    I just started volunteering a a local horse farm. I didn't know there were so many different types of horses. I was told to get a certain type of horse, and the person was calling it by its breed(?), and I didn't know which it was. I just know them by color....or at least I thought I knew. There are even different ways to call their coloring, which I'm still learning. I'm going to watch this video a couple of times so that the next time I go back I know what people are talking about.

    you have done a good job with this video i will give you that but if you train any horse to in the correct manner it will succeed in what you have been working for(obviously height and weight of the animal must be considered but i am referring to any HORSE not small ponies incapable of such manner).

    • @SistersHorsingAround
      @SistersHorsingAround  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment! Please understand that the information that we presented in the video is not our opinion it is factual information about horses. We discuss the different categoriaztion of horses and some horses fit in more than one category. When we say that horses are grouped by job, we mean that the horses are categorized according to what they were bred to do. Now we are certainly aware that any horse may be "capable" of being trained to do something other than what it is bred to do. But we also feel like just because you can train a horse to do something other than it was bred to do, doesnt mean that you should. Some horses just aren't built for certain things. Hypothetically speaking, training a sullfolk punch to event or a trying to get a welsh to gait like a Paso Fino. So just because a horse has potential to be trained different from its breeding that doesn't mean that it is the most beneficial thing to do for the horse. We have seen people do all kinds with animals. We have seen a girl jumping a cow and a man riding a bull and the bull piaffing. So yes, they were trained to do something that they werent bred to do. But again, we were referring to horses being categorized by their jobs. Thanks for watching!

    BTW/NOTE:
    Note #1: love the video, I was looking for certain types because of my Red Dead Online horses and wanted to understand them and see if they were accurate IRL. Made this and yall can use it! also learned more than I thought, didnt know about this Gaited stuff! Thank you, Queens!! The audio is bad only during Intro and Outro but the rest it was great! Also put some warnings to help people skip stuff they would feel uncomfy about, tho its very true about Race Horses... Someday i will have enough money to actually have my own horse(s) so I can take in those that have to deal with those near death moments and take them in until, if i can, get a loving person to take them in and know they are safe!
    Btw: I play Red Dead Online mainly to use it as a horse game to basically act like I have my own horses, which is why I looked up " beginners guide to horse types" and got here! which made me realize and learn so much! Since I wanted to make my Red Dead Online gameplay/Roleplay realistic as it can get I learned 2 out of the 3 horses I have within the game wouldnt be able to handle me and I wouldnt be able to handle them IRL... Dont wanna have to say bye to them cause I got so attached but dont wanna torment them cause I made my character in the game a lot like me... But thats basically why I found this!
    note #2: Was amazing how much I learned while watching this and finding out so much I didnt know! Ive been living off of my younger self's thoughts and feelings towards horses but little did I realize how much I didnt actually know! Thank you again such an amazing video!!

    I've been debating on getting a horse for a long time now, I've had my eye on a Andalusian since there is a breeder around me that has them however I did not see them mentioned in the video, would they be a good horse for a first time owner/rider or should I look into another breed that would fit the criteria better?
    As a side note and while it is not critical to the topic of the video, the image you guys used for Europe at 2:25 is actually Russia with the European Union flag superimposed on it and while a part of Russia exists within European continent the majority of the territory of Russia exists within the Asian continent and it is certainly not what is recognized as the European continent proper nor a part of the EU. Just a little helpful info from a geography nerd to use for future reference.

    • @SistersHorsingAround
      @SistersHorsingAround  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are excited for you that you are considering getting a horse and that you are especially thinking about an Andalusian! They are BEAUTIFUL horses! Oh btw, not mentioning them in the video was only for the sake of time. There are so many different breeds of horses in the world so we just mentioned a few. Our goal with this video was to make people aware of the many different types of horses. The plan is to go more in depth into the different breeds that exist in each type/category in another video. Also, just a "nerdy" fun fact in return 😉😉: The Andalusian horse is a foundation stock breed and technically doesn't belong in the warmblood category. They were considered hotbloods alongside the Arabian and Thoroughbreds. That is how the Friesian breed can be a warmblood without having Arabian blood in it, because of the Andalusian.
      As for your question, truthfully any breed of horse COULD make a good horse for a first time owner if the horse has the right temperament, as this factor carries the most weight in the decision making. It is said that Andalusians do make good beginner/first horses because they are smart, willing, and versatile horses. They also excel in many disciplines. But because horses can be so different due to training and treatment during their developmental years, you will have to get to know the horse in person to get a feel for their personality before you will be able to make a good decision for or against them.
      Also, thank you for pointing that out to us about Europe. We have been working on an update for this video because there were so many things that we wanted to fix (audio and graphics). Finding images of the different European countries are difficult because we can only use copyright/royalty free images. We will definitely keep that in mind for future reference! Thanks for watching!

    What the difference between thoroughbred quarter and Arabian horses in terms of appearance?

    • @SistersHorsingAround
      @SistersHorsingAround  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very good question! For starters we will start with Arabians. Arabians are very beautiful! They are hot-blooded horses characterized by long arched necks, a tapered and chiseled face, flat croups, and a high set tail. They are intelligent, sensitive, and personable and also originated from the middle east.
      As for Thoroughbreds, this breed originated in England and descended from some very influential stallions: the Godolphin Arabian, the Darley Arabian, and the Byerley Turk. Thoroughbred horses are hotblooded horses as well and are known for their speed, agility, and good temperaments. They are tall, lean, have long necks and legs, high withers, and short backs. Aside from racing, Thoroughbreds make very good horses for other disciplines, such as Show Jumping, Dressage, Hunters, etc. Just as a little fun fact, back in the 18th and 19th century, if you had a Thoroughbred, you were considered well-to-do and higher up in social status.
      And last but least Quarter Horses. This breed originated in North America and is used for a host of disciplines but it is especially known for being a racing (how it got its name) and a western horse. This breed is technically considered a "warmblood" because it is descended from hotblooded horses and native breeds. One of the founding breeds was the Thoroughbred and Quarter horses are known for their calm, steady, and reliable temperaments. They make very good horses for all ages! The type of "QH" that you will most often seen being ridden are the stock type, and are known for being muscular, thick, having short cannon bones, and strong hindquarters.
      Its actually quite interesting how very different these breeds are, but also how they are linked! If we didn't have the Thoroughbred horse, we wouldn't have the Quarter Horse, and if we didn't have the Arabian, we wouldn't have the Thoroughbred that helped create the Quarter Horse!

    Great video. However here's a little fact about ponies: Not all ponies are under 14.2 hands. If you go to The Equinest to look up equine breeds and only look at ponies, you'll realize that not all ponies are under 14.2 hands.
    Example: Ariegeois Pony is about 13 to 14.3 hands.

    • @SistersHorsingAround
      @SistersHorsingAround  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, we are glad you enjoyed the video! When creating the video we tried to stay within the parameters of each definition for clarity's sake. You are right about ponies, there are a lot of breeds that have ponies that are horse sized (another example would be the Connemara pony which is supposed to be 12.2 -14.2). But the same goes for horses too. There are pony sized horses even though their breed isn't a pony (our Gypsy Vanner mare is 13.3 althoughshe is a horse breed). And on top of that, there are breeds that are pony sized but are considered a horse breed (for example, Icelandics) by the people in their countries of origin.
      So we tried to keep things as simple as possible but will make video that will go more in-depth on the subject. Btw, we have always found the Ariegeois breed very interesting and beautiful! 😍😍
