    You really have to consider interest and time value of money..... + family + pandemic + 401k+ life overall + having a job.. I feel like flashy MBA is only as valuable as the knowledge the person brings to the table.

    • @gmatclub
      @gmatclub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree!

    • @gmatclub
      @gmatclub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes... when you recruit, you are competing with your classmates who have the same thing in common with you, your degree. So the question is what else do you bring to the table. Usually that aspect is evaluated and addressed during the application process. Many schools look at your employability after you graduate in evaluating your fitness for the program. There is the old dilemma, are HBS graduates getting recruited because they went to HBS or were they really amazing to start with, which is why they got admitted to Harvard and got the job on their own.
      One thing I can say, business school definitely changes you and makes you more confident. It is only when you’re pushed to the limit that you really understand what you’re capable off. Business school tends to do that.

    I’m in a top 100 and don’t care. I worked my ass off into a mid level exec position. I’m working backwards now to get an mba just to not get low balled at other companies. Cheap online school. Better route if you have the experience

    If you want to get a "free" MBA, you dont have to look too far down the list. Arizona State's W. P. Carey (currently #30 on US News) offered free tuition in 2015 and has silently continued the practice of offering very low cost MBAs even as it rises in the ranks and has gotten its students into top firms like top consulting and tech firms lik McKinsey, Amazon and Microsoft - despite being known as a top Supply Chain school (#3).

    Honestly this is so incredibly sad. Listen to how fluffy this bullshit is. Imagine asking a physicist why you should go study physics and you get this answer.
    This literally amounts to Biz School is a religion. It ONLY has value because employers believe it has value, and that premium in pay can be used to pay off your loans. But the degree itself is outdated the second you leave school aside from "soft skills".
    So you're paying for a network (of other idiots who know it's all BS but are going through the motion cuz you have to) and soft skills you can learn anywhere... for the price of a quarter of a million dollars... (All things you can get for $0 with a little elbow grease. All those professors and students have email addresses and Twitter accounts.)
    What in the absolute fudge... How is this legal?!
    MBA needs a massive overhaul because at this point they could replace the curriculum with chainsaw juggling and all the same garbage rationalizations would still apply: network, gets you hired at higher pay, soft skills, blabla...
    If you're interested in math, go study math. If you're interested in medicine, go the med school. If you're interested in biz school, biz school should be the way to go and it's an incredible disservice that it's not.

    • @gmatclub
      @gmatclub  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Using your logic then the stock market is also sad … Picasso is sad. Monet is sad. Walmart’s tires on sale apparently are not because you get a great value… and they are not outdated like those old paintings.
      MBA is not a good or service. It is a journey of self seeking and self improvement. There are definitely ways to gain these without an MBA or get your career plans. But frankly, I don’t know if another path or degree that would allow one a path to switch careers easier and to completely shift their career.
