Sindri's anger was really a reflection of his own guilt that he denied Brok an afterlife. Such a brutal and tragic ending for his character, but one that fit the events of the story
I get the feeling that will become a subplot in the next game, with Atreus finding Broks soul pieces and putting him to rest. Hopefully that will be the way he makes amends with Sindri.

@@thighcultist5428 It's not about having the "right". Sindri is grieving. He can't control all that guilt and self-hatred. It needs an outlet. He chose Kratos and Atreus as that outlet. And Kratos accepted that role, never confronting Sindri about how unfair it was, because he understands exactly how Sindri feels. Even Mimir says, "don't take to heart words said in grief." They all know Sindri just needs time to see clearly past his grief. Just like Freya did.
It's easy to figure out what happened to the mask. The rift is a time portal. When Loki threw the mask in, it arrived in Midgard in 1994 where it was found by a guy called Stanley Ipkiss. They even made a movie about that.
The biggest question it didn't answer is why the hell they thought its a good idea to have Atreus fetch quest berries and flowers for 3 hours riding a pig.
I just did this yesterday and it hit hard. I lost my older brother in March and I miss him so much. When Mimir finally solves the riddle and says hole. It's because he recognized there is a hole in Sindri's life and heart that will always be there. I got choked up and no game has ever had that affect on me. Great game great performances, I still miss my big brother Chris 😥
@@johnlawful2272he only reason I don’t see that is because they really tried at the beginning to convince the audience that Sindri was in love with Faye, and that’s a reason he was so close and sympathetic to Atreus, he loved Faye and the most he could do for her after her death was care for her son, I’d say his love for Faye is the only thing not making him seek vengeance, he said his plan, he’s gonna kill Odin and then move on alone like how he always did before
I thought that too. The emotions and stages of grief they displayed were spot on. 👍 A side thought. Although he is mad at Atreus and Kratos, he also knows it wasn’t their fault, but can’t bring himself to admit it. Even Freya and Mimir, two people who were with Odin A LOT and knew the real Tyr personally, didn’t even see past his lie. He needs someone to blame/unleash his anger onto, so he initially takes it out on Atreus and Kratos, but refocuses his rage to Odin. There were also instances where Sindri seemed to hesitate around Atreus after Brok’s death. Like when Atreus offered to help him up the ledge. He stared at his hand for a bit before hitting it away, as if considering to take it. And when Thrud attacked Atreus right after, Sindri went to fight her, but stopped when Atreus told him to. He didn’t have to listen to him. This leads me to believe he doesn’t hate them. He’s very angry, but it’s not hate. Hate means he would want to kill them, and I don’t see him display this kind of behavior. His only real bloodlust is directed towards Odin. And once he achieved his revenge, he just became sad and empty. When Kratos tried to tell Sindri Brok was his friend, Sindri seemed angry at first, but regained a sad look before long, knowing Kratos did see Brok as his friend. As well as knowing he cut ties with what family he had left.
Brok’s death may have been painful and sad af. But Sindri’s grief hurt almost the same to see. Such a kind, funny, caring and *clean* person change to be exactly the opposite. He was so nice and now he is dark and bitter. Hel, he even killed some civilians and didn’t give af, and sweer sindri wouldn’t even do that to a draugur
Dude the way the game shows Sindri blip after the brutal moment occurs and how the silence just lingers. It feels like a void opens; sapping all aspect of happiness, leaving only pain and sadness.

To me the hardest part about Sindri was his appearance. He was always so clean, even the thought of dirt made him uncomfortable. And now he just doesn't care anymore. Truly a broken man... I'm rarely moved to tears, but that really did it.
Faye originally found the mask making the connection to Atreus. Explaining all her knowledge on everything and events to come, also her price for using it was a slow sickness death instead of an eye like Odin. She destroyed it and scattered its pieces. Remember Baldur was actually looking for Faye in the first game, probably because Odin knew she had the mask at one point. Faye brought Kratos to the Norse world by using the mask, because he was the only one who could change the fate of their world. Just a fun theory I came up with.
Odin explained that he's the first as a young god who found the piece first (when he introduced the rift to Atreus), also that was way before Faye exist

Kratos got to Scandinavia on his journey to get rid of the blades of chaos as it was cursed and was stuck with Kratos on his deathless misery. A comic book was released after the 2018 game by dark comics explaining his year long journey where he treads through deserts and savannahs looking for the deepest ocean to throw his blades. The comic contains ton more characters and interactions and also hints the Egyptian connection where future games may take place ! Hope this helps ❤🎉
Man... Kratos is himself cursed by the temple oracle marked by his ashy skin..so getting rid of the Blades theory is lausy...he needs to get rid of the ashy skin that would be his true redemption and that would be the point where death truly earns him or vice versa.

Ah yes ares last fuck you to kratos ngl that was the most cruel thing he did to kratos in my opinion and he pretty much tried to let them rust over time after getting though he had the blades of Athena then blades of exile after the first game which didn't work well giving how in both 2018 and ragnarok when he gets the blades of chaos they look extremely weathered at the start shows how much he hates them despite how useful they are
Sindri was always about sanitization and keeping clean and when Brok died he clearly never took a single moment to clean himself. His blood still on the armor, his gloves were literally off from then on. There is absolutely a 3rd game coming and I’d love if it’s Atreus or Kratos focused, but they both have to be there to some extent. I think an Atreus lead game with a few moments of controlling OP Kratos to show how Atreus is power creeping on him but also because their story threads require each other would be amazing. Also because the actor for Atreus is so much more grown up now even compared to Ragnarok Atreus it would make for an excellent exploration of an adult perspective of a man’s relationship with their rage-filled broken father, as many of us can unfortunately relate.
I've said this elsewhere, but my theory about the mask and the rift is that it relates to Creation itself and "the higher plane" that Athena supposedly ascended to after her death.
I think Angrboda blew the horn. She's a giant who speaks their language, and she was probably telling the Serpent to let Atreus/Loki know of Ironwood. She knew he would seek answers on his quest, and who better to safely transfer the message, than someone of the same family, who is also of a generally foreign tongue.
That theory may not work; we know the Serpent could’ve just told him Ironwood simply because he remembered that is where Atreus and Angrboda freed him. But I do think Angrboda using the horn is most likely given what we know (it’s also likely we are just missing key details that the next game will present).
There was a comic that did explain how Kratos got to Scandinavia and one of the boat conversations Krato gives a straight up answer saying “ I walked. I sailed “ when Mimir ask how he got there. Edit: correction that conversation was with Ratatoskr not Mimir.
We saw in last mural that kratos came through boat and in novel or whatever they call it kratos tells he fought 3 wolves and a women commanding them that's most probably faye though it's still not clearly answered.
I think Sindri's story IS complete. He's hurt and purposeless, but he tries/is becoming less angry, as shown at Brok's funeral (he doesn't lash out at Kratos, just looks at him almost crying, but it's an improvement from being hateful). His story ark shows that, as most of the game already shown, revenge will take its toll on people, and will bring death upon people around you. Another victim of Kratos' crusade, albeit not an intentional one.
Doubt it, if anything he doesn't lash out on kratos because he realized at the end of the day síndri himself knows he helped atreus go behind kratos in the first place. Kratos tried educating atreus albeit some flaws, Sindri did help atreus disobey kratos. The ultimate gut punch is Atreus not being present at the funeral. Kratos was, and unfortunately kratos couldn't get to explain why atreus wasn't there. Which doesn't help his case in the slightest. His gripe was never towards kratos, it's directly at Atreus if there is a spinoff of atreus, no doubt Sindris going to be there.
@@MyNameBEGrey Yeah Kratos was a very reluctant participant in the war against Odin. If anything, Sindri was helping Atreus before Kratos was working against Odin by looking for Tyr etc.
4:20 At the end you can see the mural from Kratos, and there you can see him in a boat on the first panel sailing from Greek buildings to Norse buildings. I also believe that at the end Ratatoskr asks him how he is able to travel without the world tree, between realms, and Kratos says that he could travel by land and sea.
I am confused about one thing.... How much time had passed after God of war 3....coz at the end of gow 3 he was fairly young... And in gow 2018 he looked old as shit... Was he roaming here and there for hundreds of years before meeting Faye??? Or is it just the beard that makes him look old

The most impactful thing about Sindri‘s storyline for me is, that we could see how he disappeared twice. Once at Sindri‘s house and another time at the funeral. Before Brok‘s death the dwarves were always playful with how they suddenly appeared or disappeared in all the different places. It was their biggest secret (at least for me). But now after Brok‘s death, Sindri doesn’t care about it anymore, he just does it very unceremoniously.

