT oil for myself to see if I am okay with it, but I also sprinkled some on my dad's food for several days. My dad has dementia. He is 86 and declining these days. I notice no change in myself but I see a slight improvement in my dad's brain function. He can think a bit more logically. So, I think MCT oil is working!!!

      @@mialargo9388 Hi, Well, my mom's dementia got better after MCT. She was having trouble dividing food I cooked into 3 portions. After MCT oil, she was no longer asking me for assistance because it is a very easy task for her. My mom has been taking MCT C8 for a little over 1 year now. She had one episode of not remembering me at all before I wrote the comment above. However, after MCT, she has never forgotten me. "Of course I remember you!! What are you asking?!" is her response. We've been giving MCT oil to my parents (dementia/Alzheimer's) for over two months now - 1 tablespoon a day, mixed with fruit juice - and they BOTH mentioned that they feel better. My mother started reading again. My father retains his memories longer than an hour, which was his previous record. I think MCT oil shows a lot of promise, and there's nothing to lose. Oils are good for us, and coconut oil is best. I am curious to know more about ketone esters, because they seemed even more effective with her husband. To all you skeptics out there - don't wait for big pharma to package and "reinvent" this simple supplement just to make a profit (it sickens me that capitalism allows corporations to profit off sick people). It makes more sense to go back to nature to fix our problems than it does to invest in chemicals and molecular inventions.

    The only thing I dispute is "you dont absorb calcium very well if you drink low fat or no fat milk". YOU DONT WANT TO TAKE CALCIUM LIKE THAT. There are so many other factors necessary to keep ca in your bloodstream and into bones and not arteries. #1 being normal magnnesiuum levels are imperative.

      Fat will thicken blood, which makes blood clots more likely. But in the long term, fat does NOT shrink arteries. Sugar does that. You can counter the blood clot risk with water and blood thinners like aspirin, cinnamon, hot peppers, and also nitric oxide from watermelon, esoecially the skin. Basically, once you start to urinate excessively, your blood will also be thinned by then, because the body dumps excess water into the bloodstream.

      The government recommended food pyramid is upside down. Don’t believe the lying CDC. Carbohydrates and sugars are responsible for plaque and cardiovascular disease. My grandparents parents and great grandparents lived on farms, as did my wife’s. My grandparents ate sausage or bacon almost every morning. Butter and ONE biscuit almost every day. For sweets, an occasional peppermint stick homemade ice cream about 4 times a year, apple pie on special occasions and about 4 days every month. They raised chickens, pigs, rabbits, and all lived into their late 80 or early to mid 90s. FRIED chicken for Sunday lunch and chicken left on the table, covered by a lace tablecloth for the 4 pm supper.

      L’olio mct a media catena di trigliceridi c8 con 8 legami di carbonio non viene assorbito come un qualunque grasso ma va direttamente al fegato agevolando in tempi brevi la produzione di corpi chetonici; ovviamente occorrerebbe adottare una dieta low carb o ketogenica per rimanere in stato di chetosi e agevolare guarigioni grazie a riparazioni mitocondriale. Quindi l’olio mct è un booster per entrare più velocemente in chetosi anziché attendere diverse settimane ma il ridotto contenuto di carboidrati permetterà di conservare lo stato di chetosi. Suggerisco un approfondimento sulla dieta ketogenica. Saluti

    Dr. Newport, anyone. I have been on Coconut oil for a week, 7 tablespoons a day. How soon thereafter should I notice a different? Thank you Joe Mancini

    • @ekondigg6751
      @ekondigg6751 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A bit late for Joseph, but for anyone else interested: You should have noticed a difference from day one. If there hasn't been after a week, it's not going to be doing anything.
      It's only going to be useful if there's an underlying problem of glucose uptake in the brain. If that's not the problem, then coconut oil or MCT oil is not going to help.
      I tried it on my mother in law age 94 at the time with advanced Alzheimer's that was getting inexorably worse every month (didn't know about this earlier, it probably would have stopped the deterioration earlier). An effect was noticed the same day... It stopped the deterioration, and she even was able to start reading again. Put her on a ketogenic diet with added coconut oil and later also MCT oil. It's 19 months on, and she has recently had a stroke which pretty much paralysed her. But no deterioration in mental capacity during that time.

    Can coconut oil can be taken for memory improvement in young age ??

    • @AlzheimersWeekly
      @AlzheimersWeekly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand, it helps memory because it compensates for mitochondrial dysfunction. So if you are perfectly healthy, it might not make a difference. At the end of the day, it is a food and not a drug. So it shouldn't hurt to try it out for a couple of weeks just to see if you notice any difference. The research on it seems to indicate that if it makes a positive difference for a person, you will notice the difference quickly, in a matter of hours or days.

    I would like to believe this but I don't.
    All you have to do is give coconut oil to a couple of hundred earlier stage Alzheimer patients and give them the clock test, before and after. The simple test has them draw a circle and write down the 12 numbers of a clock in the correct places.
    If there is a marked improvement in the placement of the numbers, the oil works. If there is no improvement it doesn't work.
    WHERE IS THIS SIMPLE AND CHEAP STUDY?

    • @ekondigg6751
      @ekondigg6751 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Eric, although this is a few months late, I suggest you check out the Bredesen protocol. A main part of the test is checking if one of the (36 different and counting) factors causing Alzheimer's is insulin resistance. If it is, then that is treated.
      Giving coconut oil is not some magical belief, it's actually a quick and simple method of getting around the insulin resistance problem where brain cells require insulin to make use of glucose, but can't get enough because not enough insulin is available to them. An alternative fuel for brain cells are ketones. But the liver doesn't normally produce them unless insulin levels are quite low. When medium chain triglycerides, however, are available in quantity, the liver can easily convert them to ketones, and will do so whatever the amount of insulin. So the brain gets relief, even though the underlying problem (insulin resistance) has not been dealt with.
      Dr Bredesen's team does use, among other tests, the clock test, and has been getting very good results - which last.
      My experience with my 94 year-old mother in law: she had been going steadily downhill over around 2 years, and got the point last Summer of no longer being able to read, taking to "whooping" instead of speaking and no longer looking at the TV probably because she couldn't follow it anymore. It was at that point that I learned about this possibility and we tried it out. Withing a week the whooping stopped, after 2 weeks she was watching TV and after maybe a month she was reading again. This has continued right up to today. The decline has been stopped in its tracks. I wish we had known about this possibility earlier. We keep her on a mostly ketogenic diet to remove the root cause of insulin resistance, and continue with a teaspoon of coconut oil 4 times a day just to make sure (ketones last around 3-4 hours in the blood so the doses are spread out every 3 hours, apart from when she's in bed).
      This will only work if a person's dementia has insulin resistance as a major cause. Unless getting a battery of tests like with the Bredesen protocol, you can't know until you try it. If there's no improvement after, say, a month then forget it. But if the person responds, then great! But don't stay just with coconut oil or MCT oil, get the person on a ketogenic diet to remove the cause.
