To answer your question about Yanfei: she was introduced in 1.5 during Zhongli's first rerun. That being said, I don't actually know if she's on the Noelle banner or not.
I mean you can click "details" to see who's on a banner. As far as Noelle goes that's info useful for Java not you though. Big thing is Noelle doesn't give 4 or 5* weapons at all, so you're guaranteed at least one non-Noelle 4* on her banner, and if you get a 5* it's always a character, so for rerolling an account for a specific standard banner 1.0 character Noelle's banner is better than standard.
I personally would wait or reroll until getting Yanfei, as pyro is crucial to early game and opening chests, plus her charged attack can mine/break rocks. I ran an all-catalysts team for quite a while with Yanfei, Sucrose, Lisa, and Barbara, and it was very playable. But it wouldn’t be a Java video without self-induced suffering, so keep the C1 Lisa and let’s see where this goes!

I feel like people forget that it forces you to use the traveler in the liyue/inazuma archon quest. When you meet kazuha for the first time- you have to do a short little fighting competition to get the ride into inazuma. I just feel like nobody brings it up.
I’ve seen other people doing this challenge inspired by you but you’re still by far my favorite, other people will let themselves cut corners when needed but you always try your absolute hardest to not break the rules

From what I remember from my own catalyst only account, you could do the first three domains out of order, so you could've theoretically done Lisa's first and not needed to cheat during the Amber one. Also, using the Otherworldly Story three star catalyst that you can get from Mondstadt chests basically makes it so that you never have to use healing food, so you could consider using that until you get Barbara or some other healer.

Since you started the "swords only" seires, many people have been doing the "One-weapon-only" series too. As someone who uses Catalysts only, I find Overload is actually really useful for helping keep enemies away. Also, Yanfei isn’t on Noelle’s banner, as she came later on. Hope you enjoy your Spells Only account!
Little info bit: yanfei's and klee's charged attack can break rocks. So far i think it's just them and ningguang that can do it without reaction. Also I don't remember if klee's normal attacks also do some damage to rocks i haven't used klee in a while

Honestly, as a Lisa main I would keep c1 Lisa. Having that energy regeneration has been so helpful. I also got lucky and pulled her c1 pretty early and I don't know what it's like without it at this point lol Also, her c2 is even more helpful for combat Lisa, especially since you won't have many options for a shield for her. It sucks that you won't be able to buy it with so little time in the month, but I genuinely think having Lisa c1 will actually help a lot.

In the beginning I would just use their elemental skills, since they basically are “spells” aka catalyst based attacks, I think it’s just fair if you can use the skills but no normal attacks unless a catalyst user
I main catalyst and i am very happy that people will experience my pain, I also recommend using the blackcliff catalyst and widsith for a DPS and twin nephrite the f2p option then thrilling tales when you get sucrose

Catalysts are squishy, so the extra healing Prototype provides would be really good. And with all of Java’s possible main dps (Yanfei, Ning, Klee), he mostly locked out of consistent vape/melts, so Sucrose’s EM sharing wouldn’t be a priority and therefore value of Sacrificial Fragments on her would be lower that TToDS Atk% buff for the most part. So, TToDS for support Sucrose, Prototype for main healer Barbara.
My favourite weapon is polearm. I just love how awesome and majestic they are, and how different each has been with their attack animations. Personally really lobe Thoma's auto attacks despite his terrible damage. Love to see a male cryo polearm user and a hydro polearm user!

This is certainly interesting, but yeah, you're picking a tough challenge here. As you limit yourself to the point of not using anything except catalyst attacks, a lot of stuff isn't gonna go very well. If I remember correctly, progressing would also require you to have Sucrose for Anemo coverage at some point in the main story to activate an Anmeo Switch. So no, Ningguang/Yanfei alone wouldn't be enough... if I'm not mistaken, that is.

Just want to say on the subject of progress in places where you can't do anything - your account is called "SPELLS only", not "catalysts only". In those places where you can't use anything else but the suggested characters - attack with E and Q ONLY. No auto attack. These are elemental attacks. This is magic. These are spells.