I'm pretty sure in number 3 Kratos already told Ratatoskr that he sailed to scandinavia from greece. Also in the press conference of the GOW 4, it was already mentioned the concept on how Kratos arrived in scandinavia is that the land of gods are like kingdoms where in the GOW universe, you can walk, fly, or sail to another land (country) and that land have its own gods or mythology since in the GOW universe all gods and mythologies exist in their land
Odin said "the champion of the jotunar" would be able to see it with the mask. But we learned later in the game that the champion of the Jotunar is actually kratos. I think the rift will play a part in any god of war game here on out. Because they basically spoon fed us that kratos is the one who will learn the important shit.
I mean the mask had Greek writings all over it and atrues being half Greek was able to partially read it but many people think it’s Athena’s doing for the mask being found by Odin
I think you are misremembering the prophecy. The prophecy stated that the "god of war Tyr" with a spear in hand was going to lead the army, while the champion of the jotunar defeats Odin. We learn that the God of War with a spear in hand leading the army isn't in fact Tyr, but Kratos. I believe Atraeus is still the champion.

Kratos was given a boat by the few surviving lesser members of the Greek pantheon when they asked him to leave. He sailed for a very long time and then wandered Scandinavia for much longer after before meeting Faye.

You're wrong, he didnt go to Scandinavia on his own. He was dragged there by two wolves. It's in the little comic that takes place between gow3 and gow 2018.
3. Midgard is (sort of) Scandinavia, just like how Greece in the older games were... well... Greece. Due to the powers of the Norse mythology, Yggdrassil connects into other planes that make up the other Norse realms, while Midgard is rooted in the "real world". Kratos simply walked from Greece to Scandinavia, just like how once Mimir simply left Britain (Alba/Albion) and journeyed there as well. It is why Midgard is the "human realm" while the other realms were inhabited exclusively by other beings until someone discovered how to realm travel.
@@iem7252 Atlas is in a plane "below" Greece, holding Greece up to prevent it from falling into the Underworld, which lies directly below Greece. Unlike in Scandinavia, a determined enough guy in Greece with a shovel can make a hole and fall into the Underworld. Jörmungandr is just a big danger noodle in God of War. They call him the "World Serpent" because some say he is big enough to go around the entire world, but that is an exaggeration.
Man, while Sindri's reaction at the end of the game is totally justified and heart wrenching in and of itself... when Mimir finally gets Brok's riddle after he disappears, it just takes that sadness to a whole new level.
It's such brilliant character writing as well that the answer to Brok's riddle would be profane... a-hole. The writing and attention to detail is outstanding
Horn was definitely blown by an older time travelling Atreus on some sort of giant saving mission (which we may see in an Atreus spin off game later down the line).
i think atreus turns bad in the next game and becomes the real god of mischief, He learns information and strays away from his father teachings. Since at the end of GOW Ragnarok, kratos and let him go on to be his own person. Kratos is going to have to fight his son.......Just a theory. Loki's identity in any facet isnt a good person. Just a theory lol =]
Sindri is a prime example that not everyone gets a happy ending. They did a really good job of showing through Atreus and Sindri that taking peoples kindness for granted (intentional or otherwise) has consequences. I feel like Sindri’s story getting a stereotypical happy ending with closure with Atreus would just make every point they were trying to make with the situation completely moot
I would like to see how the actual series of events unfolded on the day Faye and Thor fought in the valley. How the crater formed how the frozen thunder formed. The way the spirits reffered to the fight; got me intrigued. This could be a great DLC story.
In Vaneheim? If u go back and clear that area the spirits u meet tell u that Thor and Faye had a huge rumble….so I’m guessing the same way Kratos and Thor made their frozen bolt

4. The dragons were canonically freed and it is referenced in Ragnarök, although very briefly while in Vanaheim. Mimir mentions they were former dwarves that were turned into dragons, while the ones in Vanaheim were real dragons (and thus less approachable). The dwarven king mentioned in side quests of the first game used parts of these dragons to create his armor.

Sometimes you can’t forgive people for the of someone that they may have caused. It wasn’t a happy ending but it’s very realistic of him to distance himself 3: Faye died of an illness. There was dialogue in the game where they mentioned it. I can’t remember if it was in the first or second one but I remember hearing Kratos mentioning “before she fell ill”

But what i am wondering then: does this imply that Greece is part of Midgard? It couldn't be, because there are different gods in each area. Also, Kratos killed the gods in Greece and thereby not only destroyed them, but also the land, the weather, the people...But this clearly did not affect the world in/of Scandinavia. So "Kratos got to Norse mythology by water" is not exactly a satisfying answer.
I did feel the story with the mask and rift was underwhelming, as we follow Atreus to obtain the mask pieces only for him to destroy the mask, so that Odin would not see the knowledge he seeked within the rift. That along with Faye and Sindri is what I hope will be explained in a future God of War game.

I see it the same way. I even liked the first part more. Especially the ending was much more like an ending. In Ragnarok one is left with more questions and unsatisfied. Odin and Thor have been defeated but in the end it feels like a third part has to come so that the Nordic mythology can really come to an end. That with Atreus was really very weak and simple writing, which he suddenly left Kratos at the end. They were probably faced with the question of whether the two would go together to Egypt or somewhere else, or whether Kratos would rather be left somewhere alone. also very strange that the giants are said to have survived in balls. I personally found it very stupid and in general it made the giants too powerful that could use such magic but Thor allegedly hunted and killed many (almost all of them).
I think that was kinda the point about the mask, just the mystery behind it and not truly knowing what the mask or the rift’s gifts or price would have come from it, Kratos even said that a shortcut comes with a price, but I get what you mean, I would have liked to known what it was capable of and what would have happened if he put on the mask, but I’m also sure if he put on the mask it would have been fulfilling the prophecy of helping Odin, it would be nice if it comes back up in future games
⭐Not linking the mask and the rift to Athena was THE BIGGEST missed opportunity in this game. The story that they couldve been crafted around that couldve have been so epic. The mask and rift even glows the same color as Athena. Odin seeks what lies beyond. Athena literally reached the beyond in the previous trilogy.

At the end of the game, when Kratos sees a second jotnar sanctuary behind the one Angrboda shows to Kratos and Atreus, you can see in the first panel Greece in flames and then Kratos on a boat, so he most most likely fled Greece by sea and happened to reach Northern Europe. Not much info on the travel, but it's better than anything.
I also think that everything in the same world is just playing in different areas. when greece fell, it didn't destroy the entire world but only greece and the areas nearby. He probably just traveled north and arrived where he was and that's where the Nordic gods and myths rule. If he had traveled south, he would probably have arrived in Egypt with its gods and monsters.
@@Fuchsfeuer except he did travel south, because in the official comic book, Fallen Gods, an old scribe tells him he's in the land of pharaohs, and he fights some Egyptian monster. They don't explain much else in the comic, though. I'm not even sure if it's actually canon, but it's supposed to be official. My guess is, they made it when they were still discussing concepts for what the next game should be like and we're thinking of placing the game in Egypt before they settled for Norse mythology.
@Fuchsfeuer there's enough to confirm Greece isn't in the same realms as midgard and mimor briefly explains that there are realms and there are worlds and the developers said Greece in GoW and midgard are jn different worlds I think the example of different galaxies was used
After the events of GoW3, Greece is ravaged by floods. Kratos discovers that he is incapable of committing suicide for magical reasons, so he leaves Greece on a boat to try and move on with his life. He repeatedly tries to get rid of the Blades of Chaos (they just magically return to him), visits Egypt, some other stuff happens and then he gets dragged to Norway by some wolves and a creepy, old woman. It was explained in a tie in comic.
In terms of how he reached Scandinavia, there is a comic book that was created that basically showed that Kratos sailed across the seas. The comic book shows that he crossed a desert also which looks like Egypt in which he saved the local village people from a deadly creature. He then left this area and continued to travel until he reached Scandinavia.
This makes no sense because he’ll be doing Egyptian gods next if they continue the games. It’s been hinted at since 4 Also, from Greece to Scandinavia, it’s north bound and it’s a land route not water… Egypt is south of Greece

