In this video ADCC Champion Andre Galvao looks back on his famous, epic match against Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares. He breaks down the key moments of the fight and how he found his path to victory against the scariest competitor of ADCC that year.
Andre Galvao went on to win Double gold in 2011 winning the 88kg and Absolute divisions. In 2013 Galvao earned his right to challenge Braulio Estima for the Super Fight crown.
Galvao was able to win the rematch and defeat Braulio by Submission. He then went on to defend his title against Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu at ADCC 2015.
Galvao then went on to beat his former team mate Claudio Calasans at ADCC 2017 and Felipe Pena at ADCC 2019.
Now Andre Galvao will soon be defending his ADCC crown for the last time against Gordon "The King" Ryan at ADCC 2022.

Great video. @ 0:49 Toquinho's handshake almost removed Andre's arm from his shoulder. Dude is really physical in everything he does.
At 0:08 this handshake looks like an NFL shoulder tackle. This Palhares guy is brutal
I’ve heard from multiple sources that he’s honestly just an asshole that probably has something to do with it. Plenty of much stronger guys on the planet take strong men for example are super calm and chill. Maybe he’s compensating for being 5,6
But that's it. He's probably is the humblest dude on earth. I can watch this video over and over and still be awed over the comraderie of those two. BJJ at it's best.

I remember going backstage at the 2013 adcc. I was surprised to see how friendly and supportive all the competitors were for each other. I doubt it would be like that now.

Yeah, he is on crazy amount of streroids. So skillwise they were able to pull the "mata leão" on him... Doesnt it upset you that because a chimp like him decides to fuck up his health and future now you gotta do it too to compete against him even if you were the same skill? One of my favorite fighters ever. He honestly isn't a bad guy, his mentality during fights isn't the same as when he's not in a fight. He's pretty much kill or be killed during combat. He explains this in various interviews.

Amazing and entertaining fight. But you can see how much the grappling game has elvoved since then, when you watch Palhares versus Tackett or against Gary Tonon. Way smaller guys who have had more success and dominance against him
Yes, but you cant really compare the Palhares that faced Tackett or Tonon to this beast. He was in peak physical/medicinal prime here, if you know what I mean. 5 years is a long time when living that lifestyle...😉
It's nice to see new comments on these old fights. I remember starting BJJ in 08 since than the sport has more than doubled with new competitors
