    The organizer is making a lot of money!! It's $10 a try! Let's say if 100 people try daily, he makes $1000 a day. Even if someone wins the challenge, the organizer still makes $900 bucks!
    Impressive idea!

    I am a rock climber and I can go 200 seconds easily, it's all about the grip and letting your muscles relax as much as you can. Once the tension builds in the muscles, the lactic acid takes over and the pain makes you let go.

      Games Games well women tend to have less upper body muscle, so that is why. They tend to be able to do less pull-ups as well. So it makes sense but what doesn’t make sense is if the prize was different. Should be $100

    The Beatles had a song back in the '60's titled, "A Minute Is A Very Long Time." It lasted exactly one minute and in it they described all kinds of activity that took 'about' one minute. The song is a great lesson.

    The trick is, no matter where you position yourself, chin up, pull up, hanging, whatever, the same weight is put on your fingers/hand in the exact same stress points because the bar rolls. There's no way to change the stress point. If you have/build finger/grip strength specifically that will help way more than upper body strength.

    Grip the bar with one hand in one direction, then grip the bar with the other hand facing the opposite direction, the bar wont twist as long as both hands are griping it at the same time. If you let go with one hand, the bar is going to twist making it harder for that one hand to keep it's grip. But the key is to have your hands one on one side of the bar and the other on the other side.

    I did this in sturgis 2018, I have never worked out a day in my life. I've only worked. I got cocky at 50 seconds and fell off at 76. Later that night I witnessed a guy hang for 90 and he proceeded to do pullups for the remaining 10 seconds! it was mindblowing. Only 16 people hung for the 100 the whole week. I cant wait for my redemption in 2019.

      The Loose Moose me too. I’m usually between 159-163lbs and I’ve always been a skinny dude that’s freakishly strong. My job involves a ton of grip, arm and shoulder strength so I killed this the first time I tried it. I can’t wait to get me another $100.

      i am a jabroney i too am not only ambidextrious, but also have perfectly symmetrical legs. People reallly do undervalue the leg strength required to successfully pull this off. When doing excersises like this it is important to clear your mind, and ascend to a new realm of reality that of which you are no longer feeling your physical limitations and get a surge of ascendance potential and really truly go beyond the impossible.

  • @cashmanclassics5337

    I did it and won, it took me two trys. The trick is to use one hand one way the other the other way. It keep the bar from spinning and distributes your weight more evenly. Also I don't work out. But have a huge tolerance for pain.

      Is it allowed to switch grips mid attempt? Also to clarify you did a chin up grip and then did an explosive chin up, and mid air switched to a pull up grip? Also did you hold the chin up and then relax it like the guy in the video did for his 2nd attempt? (I want to try this and want to go in knowing what to do)

    • @evothompson3073

      rodrigo san roman Yes it was a mid air switch and they allowed it. I believe had I switched one hand at a time they would not have allowed it.
      I held the chin up above the bar to begin with, then I went down to hanging position (slight bend in elbows). At the first sign of slippage I went full hang and exploded right up.
      The mid air switch to pronated grip allowed me to reset my grip. I'd say it gave me an extra 15-20 seconds can't remember exactly.

      Over under isn’t allowed because it neutralizes the spinning bar and that’s the gimmick here. Like the bent rims at carnival basketball games. It’s not impossible to do but it skews the odds in this guys favor to make sure he maintains at least a 10 to 1 ratio of losers to winners.

    It's not like hanging on a normal pull up bar, i did this in Thailand and the bar has ball bearings at either end, the more you move the more the bar moves, just saps your grip and drains the forearms, makes it at least twice as hard as a pull up bar.

    It's a dead hang so it takes any muscularity you have in your arms out of the equation. It forces all of the weight onto your hands which for most people can't support your weight. If you could do pull ups for 100 seconds many people could do it because all the other muscles share the task. And then to make sure you fail, the bar spins so that your hands are always working too. Very clever. An orangutan could hang there all day. We humans have lost our tree hanging ability.

    I remember a television show from a while back (I want to say Fear Factor, but I can't recall the exact name of the show) where they had a challenge similar to this where the person had to hang for as long as they could from a bar (like a trapeze) way above the ground (the contestants were in harnesses that caught them when they eventually fell). But, I recall that the women did the best in that challenge whereas the bigger, muscular, stronger men lost to the smaller, lighter, women. I had kind of a theory as to why this was. I noticed that when the men had been hanging on for a while and were getting close to the point of failure, they started shaking, their muscles looked all tight and strained. With the women it wasn't like that. They seemed like they just hung. No shaking, no excessive strain. When they failed, they just let go. So, I think the big muscles men have add extra weight (of course) and tighten up excessively in the arms and shoulders, both of which outweigh the extra strength they provide. Also, I wonder how much arm and shoulder strength factors in, versus just grip strength.