@@Uneke well its what they wrote in their comics kratos actually meets I believe it was Thoth in the comics as well that the remaining god from Greece was in it. so if there is another one I don't think he will go to Egypt because he is the champion now and it wouldn't make sense. The only thing i can think that would happen if there is some king of god devouring monster and all Gods from all mythologies have to come together to stop it or some super evil villain that's kind of like Kratos evil parallel.
@@timothyfloyd3269 had to be a fan art comic… can’t be canon. And there are plenty of ways to get him to be in Egypt. An end all scenario would guarantee a final game… so it would have to be the direction they’re choosing, to go that route; which would be sad considering they just started doing the open world theme for this game franchise and steered it away from a pure hack and slash.
The rift was simply a item of temptation my personal theory is that when the mask is assembled and worn you get sucked in and get all knowledge but cannot leave and the mask was just used for those to drive people who give in to temptation
Perhaps, it could also be the writers really meant it was a tear to the truth of the universe but having Loki close it means they don’t have to come up with that.
Detail I noticed about Sindri that I haven't seen mentioned. Sindri wore gloves all the time. Once Brok died he's seen forging without gloves. He's forging with his bare hands.
2. My personal belief is that the mask is a reference to The Mask's "Mask of Loki" and was made by a future Atreus before it is sent back in time by accident or by design. Other than that, I do not believe it has a special connection to him in the game, it's just his innate godly powers of language that helps him decipher the scripts on it.
Something I don't understand is why when Loki searches the mask piece at the wrong place in Helheim it still glows, and the effect only disappears when they release the haunt 🤔
Sindri’s grief is so painful, but so realistic. I’m glad they included it, as sad as it was, because it shows a real struggle many people genuinely face. Sometimes a person can only handle losing so much before they have nothing left to lose and they’re left empty and broken. All Sindri has left is regret because he has denied his brother an afterlife. The people he thought he could trust would turn their back on him, like brok did in the old game and like Atreus did when he left to Asgard. He’s so used to betrayal, and that’s why he blames everyone else too when brok dies. The only reason he helped in Ragnarok is because his hatred for Odin, his brothers killer, was greater than his resentment for everyone else. I really hope he gets a redemption Arc, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get that. Dudes been through a lot of shit.
I was really hoping you'd go over the fact about Odin and kratos had a conversation about God-hood. Odin points out that kratos doesn't know anything about being a God because he's never been worshiped. How Odin came to this conclusion is Way beyond me because all of his Spartan brothers and sisters loved and worshiped him after he killed Aries.
Now that you pointed it out, it really doesn’t make any sense. Sure, most people feared Kratos more than they loved him, but still.. He was worshipped in Sparta
My theory is that he isn't actually just asking kratos do you know that love. my theory is since odin is a manipulator he is saying that the reason why his actions are justified is because of the pressure of being a God
Because he was never worshipped as a “god” like the rest of the pantheon, he was Sparta’s god and spartas god only, plus they talk to him more like a general or a king than a god.
There’s a really beautiful detail about Sindri’s story that breaks my heart. Raeb’s Lament, which plays during Brok’s funeral, is essentially a revised version of the Huldra Brothers theme from GoW2018. It now signifies and honors Brok’s death, but in a way it marks the death of Sindri too, or at least the version of Sindri we’ve known and loved. He’s a permanently changed man and I wouldn’t be at all shocked if we see him further down the line.
I think the mask is the same mask that Jim Carrey used in The Mask movie. It might have travelled through time and he ended up finding it. Basically the movie takes place after Ragnarok
Reading seeing the Sindri footage and reading comments about it makes me tear up. It's been months since I got the platinum for Ragnarök, but I haven't been able to move on from GOW as a whole ever since. It doesn't help that I recently played through GOW III FOUR times, but what Ragnarök did was cement the importance of the franchise in my heart. No story has ever affected me as much as this one has. Since Ragnarök, it has been a constant thing for me, to think about slowly healing from all the anger and grief I have felt over the majority of my life (I grew up in a broken, abusive family). And I also constantly think about wanting to be like current Kratos - more patient, more forgiving, more considerate, more kind towards others. I can't praise the collective story of GOD OF WAR enough. Words fail me, I can't express how much it's all moved me.
Felt man, the story kind of did the same thing for me. I grew angry and bitter over the years because of things that happened in my past and I thought I couldn’t change who I was, but it is not the form of something that matters..

I always thought it was Baldur that called the Serpent while Kratos took Atreus to Freya. Balder was still searching for the two of them at the time. Before the final battle, Balder mentions that "harming the big snake" would bring the two out of hiding. As for how Kratos got to Midgar, I suspect the creators intend that to be the story of another hand held game like Ascendant was (and a crappy idea if you ask me.) On Fey's death, I believe she willed herself to die believing she was the last of the giants and knew the prophecy that said her son would continue her work. This is the same fate that the giants met in Jotunheim where Fey's ashes were spread. The giants left their corpses behind. Whether Fey's spirit is in a marble will probably not be answered.
It wasn’t Baldur because 1. He doesn’t speak the language of giants and 2. Harming the big snake line happens wayyyy after this point. And it was when both kratos and atreus were inside the snake.
We have to go by which characters have both presence, method, and motive to call the Serpent. Here's my thought process: -Eliminate all Norse Gods. The Serpent wouldn't want to speak to anyone related to Thor. I also say Freya for a different reason: she was in her hut under the turtle. -Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir were too far away to call the Serpent. -Sindri is somewhat afraid of the Serpent, so he wouldn't call it. I doubt Brok would have any reason to call the Serpent. -Faye is long gone, even by 2018's standard. -This leaves Angrboda, but she would've been in Jotunheim. My theories are as follows: *Freya called the Serpent to ask about either her son, Atreus and Kratos, or something else. *Angrboda came from Jotunheim to tell the Serpent to either say or do something at a certain time. *Brok for some reason. So either I'm wrong about one or more of these characters, or an unrevealed character blew the horn.
There's a comic showing how kratos left Greece, went to Egypt, helped and then ended up in midgard. They reference a few points from the comic. Made more sense about the blades of chaos and why kratos still has them.
So we could have a game between the original and new set of games, where he's still rage-filled (like the old games) that'd satisfy those who miss the original Kratos while not ruining the character development of the retired God of War?

That's how he travelled. We can say that's how he left Greece because on the second panel you can see him with his son scattering Faye ashes in jotunheim, after that his fight with Thor, thus granting us a chronological order to the Mural. > it is also asked by Ratatoskr to Kratos how he would have traveled in his homeland if there was not a World Tree. As a side note, the shrines are always in chronological order. Atreus says that the shrines show the past, present, and future of the person who is the subject of the shrine. It's presumably always in that order.
It showed his as a monotheistic god so it makes me wonder which religion he goes after next? Islam? Christianity? Maybe even Irish paganism. That would be awesome with the mythical creatures the Irish believe in, the Morgan the fairy courts and what not.
If Atreus is seeking Giants then he may just be headed into Celtic mythology, or even Egyptian mythology. But I feel like Celtic mythos blends better with Norse since they’re related, and in real history the vikings came to the UK in search for a new homeland with better farming lands.
Fun fact, right before arriving in The Nordic lands Kratos was in the lands of the pharaohs by accident for a bit, he then met Athena again and oddly the Egyptian god if Wisdom

@@PerfectionistWM Thor fought Faye in Vanaheim, they also created the Frozen Lightning there similar to what had occurred during the fight of Kratos and Thor in the beginning of the game. That's why he said it was "familiar". Thor was drunk when he fought Faye that's why his memory is blurry.
Thor didn't react to the axe (except to note the frozen lightning seemed familiar) because he was a constantly drunk arsehole for most of his adult life to try and deal with how his father had always treated him. In the bits when he gets more characterisation he repeatedly says he tries not to think about what he's doing when Odin sends him to do some bullshit. On top of that, he may not even know (or care to know) that the axe is unique.
As much as I would love to see Sindri find purpose again, sometimes these kind of arcs just....aren't happy ones. He lost everything near and dear to him. And it further displays the consistent themes of vengeance, grief and the price of war that the games love to show. He deserves to be happy, but at the same time.....that isn't how it always works. And I think the game ending on this note makes it feel more grounded in reality instead of just a solely happy feel-good ending.
Borrowing from your idea, i would assume sindri would share the same fate as fafnir(a dwarf that became dragon), and you know the fate if sindri does become a dragon. It goes well with how things always never go better or only consequeces matters more than intent. But at the very least it will give sindri a (bitter, but reassuring)closure.
I always assumed the horn was Baldur calling Jormie. He was travelling round chatting to important people's for info, like Mimir at the top of the mountain.