Yanfei was added in v1.5. And you would probably want to pull on yae miko's banner(lol she had her first run last version) since she is the best dps catalyst or kokomi(she also had her rerun last version) for healing. The problem is you will want C4 yanfei for that shield.

And although her normal attacks deal less damage, the skill and charged attacks deals a lot of damage, leading to the best dps imo. But I am not the type of person to say that only I am right so you can think however you want. But for me, miko is the best dps catalyst.

Hey, quick tip on rocks Yanfei can charge attack and destroy rocks like that, time consuming, but it works. Her ability also does a bit of damage to rocks, so you don't need overload to break rocks Also, both Yanfei and Ningguang haven't been at the start of the game (Ningguang I'm not so sure) so yeah, Noelle banner is bad Edit: me saying Noelle banner is bad cause first of all, you can't build pity (just like JavaTheCup has said) though, if you do get a 5 star it's quite nice, but I have only gotten a Noelle and the bell, ouch
@@naillashroom Same, she actually showed up before Noelle when I first started playing and rolled on the Beginner Banner. I struggled so hard with the Stormterror fight the first time because I had no idea what I was doing and Ningguang was the only one left alive at the end and came in clutch.
Swords are fine, catalysts are useful and pretty, I completely forgot bows exist, so when it comes down to my favourite weapon type is is down to circumstances. If your aim is to deal damage and get the job done, claymore. If you want a all round chance with a competent weapon, polearm. (Though in general/irl terms I love hammers/axes, get the best of both lol)
It's cool that you got c1 Lisa, since that's very rare, but honestly I would rather reroll to hopefully get Sucrose or Ninguang. You will also get a guaranteed Barbara at AR 20, so I wonder if you could somehow get there right after "killing" tutorial pyro slimes, and use Barbara's normal attacks to kill Anemo slime in archery tutorial
Now is actually a great time to start spell only since it wont be long till its the klee and heizou banner and you will want to accommodate for 50/50 plus cons. Klee is the best character to break shields in the whole game so she will be a huge help for spells only
Just as info, you don't need overloaded or geo to break minerals, you can simply plunge attack and it will do some damage, granted not a lot, but it's something

Protip! You can do the starting domains at any order, that's what I did in my playthrough! Lisa first, then Kaeya, and next episode is gonna be Amber's. Also, shameless self-plug here: the first episode on my own take of catalysts only is gonna release in a couple hours, so give it a watch maybe?
When you were doing the domains with Amber, Kaeya and Lisa, you could have went to Lisa's temple first without doing the Amber's one. But anyway , I love the videos!

I'd argue that if it's 'Spells Only' (rather than catalyst) some characters elemental skills and bursts count as spells. Amber's E doesn't use her bow so it's a spell, but her Q does so it isn't for example.

I'd personally would rather reroll on standart banner until getting Sucrose or Yanfei (ideally both) for utility Also, both Yanfei and Ningguang are amazing dps, but Yanfei kinda relies on off-field hydro/electro application, so Ningguang would actually be a better main dps for the account. Or Klee, it's impossible to consistently vape w Klee anyway

My main is Yae Miko and I always pair her with Yanfei for Overcharge reactions. Sucrose is notoriously great for swirl reactions. And Ningguang can deal good damage as well as being a good character to use for mining ore or breaking rocks. And good job getting C1 Lisa. Also, will you be pulling for Klee or Haizu in 2.8?
I just remembered the very first waypoint in the seashore we unlock as a new player bc if this video and immediately went there and recreated walking through the path to monstadt. i realized again how pretty monstadt is from afar and felt nostalgic

she is not on noelle banner, like diona and xinyan were introduced in 1.1, they did not appear later on the noelle banner.

