Investing In A Sigma Metalytics Precious Metals Verifier!!

  • In my opinion, every serious precious metals stacker should own a verifier or have access to one to ensure their stacks are 100% real and authentic. With so many fakes and scam artists, you can never be too sure. Although nothing in life is 100% certain, aside from taxes and death, this is the closest thing to it.

    Very smart of you to do that . Many in the community don’t want to drop the money on a sigma but I don’t think you should be stacking weight if you cant afford/ or want to protect your metals . Sigma and a Tl-15-TL-30 safe is a must!

    I want to try to find one of those 2nd hand for a good deal..Even though I buy from only trusted sellers, still more piece of mind. I Would want the 3rd generation because the base models can be fooled by thick gold plate. But these are just another tool to test. Gold is hard to replicate and pass all tests like weight, volume. Specific gravity, ping and sigma

    So let me get this straight .. stackers put up with:
    1. Buying with ridiculous premiums
    2. Selling for below spot
    3. Paying thousands for devices to validate their sellers stuff for them.

      1. You can buy whatever your heart desires, it's your money... if buffalo's is all you want to stack, by all means.
      2. I don't sell jack without a purpose and it's never below melt value.
      3. I paid under $1k for my Sigma and did it for the reasons I explained in the video. Gaining a seller's trust is just a plus.

    I have the sigma mini, which does more upgraded model. Using it with a scale and testing Au, Ag, Pt and Pd it’s bang on, but you need to know how the unit works and focus on the numerical resistivity readouts and not the ranges etc. Sigma + scale + measurement checks on sigma mini allow you to verify resistivity & density. Fakes can only get one of those right.

    As a caveat, I have several fake pieces that will test good on this machine. They are thick plated items, odd alloys that somehow come up good. This machine should be used in conjunction with testing physical dimensions and specific gravity. I always tell customers this will find fake items, BUT it will not find genuine ones every time.

    Several of my stacker friends and I chipped in and got a Sigma. Nobody owns it but we're all welcome to use it whenever we want. We just pass it around to whomever needs it at the time.
    I used it to test some silver bars I purchased back in 2014. The bars are Scottsdale 1 ounce silver bars. The bars test good on the side with the lion. On the backside the bars test bad. The indicator is slightly out of the brackets. The backside has a pattern that does not allow much surface area contact with the probe. Could this be the problem?
    Can a bar test legit on one side but not the other and still be good? The bars all pas the weight test and magnet test but fail the Sigma test on one side. Should I be worried? What else can I do?

    • @S.G.T.Stacking
      @S.G.T.Stacking  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is such a smart idea!! If I had stacker friends around me, I would have done the same.
      From my experience, there are some things the Sigma will have trouble picking up on. One being heavily toned pieces. Another would be any high relief coins or bars.
      The first thing I would do after testing it directly on the Sigma is use the small wand or even the large one but it sounds like you already did that. Next, take a rare earth magnet to it, if it sticks... it's definitely a fake. You've already weighed it, so you're good there. If you have a ping tester (I would definitely pick one up if you don’t have one already, they cost like $25), these bars should work on it. Compare the sound to a known legit bar with roughly the same specifications as far as weight and dimensions go. Another thing you can do is, a specific gravity test. Precious metals all have a their own specific gravity and unless you have the Sigma pro or promini, that can't be tested on it. So what you can do is a water displacement test. Silver Dragons did a great video a few years back. I'll post a link for his video below but basically you'll just need a beaker, and a scale with a resolution of at least 10 mg.
      th-cam.com/video/ES7u-F29rqM/w-d-xo.html (Silver Dragons Video)
      The Last thing I would do if I still could not rule it out, is take a few of them to an LCS. Some LCS's (mainly the big ones) will have an XRF machine/handheld that will read through the bar and will even give you a percentage of how much of what metals the bar is composed of.
      Hope this helps out a little. It sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck my friend and thanks for stopping by!

    • @S.G.T.Stacking
      @S.G.T.Stacking  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was going to ask you the same thing but now that you bring it up, here's my response to that:
      You're right, I misspoke when I said it test though the metal however, it is definitely a reliable test giving you a percentage breakdown of every type of metal within a coin/bar. These are nothing like the PMVs because they use X-rays to interact with the electrons of an atom and in the process releasing X-ray Fluorescent photon which is unique for each element. A PMV is only testing resistivity or specific gravity.
      I saw you suggested a different type of tester for a few hundred, what was the name of that?

      @jamesrevell6475 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original sigma only does surface ecm test. It's perfect for coins, maybe not the new chunky ones. The pro version will do a through ecm test to test thicker bars.
      An alloy can be made to fool an ecm test. So you need at least a specific density test in conjunction, a pain if the metal is encased in plastic. An XRF can detect alloy but may not detect an insert like gold over tungsten. A magnetic weight test can detect insert anomaly (by checking if the test object is attracted or repelled, detected by weight changes, by a very strong magnet).

    • @tslee8236
      @tslee8236 ปีที่แล้ว +1