I believe Faye moved on of her own accord. Meaning she had the ability to decide when she died. Not so much as suicide but more like moving on. Knowing that it must happen to begin kratos and Atreus’s great journey.
Faye paid the ultimate price for changing destiny, making the ultimate sacrifice for her child. Throwback to when Faye and Kratos comment on the injured wolf; “a problem doesn’t have to reach our doorstep for it to be our concern”, or words to that efffect. Best mom ever.

Very true, but it's like an itch you can't reach😂I've always had a theory that stemmed off of how jormungandr got sent back in time from his fight with Thor. Maybe during Loki's solo journey after Ragnarok, he uncovers how Faye paved the literal path that Kratos and Atreus' walked that ended up being the entirety of both games. Possibly leading to something that could send himself back in time to then use the horn and tell jormungandr something (Iron wood maybe?) But idk if that would even make sense, still whoever blew that horn bugs me to my core😂😂
I think that travel between pantheons is going to feature very heavily soon, and we don't unlock the secret to it until the post game. Namely, Tyr. He was known to have travelled and visited many different Gods, and with him being freed in the post game (for real this time), it seems likely that he will be the key to expanding the world of GoW.

As someone said, the serpent would never listen to the aesir. He almost attacked Kratos because he thought mimir said they were Thor's friends, so it couldn't have been baldr
It could have been baldur using it to distract atreus and Kratos. Baldur was never chasing them anyway at first. He was chasing what he sensed of Fayes remnants. I believe Faye placed parts of her soul in loki and Kratos knives that Kratos says he made. That's why she still shows up to Kratos in his dreams. She's never completely gone. When atreus put fenrirs soul into his knife it pushed the part of Faye out and into Kratos knife with the other part and then Kratos starts having mad visions of Faye talking to him about current events she's already dead for. The jotnar bodies definitely die but it seems that the souls are immortal. Four parts to the soul according to the story. Faye could have put hers into the two knives, the axe, and her ashes hold the last part. Kratos held the ashes the whole time until the end of the game in 2018. Even when he went into the light of alfheim. Atreus might have thought he heard her in the light, but it may have been the pieces of soul calling out while being near the light because that's where the soul supposed to go.
Part of me felt like at least visually the Mask was a nod to the Jim Carey movie since the mask in the movie The Mask was supposed to be Loki's and they even look similar. Does that mean GoW and The Mask are in the same universe? I'm going to guess with like 99% certainty that's a hard no, but I felt like someone in that studio was having some fun when designing it.

1. Sindri's story arc may very well be complete he lost his brother because of atreus's actions it's entirely possible he might not forgive him 2. Personally I like the idea that Faye died of natural causes It's nice to think that kratos was able to spend time with his family without some outside force coming in to take it away

I think the rift is where the Giants are and/or where they get their fortunes from. That’s why Loki had such a connection to it and why Odin was forbidden from seeing what was in it.
If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure Kratos briefly told Mimir how he got to Scandinavia from Greece. He did it via ship, I think they discuss a bit while they tell each other's stories while rowing around when exploring the realms.
I mean it makes sense. In the comics, right after his attempt at suicide, he travelez by boat to Egypt, and even met the god of knowledge Toph there. We can assume he spent some time there before traveling further North, maybe via land for a time and then by boat, would make sense
Also in the Prose Edda, it is stated that the first Aesir gods were soldiers from Troja that left Grece and moved to North. So in a way Kratos isn't the first one to move from one mythology to another.

If you play one of the side missions closer to the end of the game there is a dialogue while you’re in a boat with atreaus where he says he wants to travel. And Kratos says if you do so make sure it’s to somewhere. Have a destination. I think that was slight foreshadowing that the game will be moved elsewhere. Maybe to find the other giants, because angreboda said they’re nowhere in the 9 realms
I know the quote youre saying and i believe its right after broks death. Atreus says he misses the lake being not frozen so they could use the boat and just sail away. Kratos says if you should sail, sail towards something. You could be right but i feel like the message kratos is saying is: if you are going to travel, do so with purpose and not just to run from your issues (like he did in the past)
I understand sindri. The death of my brother broke me. This is the 2nd time brok has died. he kept his brother alive but with only 3 soul parts.. but his brother was still alive. The 2nd time he couldn't save him.
Sindri made mjolnir, which sent the serpent back in time. It seems likely that the only way Sindri could save Brok would be to go back in time or create something that sends Atreus back in time to fix it and that could address who blew the horn, what happened to Faye and nearly everything else.
My personal theory: The hit that Thor did was so powerful to make the World Serpent go back in time. BUT, only a creature of such power could be able to survive the hit and be sent back, a regular person would be turned to ash
I always just assumed the horn call from the first game was Baldur calling the world serpent for information on Kratos. As for how Kratos got to the Norse mythology, I presume it's just regular old travel. After all, Tyr visited many lands with other mythologies too, and the Aesir were aware of Kratos past. So I assume they all exist simultaneously, however avoid crossing into each other's territory.

The third one: In the god of war universe all god pantheons exist in the same plane. Each God only effects the materials of their respective area. For eg. Poseidon only controlled the water bodies of Greece, Thor only controlled the thunder of the nordic country he is in
I know we definitely haven’t seen the last of these characters. Hearing Cory say some of the questions are for future games , makes me think they have a plan . I feel like the next game will be a spin-off .

They said that he just traveled their. Also they made a webcomic before 2018 gow. Where he had traveled to Egypt on his journey after gow3. So the world's all seem geographically connected in some way since he didn't use magic to get from one to another.

Unlikely, she was hiding in the Iron Woods waiting for to play her part in the prophecy, there would be no way that she would jeopardize that by going into Midgard where Aesir gods are actively hunting them. She also doesn't have the means of realm travel pre-Garm/Fenrir, as it's him that rips open the holes she uses later to get around.

@@starkilleranthony no there are 2 different snakes. The one we meet in 2018 and that is present throughout both 2018 and 2022 GOW games has already seen Ragnarok, and in fact comes from the future. The jormungandr that arrives during the big fight outside the wall of Asgard is the snake that Atreus saved from Angrboda's grandma, who has grown big and has a vengeance against Thor. That snake is then hit and sent back in time, but during this, the other Jormungandr, who we have already seen, is chilling in Midgard.
As for question three, that has been answered, there’s comics that detail the events of Kratos’s journey from Greece to Scandinavia, even shows him going to Egypt. Even details his first 100 years in Midgard
I have not read them myself, though I have it on good authority that both Kratos travels from Greece and Faye's death are somewhat explained in the God of War novels. The latter I believe grew ill and died as a result of that illness. I doubt either point will be fully fleshed out in another game, though a casual mention wouldn't go a miss.
This game was FULL of pop culture references. Nobody remembers "The Mask" with Jim Carrey, it was Loki's. The rift, IMO, was a play on Doctor Who and there are soo many others.

@@crumble7598 just imagine something like this: you entcounter thor a second time midway through and discharge him by defeating him in the battle and cutting of both of his hands. Kratos grabs mjölnir and odin safes his son with the ravens. After going back to asgard he uses his magical powers and the knowledge from when fenrir riped of his own arm to grow back thors hands so he can still fight at the end of ragnarök. Mjölnir does not come back to him afterwards since kratos has beaten him in battle and is now the official owner of the legendary weapon. This or something like that could be one of many many ways how they could give us exacat that. The new spear is cool too, tbh. But here i am, a little disappointed tho
1:50 it was Baldur who blew the horn, he revealed it shortly before final fight. Baldur said that he knew, that hurting "big snake" will help him find Kratos and Atreus
I expected more from Faye's story but as far as Sindri goes...that's just how it is. I think his story is complete. He'll now just bury himself in his work.
The freed dragons also raises an issue I had with the final Ragnarok "war". Although there were a few elves flying around, it felt very much like it was just Kratos vs. Asgard. It would have been so much nicer if we saw hordes of the realms flocking through the gates rather than just having the gates destroyed by the laser cannons. The freed dragons could have also appeared here in a sequence, maybe to save Kratos and repay the favours.
I agree. I feel like though this game is an amazing continuation of the last game, it's more of a let down in my opinion. It's more like a new game plus. I feel like GOW4 was a much better game. I was very dissatisfied with the portrayal of Odin. I didn't expect the father if thor to look and act like a weasel.
I would like to see Kratos in a throne as the new all-father but a peaceful one, Atreus as an adult and the God of the giants, a new female Thor and Freya as the Queen of the norse pantheon along aside Kratos, not as his wife precisely but as his partner. Then I would like to see them going explore other pantheons, like that mural from the 2018 game showed.
Honestly i think it will be an invasion to hit the norse pantheon while they are down tbh because that was what was originally planned for GOW 3 with kratos killing Zeus in GOW 2 instead of 3 so why not recycle that idea and make it better
There can't be a "female Thor." Thor isn't a title, it's a name. And besides... Thrüd is dope as hell all on her own. She can become an even better character with enough character development. And an even more powerful and fierce fighter than her father ever could be.