I would keep the C1. Yanfei will be rate up, so you can just grind till then. Plus 2.8 will rerun Klee, with Heizou also releasing. Not much waiting for that

In order to skip hitting the rock in amber and lumine domain do the Lisa domain first so you can get her then do the amber domain

It amazes me everytime Java comes with a really clever way to do the challenges. Of course even if there are some you can't escape because the game won't let you, the fact Java tries to find a way is so entertaining lol thanks for bringing the only spells series!
Yanfei was added in v1.5. And you would probably want to pull on yae miko's banner(lol she had her first run last version) since she is the best dps catalyst or kokomi(she also had her rerun last version) for healing. The problem is you will want C4 yanfei for that shield.
Miko isn't the best dps catalyst, that's Klee, followed by Ningguang, then Yanfei. Miko is also a sub-dps and burst dps
@@Kaurigone Miko is up to how you play her. I play her as a main dps using charged attacks. And although her normal attacks deal less damage, the skill and charged attacks deals a lot of damage, leading to the best dps imo. But I am not the type of person to say that only I am right so you can think however you want. But for me, miko is the best dps catalyst.

Hey, quick tip on rocks
Yanfei can charge attack and destroy rocks like that, time consuming, but it works. Her ability also does a bit of damage to rocks, so you don't need overload to break rocks
Also, both Yanfei and Ningguang haven't been at the start of the game (Ningguang I'm not so sure) so yeah, Noelle banner is bad
Edit: me saying Noelle banner is bad cause first of all, you can't build pity (just like JavaTheCup has said) though, if you do get a 5 star it's quite nice, but I have only gotten a Noelle and the bell, ouch

And they update noelle banner when we get new four stars so actually it's no worse than standard

@@naillashroom Same, she actually showed up before Noelle when I first started playing and rolled on the Beginner Banner. I struggled so hard with the Stormterror fight the first time because I had no idea what I was doing and Ningguang was the only one left alive at the end and came in clutch.

Swords are fine, catalysts are useful and pretty, I completely forgot bows exist, so when it comes down to my favourite weapon type is is down to circumstances.
If your aim is to deal damage and get the job done, claymore. If you want a all round chance with a competent weapon, polearm.
(Though in general/irl terms I love hammers/axes, get the best of both lol)

It's cool that you got c1 Lisa, since that's very rare, but honestly I would rather reroll to hopefully get Sucrose or Ninguang.
You will also get a guaranteed Barbara at AR 20, so I wonder if you could somehow get there right after "killing" tutorial pyro slimes, and use Barbara's normal attacks to kill Anemo slime in archery tutorial

When doing the domains where you have to break the wind rocks, you have the option to do Lisa’s first, so you get her faster.
Now is actually a great time to start spell only since it wont be long till its the klee and heizou banner and you will want to accommodate for 50/50 plus cons.
Klee is the best character to break shields in the whole game so she will be a huge help for spells only

Just as info, you don't need overloaded or geo to break minerals, you can simply plunge attack and it will do some damage, granted not a lot, but it's something
Not on catalysts. Most rocks don't even take damage from Catalyst plunges

Protip! You can do the starting domains at any order, that's what I did in my playthrough! Lisa first, then Kaeya, and next episode is gonna be Amber's.
Also, shameless self-plug here: the first episode on my own take of catalysts only is gonna release in a couple hours, so give it a watch maybe?
When you were doing the domains with Amber, Kaeya and Lisa, you could have went to Lisa's temple first without doing the Amber's one.
But anyway , I love the videos!
The integrity and determination you display in these challenges to keep to the singular weapon type is both outstanding and unmatched. I can't wait to see where you choose to take this series! Also, while it may make things a little harder earlier on, C1 Lisa IS an incredible way to start this challenge (and very on-point with the game both giving you something you wanted, but not really). I'd argue that if it's 'Spells Only' (rather than catalyst) some characters elemental skills and bursts count as spells. Amber's E doesn't use her bow so it's a spell, but her Q does so it isn't for example.

I'd personally would rather reroll on standart banner until getting Sucrose or Yanfei (ideally both) for utility
Also, both Yanfei and Ningguang are amazing dps, but Yanfei kinda relies on off-field hydro/electro application, so Ningguang would actually be a better main dps for the account. Or Klee, it's impossible to consistently vape w Klee anyway

My main is Yae Miko and I always pair her with Yanfei for Overcharge reactions. Sucrose is notoriously great for swirl reactions. And Ningguang can deal good damage as well as being a good character to use for mining ore or breaking rocks. And good job getting C1 Lisa. Also, will you be pulling for Klee or Haizu in 2.8?