    I never encountered those kind of bars but I'd definitely want to try. I think that the smaller and the skinnier you are, the better your chances. The way I see it, it's not that much about muscles, more about positioning and about your own weight. I'd say if you are around 150lbs or below, you have much more chances. Actually, I think that if you have a lot of muscles, it'll be a disadvantage for you because it'll be additional, unnecessary weight. Girls with athletic backgrounds and young teenage boys should try this thing. All you have to do is to get the strongest, most stable grip possible right away and try not to move because as soon as you move, the bar will rotate and it'll get harder and harder till you'll fall. Hands should be near the same angle as your shoulders to avoid additional pressure on your elbows and upper arms area too, I believe. Basically, hang like clothes on a clothesline and wait. I really want to try this to see if I'm right. I don't think it's a scam but those who will be interested in trying it will be guys who regularly train and think it'll be easy for them because they have strong, big arms. They're actually the best preys for this type of thing, IMO. And that's how they make their money, I guess. :P With all due respect.

    Try the over/under grip like doing a deadlift. You’ll be pulling the bar towards your hand with the under grip. I’ve always found that doing the over/under grip on deadlift when not using wraps worked better for that exact reason. I used to train grip when I competed in stongman doing hanging body weight holds like that with a spinning bar. I’d put the bar in a squat rack as high as I could and just hang from it. Spinning bar is def. game changer no doubt. Def try that over/under grip.

    “Transfer the weight to your bicep...”
    Correct me if I’m wrong, but regardless if you activate your biceps or keep your arms extended you still have to hold on to the bar with your hands (using the muscles in your forearm) while you are OFF THE GROUND. Your weight can’t go through your biceps and magically disappear, it has to be transferred to what’s supporting you.
    That would be like stepping on a scale and doing a squat so that you don’t put your weight on the feet. You’re still going to weigh the same regardless. Your weight has to go through the point of contact.

    • @drilla2671

    • @patricktaylor6320
      @patricktaylor6320 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What point did I miss?
      Corey and the gentleman with the pull up bar discussed flexing your biceps to help with the hang challenge.
      The point I’m talking about is strategy to help hang on for an extended period of time.
      I don’t understand how flexing your bicep will help alleviate your body weight from the muscles in your forearms that are allowing your hands to hold on.

    • @drilla2671
      @drilla2671 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patricktaylor6320 using different muscles at a time eg bicep, lets you put the strain on the bicep and then when your bicep gets tired you can just dangle because that doesnt use the bicep , instead utilises other muscles like your forearms, shoulders, lats. this means that you would be dangling with fully rested muscles that are being used (forearms, shoulders, lats), while already having say 40 seconds already completed since you used your biceps before for that.

    • @patricktaylor6320
      @patricktaylor6320 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that in certain circumstances using different muscle groups to help other muscles rest, but how can you allow your forearm muscles to rest when they are holding your weight off the ground? Regardless of what other muscles you activate like your biceps, shoulders, lats, abs, hip flexors, you still have to hold onto the bar. If I weigh 170 pounds and do a flexed arm hang, I still weigh 170 pounds regardless of what position I’m in. My forearms won’t feel a difference in weight because your hands are the only point of contact. Regardless of what position you hold your forearms still have to hold against your weight off the ground.
      I would argue in this situation the only way to allow your forearms to rest is to let go entirely or one at a time- not allowed- or perform a muscle up, which probably isn’t allowed, so that you can activate your triceps to keep your elbow locked.
      Does this make sense? I’m sure there are countless ways to hang from a bar, but as long as your hands are the only point of contact you cannot give your forearm muscles relief. You may distract yourself with the pain of your biceps tiring, but your forearms don’t actually get a break.

    • @drilla2671

    They all talk about engaging biceps to make it easier, but it seems like its a grip strength issue -which means pulling up doesn't change the amount of weight hanging on the bar... just saying. If they dropped because of lats and back fatigue that would be different. It's probably a way to get dudes to try again.

    hmmm seems like a lot can't do this,I thought for sure most I saw doing this could hang double that time. Good to know that the max average hang time is 80 to 95 seconds. which one should consider when hanging off like a 20 story building trying to grab a selfy which would also diminish part of the max holding time by about 20 to 40 seconds if your briefly only using one arm to hang with.

    the spinning actions creates friction which creates heat which causes tension in the fingers and the sweat loosens your grip, if you want to win this challenge, you dont need shoulder muscle, or bicep muscle, you need a forearm muscle. Someone skinny with big Forearms, toned, cut muscluar forearms will win. I mean basically, even if you got no muscle, just good grip and forearm strength then ya u can win easy.