I played the game myself and then watched someone play through the game and while i was watching the playthrough i realized the norns said “focusing on the 2nd act instead of the finale” and i was like wait is GOWR just a second act?
Wouldn't that be mind blowing. I'd have a lot more respect for Santa Monica if they gave us a surprise 3rd episode in the norse saga to tie up these loose ends.. or even an add on would be appreciated

I thought they were referring to Kratos being so focused on saving Atreus which was only the second act of the game while the final fight with Odin was the finale he wasn't even thinking about.
Seeing these unanswered questions in the game, makes me realized that the writers had really compressed such a vast world building into one sequel. It's not that it's bad... it made some important events from GOW 2018 being left behind, particularly Faye. I think there's just too much side characters being introduced here and there, that it's kind of hard to follow where the story wants to go. Maybe it's just me, but it's the first thing I could nitpick about GOW Ragnarok
The story was rushed and you can really feel it in the second half of the game. It also didn’t take any risks. While I enjoyed the over all experience, I just don’t like the Mystery Box type of Story telling that they are doing, cause they never answer the big questions anyway. All the interesting parts got shoved in the background to make space for some cute and intimate character moments. And while I appreciate these moments as well, they are not substantial enough on their own to make it a good story. People love wolfs, we get it..
Sindri is a bittersweet ending ontop of the beautiful endings of faye and the 2, kratos and artreus, kratos's life as a god of war and the end of ragnarok
I'd have to play through 2018 again, but I could've swore there was something that gave away who it was, and I feel like it was Baldur. Could be a stretch too, but maybe even a small possibility that it was Magni and Modi. Could be wrong there tho considering how much Jormungandr hates Thor
Sindri's anger was really a reflection of his own guilt that he denied Brok an afterlife. Such a brutal and tragic ending for his character, but one that fit the events of the story
I get the feeling that will become a subplot in the next game, with Atreus finding Broks soul pieces and putting him to rest. Hopefully that will be the way he makes amends with Sindri.
I feel it also reflected the themes of Atreus’ actions and decisions having unexpected consequences that are shown in other parts of the story.

@@thighcultist5428 It's not about having the "right". Sindri is grieving. He can't control all that guilt and self-hatred. It needs an outlet. He chose Kratos and Atreus as that outlet. And Kratos accepted that role, never confronting Sindri about how unfair it was, because he understands exactly how Sindri feels. Even Mimir says, "don't take to heart words said in grief." They all know Sindri just needs time to see clearly past his grief. Just like Freya did.

I just did this yesterday and it hit hard. I lost my older brother in March and I miss him so much. When Mimir finally solves the riddle and says hole. It's because he recognized there is a hole in Sindri's life and heart that will always be there. I got choked up and no game has ever had that affect on me. @@johnlawful2272he only reason I don’t see that is because they really tried at the beginning to convince the audience that Sindri was in love with Faye, and that’s a reason he was so close and sympathetic to Atreus, he loved Faye and the most he could do for her after her death was care for her son, I’d say his love for Faye is the only thing not making him seek vengeance, he said his plan, he’s gonna kill Odin and then move on alone like how he always did before
At the very end with Sindri he just seemed, broken, not even angry anymore, just so incredibly sad.
You can tell he wants to be angry too. But he just can’t find it in his heart to feel anything but grief.

A side thought. Although he is mad at Atreus and Kratos, he also knows it wasn’t their fault, but can’t bring himself to admit it. Even Freya and Mimir, two people who were with Odin A LOT and knew the real Tyr personally, didn’t even see past his lie. He needs someone to blame/unleash his anger onto, so he initially takes it out on Atreus and Kratos, but refocuses his rage to Odin.
There were also instances where Sindri seemed to hesitate around Atreus after Brok’s death. Like when Atreus offered to help him up the ledge. He stared at his hand for a bit before hitting it away, as if considering to take it. And when Thrud attacked Atreus right after, Sindri went to fight her, but stopped when Atreus told him to. He didn’t have to listen to him. This leads me to believe he doesn’t hate them. He’s very angry, but it’s not hate. Hate means he would want to kill them, and I don’t see him display this kind of behavior. His only real bloodlust is directed towards Odin. And once he achieved his revenge, he just became sad and empty.
When Kratos tried to tell Sindri Brok was his friend, Sindri seemed angry at first, but regained a sad look before long, knowing Kratos did see Brok as his friend. As well as knowing he cut ties with what family he had left.
Freya went through the same thing but he'll come around eventually.
The do answer how Kratos got to the north mythology. He said that he walk and the acrossed the sea
at broks funeral he showed up and he was still covered in blood. thats how you know he was completely broken cause Sindri is a germophobe
Brok’s death may have been painful and sad af. But Sindri’s grief hurt almost the same to see. Such a kind, funny, caring and *clean* person change to be exactly the opposite. He was so nice and now he is dark and bitter. Hel, he even killed some civilians and didn’t give af, and sweer sindri wouldn’t even do that to a draugur
Dude the way the game shows Sindri blip after the brutal moment occurs and how the silence just lingers. It feels like a void opens; sapping all aspect of happiness, leaving only pain and sadness.

To me the hardest part about Sindri was his appearance. He was always so clean, even the thought of dirt made him uncomfortable. And now he just doesn't care anymore. Truly a broken man... I'm rarely moved to tears, but that really did it.
Faye originally found the mask making the connection to Atreus. Explaining all her knowledge on everything and events to come, also her price for using it was a slow sickness death instead of an eye like Odin. She destroyed it and scattered its pieces. Remember Baldur was actually looking for Faye in the first game, probably because Odin knew she had the mask at one point. Faye brought Kratos to the Norse world by using the mask, because he was the only one who could change the fate of their world. Just a fun theory I came up with.
Odin explained that he's the first as a young god who found the piece first (when he introduced the rift to Atreus), also that was way before Faye exist

Kratos got to Scandinavia on his journey to get rid of the blades of chaos as it was cursed and was stuck with Kratos on his deathless misery. A comic book was released after the 2018 game by dark comics explaining his year long journey where he treads through deserts and savannahs looking for the deepest ocean to throw his blades. The comic contains ton more characters and interactions and also hints the Egyptian connection where future games may take place ! Hope this helps ❤🎉
Man... Kratos is himself cursed by the temple oracle marked by his ashy skin..so getting rid of the Blades theory is lausy...he needs to get rid of the ashy skin that would be his true redemption and that would be the point where death truly earns him or vice versa.

Sindri was always about sanitization and keeping clean and when Brok died he clearly never took a single moment to clean himself. His blood still on the armor, his gloves were literally off from then on.
There is absolutely a 3rd game coming and I’d love if it’s Atreus or Kratos focused, but they both have to be there to some extent.
I think an Atreus lead game with a few moments of controlling OP Kratos to show how Atreus is power creeping on him but also because their story threads require each other would be amazing.
Also because the actor for Atreus is so much more grown up now even compared to Ragnarok Atreus it would make for an excellent exploration of an adult perspective of a man’s relationship with their rage-filled broken father, as many of us can unfortunately relate.

I've said this elsewhere, but my theory about the mask and the rift is that it relates to Creation itself and "the higher plane" that Athena supposedly ascended to after her death.

I think Angrboda blew the horn. She's a giant who speaks their language, and she was probably telling the Serpent to let Atreus/Loki know of Ironwood. She knew he would seek answers on his quest, and who better to safely transfer the message, than someone of the same family, who is also of a generally foreign tongue.

That theory may not work; we know the Serpent could’ve just told him Ironwood simply because he remembered that is where Atreus and Angrboda freed him. I think Sindri's story IS complete. He's hurt and purposeless, but he tries/is becoming less angry, as shown at Brok's funeral (he doesn't lash out at Kratos, just looks at him almost crying, but it's an improvement from being hateful). His story ark shows that, as most of the game already shown, revenge will take its toll on people, and will bring death upon people around you. Another victim of Kratos' crusade, albeit not an intentional one.
I'd say he's more of a victim of Atreus' crusade as most of the events in the game are due to his actions
Doubt it, if anything he doesn't lash out on kratos because he realized at the end of the day síndri himself knows he helped atreus go behind kratos in the first place.
Kratos tried educating atreus albeit some flaws, Sindri did help atreus disobey kratos. The ultimate gut punch is Atreus not being present at the funeral. Kratos was, and unfortunately kratos couldn't get to explain why atreus wasn't there. Which doesn't help his case in the slightest.
His gripe was never towards kratos, it's directly at Atreus if there is a spinoff of atreus, no doubt Sindris going to be there.
They willingly Injected themselves to Kratos crusade. Can't join, help, and stay knowing the danger.....and then blame Kratos for what Odin did.

The most impactful thing about Sindri‘s storyline for me is, that we could see how he disappeared twice. Once at Sindri‘s house and another time at the funeral.
Before Brok‘s death the dwarves were always playful with how they suddenly appeared or disappeared in all the different places. It was their biggest secret (at least for me). But now after Brok‘s death, Sindri doesn’t care about it anymore, he just does it very unceremoniously.
He also disappeared right after finishing off Odin's trapped soul after defeating him in the fight.
Not to mention he doesn't care how clean he is anymore, even his hands are always dirty after brok died

I'm pretty sure in number 3 Kratos already told Ratatoskr that he sailed to scandinavia from greece. Also in the press conference of the GOW 4, it was already mentioned the concept on how Kratos arrived in scandinavia is that the land of gods are like kingdoms where in the GOW universe, you can walk, fly, or sail to another land (country) and that land have its own gods or mythology since in the GOW universe all gods and mythologies exist in their land
Plus, Kratos' shrine in the end shows him taking a boat from Greece. So.. not that mysterious anymore.

Odin said "the champion of the jotunar" would be able to see it with the mask. But we learned later in the game that the champion of the Jotunar is actually kratos. I think the rift will play a part in any god of war game here on out. Because they basically spoon fed us that kratos is the one who will learn the important shit.

I think you are misremembering the prophecy. The prophecy stated that the "god of war Tyr" with a spear in hand was going to lead the army, while the champion of the jotunar defeats Odin. We learn that the God of War with a spear in hand leading the army isn't in fact Tyr, but Kratos. I believe Atraeus is still the champion.

Kratos was given a boat by the few surviving lesser members of the Greek pantheon when they asked him to leave. He sailed for a very long time and then wandered Scandinavia for much longer after before meeting Faye.

3. Midgard is (sort of) Scandinavia, just like how Greece in the older games were... well... Greece. Due to the powers of the Norse mythology, Yggdrassil connects into other planes that make up the other Norse realms, while Midgard is rooted in the "real world". Kratos simply walked from Greece to Scandinavia, just like how once Mimir simply left Britain (Alba/Albion) and journeyed there as well. It is why Midgard is the "human realm" while the other realms were inhabited exclusively by other beings until someone discovered how to realm travel.

Jörmungandr is just a big danger noodle in God of War. They call him the "World Serpent" because some say he is big enough to go around the entire world, but that is an exaggeration.
Man, while Sindri's reaction at the end of the game is totally justified and heart wrenching in and of itself... when Mimir finally gets Brok's riddle after he disappears, it just takes that sadness to a whole new level.
Those are the last words in the game before the last credits, and is a great ending to this gow episode

Horn was definitely blown by an older time travelling Atreus on some sort of giant saving mission (which we may see in an Atreus spin off game later down the line).
i think atreus turns bad in the next game and becomes the real god of mischief, He learns information and strays away from his father teachings. Since at the end of GOW Ragnarok, kratos and let him go on to be his own person. Kratos is going to have to fight his son.......Just a theory. Loki's identity in any facet isnt a good person. Sindri is a prime example that not everyone gets a happy ending. They did a really good job of showing through Atreus and Sindri that taking peoples kindness for granted (intentional or otherwise) has consequences. I feel like Sindri’s story getting a stereotypical happy ending with closure with Atreus would just make every point they were trying to make with the situation completely moot
I would like to see how the actual series of events unfolded on the day Faye and Thor fought in the valley. How the crater formed how the frozen thunder formed. The way the spirits reffered to the fight; got me intrigued. This could be a great DLC story.

Mimir mentions they were former dwarves that were turned into dragons, while the ones in Vanaheim were real dragons (and thus less approachable). The dwarven king mentioned in side quests of the first game used parts of these dragons to create his armor.

But yes he did say that he came to these lands (Scandinavia) by boat. But what i am wondering then: does this imply that Greece is part of Midgard? It couldn't be, because there are different gods in each area. Also, Kratos killed the gods in Greece and thereby not only destroyed them, but also the land, the weather, the people...But this clearly did not affect the world in/of Scandinavia.

I did feel the story with the mask and rift was underwhelming, as we follow Atreus to obtain the mask pieces only for him to destroy the mask, so that Odin would not see the knowledge he seeked within the rift. That along with Faye and Sindri is what I hope will be explained in a future God of War game.
It could be good chance it's a foreshadowing the next game.

I even liked the first part more. Especially the ending was much more like an ending.
In Ragnarok one is left with more questions and unsatisfied. Odin and Thor have been defeated but in the end it feels like a third part has to come so that the Nordic mythology can really come to an end.
That with Atreus was really very weak and simple writing, which he suddenly left Kratos at the end.
They were probably faced with the question of whether the two would go together to Egypt or somewhere else, or whether Kratos would rather be left somewhere alone.

I personally found it very stupid and in general it made the giants too powerful that could use such magic but Thor allegedly hunted and killed many (almost all of them).
I think that was kinda the point about the mask, just the mystery behind it and not truly knowing what the mask or the rift’s gifts or price would have come from it, Kratos even said that a shortcut comes with a price, but I get what you mean, I would have liked to known what it was capable of and what would have happened if he put on the mask, but I’m also sure if he put on the mask it would have been fulfilling the prophecy of helping Odin, it would be nice if it comes back up in future games
In the mask starring Jim carry the mask that he puts on was made by Odin and Loki it might not be true to this game but it’s a fun theory
⭐Not linking the mask and the rift to Athena was THE BIGGEST missed opportunity in this game. The story that they couldve been crafted around that couldve have been so epic. The mask and rift even glows the same color as Athena. Odin seeks what lies beyond. Athena literally reached the beyond in the previous trilogy.

At the end of the game, when Kratos sees a second jotnar sanctuary behind the one Angrboda shows to Kratos and Atreus, you can see in the first panel Greece in flames and then Kratos on a boat, so he most most likely fled Greece by sea and happened to reach Northern Europe. Not much info on the travel, but it's better than anything.
I also think that everything in the same world is just playing in different areas. when greece fell, it didn't destroy the entire world but only greece and the areas nearby.
He probably just traveled north and arrived where he was and that's where the Nordic gods and myths rule.
If he had traveled south, he would probably have arrived in Egypt with its gods and monsters.

They don't explain much else in the comic, though. I'm not even sure if it's actually canon, but it's supposed to be official. My guess is, they made it when they were still discussing concepts for what the next game should be like and we're thinking of placing the game in Egypt before they settled for Norse mythology.
@Fuchsfeuer there's enough to confirm Greece isn't in the same realms as midgard and mimor briefly explains that there are realms and there are worlds and the developers said Greece in GoW and midgard are jn different worlds I think the example of different galaxies was used
After the events of GoW3, Greece is ravaged by floods. Kratos discovers that he is incapable of committing suicide for magical reasons, so he leaves Greece on a boat to try and move on with his life. He repeatedly tries to get rid of the Blades of Chaos (they just magically return to him), visits Egypt, some other stuff happens and then he gets dragged to Norway by some wolves and a creepy, old woman. It was explained in a tie in comic.
That's not how he got there. In established Canon kratos was attacked by wolves and physically brought to Midgard by the wolves and a hooded woman
In terms of how he reached Scandinavia, there is a comic book that was created that basically showed that Kratos sailed across the seas. The comic book shows that he crossed a desert also which looks like Egypt in which he saved the local village people from a deadly creature. He then left this area and continued to travel until he reached Scandinavia.
This makes no sense because he’ll be doing Egyptian gods next if they continue the games.

The rift was simply a item of temptation my personal theory is that when the mask is assembled and worn you get sucked in and get all knowledge but cannot leave and the mask was just used for those to drive people who give in to temptation

Detail I noticed about Sindri that I haven't seen mentioned. Sindri wore gloves all the time. Once Brok died he's seen forging without gloves. He's forging with his bare hands.

2. My personal belief is that the mask is a reference to The Mask's "Mask of Loki" and was made by a future Atreus before it is sent back in time by accident or by design. Other than that, I do not believe it has a special connection to him in the game, it's just his innate godly powers of language that helps him decipher the scripts on it.

Sindri’s grief is so painful, but so realistic. I’m glad they included it, as sad as it was, because it shows a real struggle many people genuinely face.
Sometimes a person can only handle losing so much before they have nothing left to lose and they’re left empty and broken. All Sindri has left is regret because he has denied his brother an afterlife. The people he thought he could trust would turn their back on him, like brok did in the old game and like Atreus did when he left to Asgard. He’s so used to betrayal, and that’s why he blames everyone else too when brok dies. The only reason he helped in Ragnarok is because his hatred for Odin, his brothers killer, was greater than his resentment for everyone else.
I really hope he gets a redemption Arc, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get that. Dudes been through a lot of shit.
I was really hoping you'd go over the fact about Odin and kratos had a conversation about God-hood. Odin points out that kratos doesn't know anything about being a God because he's never been worshiped.
How Odin came to this conclusion is Way beyond me because all of his Spartan brothers and sisters loved and worshiped him after he killed Aries.

Because he was never worshipped as a “god” like the rest of the pantheon, he was Sparta’s god and spartas god only, plus they talk to him more like a general or a king than a god.
There’s a really beautiful detail about Sindri’s story that breaks my heart. Raeb’s Lament, which plays during Brok’s funeral, is essentially a revised version of the Huldra Brothers theme from GoW2018. It now signifies and honors Brok’s death, but in a way it marks the death of Sindri too, or at least the version of Sindri we’ve known and loved. He’s a permanently changed man and I wouldn’t be at all shocked if we see him further down the line.

Reading seeing the Sindri footage and reading comments about it makes me tear up. It's been months since I got the platinum for Ragnarök, but I haven't been able to move on from GOW as a whole ever since. It doesn't help that I recently played through GOW III FOUR times, but what Ragnarök did was cement the importance of the franchise in my heart. No story has ever affected me as much as this one has. Since Ragnarök, it has been a constant thing for me, to think about slowly healing from all the anger and grief I have felt over the majority of my life (I grew up in a broken, abusive family). And I also constantly think about wanting to be like current Kratos - more patient, more forgiving, more considerate, more kind towards others. I can't praise the collective story of GOD OF WAR enough. Words fail me, I can't express how much it's all moved me.
Felt man, the story kind of did the same thing for me. I grew angry and bitter over the years because of things that happened in my past and I thought I couldn’t change who I was, but it is not the form of something that matters..

I didn’t expect my heart to break like it did over Brok and Sindri. The music and the acting were incomparable to anything.
I always thought it was Baldur that called the Serpent while Kratos took Atreus to Freya. Balder was still searching for the two of them at the time. Before the final battle, Balder mentions that "harming the big snake" would bring the two out of hiding. As for how Kratos got to Midgar, I suspect the creators intend that to be the story of another hand held game like Ascendant was (and a crappy idea if you ask me.) On Fey's death, I believe she willed herself to die believing she was the last of the giants and knew the prophecy that said her son would continue her work. This is the same fate that the giants met in Jotunheim where Fey's ashes were spread. The giants left their corpses behind. Whether Fey's spirit is in a marble will probably not be answered.

It wasn’t Baldur because 1. He doesn’t speak the language of giants and 2. Harming the big snake line happens wayyyy after this point. And it was when both kratos and atreus were inside the snake.
We have to go by which characters have both presence, method, and motive to call the Serpent. Here's my thought process:
-Eliminate all Norse Gods. The Serpent wouldn't want to speak to anyone related to Thor. I also say Freya for a different reason: she was in her hut under the turtle.
-Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir were too far away to call the Serpent.
-Sindri is somewhat afraid of the Serpent, so he wouldn't call it. I doubt Brok would have any reason to call the Serpent.
-Faye is long gone, even by 2018's standard.
-This leaves Angrboda, but she would've been in Jotunheim.
My theories are as follows:
*Freya called the Serpent to ask about either her son, Atreus and Kratos, or something else.
*Angrboda came from Jotunheim to tell the Serpent to either say or do something at a certain time.
*Brok for some reason.
So either I'm wrong about one or more of these characters, or an unrevealed character blew the horn.
There's a comic showing how kratos left Greece, went to Egypt, helped and then ended up in midgard. They reference a few points from the comic. Made more sense about the blades of chaos and why kratos still has them.
So we could have a game between the original and new set of games, where he's still rage-filled (like the old games) that'd satisfy those who miss the original Kratos while not ruining the character development of the retired God of War?

Mimir said there was no bringing back brok. When he was brought back the first time, he was missing his soul. That’s why the forager didn’t acknowledge him. And mimir said he has no soul so there is no afterlife for him

As a side note, the shrines are always in chronological order. Atreus says that the shrines show the past, present, and future of the person who is the subject of the shrine. It's presumably always in that order.
It showed his as a monotheistic god so it makes me wonder which religion he goes after next? Islam? Christianity? Maybe even Irish paganism. That would be awesome with the mythical creatures the Irish believe in, the Morgan the fairy courts and what not.
If Atreus is seeking Giants then he may just be headed into Celtic mythology, or even Egyptian mythology. But I feel like Celtic mythos blends better with Norse since they’re related, and in real history the vikings came to the UK in search for a new homeland with better farming lands.

Fun fact, right before arriving in The Nordic lands Kratos was in the lands of the pharaohs by accident for a bit, he then met Athena again and oddly the Egyptian god if Wisdom
But the Norse never ever got a hold of the Celtic mythology. The closest and actually older than theirs is the Germanic mythology.

@@PerfectionistWM Thor fought Faye in Vanaheim, they also created the Frozen Lightning there similar to what had occurred during the fight of Kratos and Thor in the beginning of the game. That's why he said it was "familiar". Thor was drunk when he fought Faye that's why his memory is blurry.
Thor didn't react to the axe (except to note the frozen lightning seemed familiar) because he was a constantly drunk arsehole for most of his adult life to try and deal with how his father had always treated him. In the bits when he gets more characterisation he repeatedly says he tries not to think about what he's doing when Odin sends him to do some bullshit. On top of that, he may not even know (or care to know) that the axe is unique.

As much as I would love to see Sindri find purpose again, sometimes these kind of arcs just....aren't happy ones. He lost everything near and dear to him. And it further displays the consistent themes of vengeance, grief and the price of war that the games love to show. He deserves to be happy, but at the same time.....that isn't how it always works. And I think the game ending on this note makes it feel more grounded in reality instead of just a solely happy feel-good ending.
Borrowing from your idea, i would assume sindri would share the same fate as fafnir(a dwarf that became dragon), and you know the fate if sindri does become a dragon.
It goes well with how things always never go better or only consequeces matters more than intent. But at the very least it will give sindri a (bitter, but reassuring)closure.
Seeing how many questions are left unanswered makes me so excited for any future games

I believe Faye moved on of her own accord. Meaning she had the ability to decide when she died. Not so much as suicide but more like moving on. Knowing that it must happen to begin kratos and Atreus’s great journey.

Faye paid the ultimate price for changing destiny, making the ultimate sacrifice for her child. Throwback to when Faye and Kratos comment on the injured wolf; “a problem doesn’t have to reach our doorstep for it to be our concern”, or words to that efffect. Best mom ever.
In the final cutscene with faye talking about grieving she is shown with veins being particularly blue which i took to mean sick/poisoned.

Maybe during Loki's solo journey after Ragnarok, he uncovers how Faye paved the literal path that Kratos and Atreus' walked that ended up being the entirety of both games. Possibly leading to something that could send himself back in time to then use the horn and tell jormungandr something

I think that travel between pantheons is going to feature very heavily soon, and we don't unlock the secret to it until the post game. Namely, Tyr. He was known to have travelled and visited many different Gods, and with him being freed in the post game (for real this time), it seems likely that he will be the key to expanding the world of GoW.

As someone said, the serpent would never listen to the aesir. He almost attacked Kratos because he thought mimir said they were Thor's friends, so it couldn't have been baldr
It could have been baldur using it to distract atreus and Kratos. Baldur was never chasing them anyway at first. He was chasing what he sensed of Fayes remnants. I believe Faye placed parts of her soul in loki and Kratos knives that Kratos says he made. That's why she still shows up to Kratos in his dreams. She's never completely gone. When atreus put fenrirs soul into his knife it pushed the part of Faye out and into Kratos knife with the other part and then Kratos starts having mad visions of Faye talking to him about current events she's already dead for. The jotnar bodies definitely die but it seems that the souls are immortal. Four parts to the soul according to the story. Faye could have put hers into the two knives, the axe, and her ashes hold the last part. Kratos held the ashes the whole time until the end of the game in 2018. Even when he went into the light of alfheim. Atreus might have thought he heard her in the light, but it may have been the pieces of soul calling out while being near the light because that's where the soul supposed to go.

Part of me felt like at least visually the Mask was a nod to the Jim Carey movie since the mask in the movie The Mask was supposed to be Loki's and they even look similar. Does that mean GoW and The Mask are in the same universe? I'm going to guess with like 99% certainty that's a hard no, but I felt like someone in that studio was having some fun when designing it.
The mask is actually originally a comic made my dark horse comics. Which interestingly also made a series of comics based on the god of war series.

I think the rift is where the Giants are and/or where they get their fortunes from. That’s why Loki had such a connection to it and why Odin was forbidden from seeing what was in it.
If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure Kratos briefly told Mimir how he got to Scandinavia from Greece. He did it via ship, I think they discuss a bit while they tell each other's stories while rowing around when exploring the realms.
I mean it makes sense. In the comics, right after his attempt at suicide, he travelez by boat to Egypt, and even met the god of knowledge Toph there. We can assume he spent some time there before traveling further North, maybe via land for a time and then by boat, would make sense
Also in the Prose Edda, it is stated that the first Aesir gods were soldiers from Troja that left Grece and moved to North. So in a way Kratos isn't the first one to move from one mythology to another.

If you play one of the side missions closer to the end of the game there is a dialogue while you’re in a boat with atreaus where he says he wants to travel. And Kratos says if you do so make sure it’s to somewhere. Have a destination. I think that was slight foreshadowing that the game will be moved elsewhere. Maybe to find the other giants, because angreboda said they’re nowhere in the 9 realms

I understand sindri. The death of my brother broke me. This is the 2nd time brok has died. he kept his brother alive but with only 3 soul parts.. but his brother was still alive. The 2nd time he couldn't save him.

Sindri made mjolnir, which sent the serpent back in time. It seems likely that the only way Sindri could save Brok would be to go back in time or create something that sends Atreus back in time to fix it and that could address who blew the horn, what happened to Faye and nearly everything else.
My personal theory: The hit that Thor did was so powerful to make the World Serpent go back in time. BUT, only a creature of such power could be able to survive the hit and be sent back, a regular person would be turned to ash

I always just assumed the horn call from the first game was Baldur calling the world serpent for information on Kratos.
As for how Kratos got to the Norse mythology, I presume it's just regular old travel. After all, Tyr visited many lands with other mythologies too, and the Aesir were aware of Kratos past. So I assume they all exist simultaneously, however avoid crossing into each other's territory.

The third one: In the god of war universe all god pantheons exist in the same plane. Each God only effects the materials of their respective area. For eg. Poseidon only controlled the water bodies of Greece, Thor only controlled the thunder of the nordic country he is in
I know we definitely haven’t seen the last of these characters. Hearing Cory say some of the questions are for future games , makes me think they have a plan . I feel like the next game will be a spin-off .

There is no mention of a mask belonging to Loki in the original Norse mythos, but the mask of Loki is a thing in The Mask franchise of Dark Horse comics.

so basically angrboda collected the giants souls in marbles. What if she wanted to talk to jormungandr and ask him whether he wanted to hide in a marble. However, jormungandr refused because his hatred towards thor was so great that he really wanted to fight and kill him in ragnarok

The jormungandr with a Thor beef was probably the other giant whose soul was put in that snake by Atreus and angrboda, think about it even kratos and Atreus mentioned that jormungandr was different in that last battle, the snake they put that giants soul into probably grew bigger cox of the soul and his name was also jormungandr , the original jormungandr was probably resting somewhere else…..just a theory
Unlikely, she was hiding in the Iron Woods waiting for to play her part in the prophecy, there would be no way that she would jeopardize that by going into Midgard where Aesir gods are actively hunting them. She also doesn't have the means of realm travel pre-Garm/Fenrir, as it's him that rips open the holes she uses later to get around.

@@starkilleranthony no there are 2 different snakes. The one we meet in 2018 and that is present throughout both 2018 and 2022 GOW games has already seen Ragnarok, and in fact comes from the future. The jormungandr that arrives during the big fight outside the wall of Asgard is the snake that Atreus saved from Angrboda's grandma, who has grown big and has a vengeance against Thor. That snake is then hit and sent back in time, but during this, the other Jormungandr, who we have already seen, is chilling in Midgard.
As for question three, that has been answered, there’s comics that detail the events of Kratos’s journey from Greece to Scandinavia, even shows him going to Egypt. Even details his first 100 years in Midgard
I have not read them myself, though I have it on good authority that both Kratos travels from Greece and Faye's death are somewhat explained in the God of War novels. The latter I believe grew ill and died as a result of that illness. I doubt either point will be fully fleshed out in another game, though a casual mention wouldn't go a miss.
This game was FULL of pop culture references. Nobody remembers "The Mask" with Jim Carrey, it was Loki's. The rift, IMO, was a play on Doctor Who and there are soo many others.
Id highly doubt that a main part of the story would be a reference to The Mask

@@crumble7598 just imagine something like this: you entcounter thor a second time midway through and discharge him by defeating him in the battle and cutting of both of his hands. Kratos grabs mjölnir and odin safes his son with the ravens. After going back to asgard he uses his magical powers and the knowledge from when fenrir riped of his own arm to grow back thors hands so he can still fight at the end of ragnarök. Mjölnir does not come back to him afterwards since kratos has beaten him in battle and is now the official owner of the legendary weapon.
This or something like that could be one of many many ways how they could give us exacat that.
The new spear is cool too, tbh. But here i am, a little disappointed tho

I expected more from Faye's story but as far as Sindri goes...that's just how it is. I think his story is complete. He'll now just bury himself in his work.
The freed dragons also raises an issue I had with the final Ragnarok "war". Although there were a few elves flying around, it felt very much like it was just Kratos vs. Asgard. It would have been so much nicer if we saw hordes of the realms flocking through the gates rather than just having the gates destroyed by the laser cannons. The freed dragons could have also appeared here in a sequence, maybe to save Kratos and repay the favours.
I agree. I feel like though this game is an amazing continuation of the last game, it's more of a let down in my opinion. It's more like a new game plus. I feel like GOW4 was a much better game. I was very dissatisfied with the portrayal of Odin. I didn't expect the father if thor to look and act like a weasel.

I would like to see Kratos in a throne as the new all-father but a peaceful one, Atreus as an adult and the God of the giants, a new female Thor and Freya as the Queen of the norse pantheon along aside Kratos, not as his wife precisely but as his partner. Then I would like to see them going explore other pantheons, like that mural from the 2018 game showed.
Honestly i think it will be an invasion to hit the norse pantheon while they are down tbh because that was what was originally planned for GOW 3 with kratos killing Zeus in GOW 2 instead of 3 so why not recycle that idea and make it better

I would LOVE a prequel which takes place in the events before GOW 2018. Beginning when Kratos leaves Olympus, to when he meets Faye, Faye's endeavors, and ending where 2018 begins.

Cool little Easter Egg. The Mask starring Jim Carrey actually belonged to...... Loki. I love how in the game it flashes green instead of that latex look. But yup!
I assumed they left a lot of these questions unanswered on purpose, the horn and the rift will likely be answered in a future installment and Sindris arc will be fulfilled later down the line

I played the game myself and then watched someone play through the game and while i was watching the playthrough i realized the norns said “focusing on the 2nd act instead of the finale” and i was like wait is GOWR just a second act?

I thought they were referring to Kratos being so focused on saving Atreus which was only the second act of the game while the final fight with Odin was the finale he wasn't even thinking about.

Seeing these unanswered questions in the game, makes me realized that the writers had really compressed such a vast world building into one sequel. It's not that it's bad... it made some important events from GOW 2018 being left behind, particularly Faye. I think there's just too much side characters being introduced here and there, that it's kind of hard to follow where the story wants to go. Maybe it's just me, but it's the first thing I could nitpick about GOW Ragnarok
The story was rushed and you can really feel it in the second half of the game. It also didn’t take any risks. While I enjoyed the over all experience, I just don’t like the Mystery Box type of Story telling that they are doing, cause they never answer the big questions anyway. All the interesting parts got shoved in the background to make space for some cute and intimate character moments. And while I appreciate these moments as well, they are not substantial enough on their own to make it a good story. People love wolfs, we get it..
