Even when he was jumped by 6 armed dudes and beaten to near-death, he still won and described the experience as merely annoying. None of this even mentioning the fact he impressed the enemy so much that they release him and his soldiers from capture! They actually admired him. That is pure Mary Sue energy and you cannot argue otherwise! I don’t even know what you’re talking about with resurrections. The fact that he did all this without needing to be resurrected is even more of an argument for his Sueness. The only reason he’s a fleshed out character is because it’s real life, and he cannot have it any other way. I've been looking for just the right thing to say, and will probably screw this up but here is my attempt. TFE is an awesome treasure as an educator. But he is only delivering honest history in a way that is enjoyable, which actually makes it fun to learn. He's not making it up, it is totally real and in a way that we all can relate to. SO, question #1 is why don't more "teacher" use this method? Question #2, There are many more stories like this, that should prove that we all are closer together, but they are never published or shared like TFE did for Cassius. We are all Americans pulling in the same direction. This is a huge army on You tube, can we go find other similar stories to help bring us all together? TFE is just a country Cracker that is an awesome human being. I SOOOO wish I had a history teacher like him, I might have gave a shit in school.
Honestly, Cassius Clay is the living embodiment of why I hold the 2nd Amendment as an unimpeachable principle that all human beings are equally entitled to. Though I wish it on no one, there may come a day when any one of us will be under the threat of those who oppose us so fundamentally that they want nothing less than for us to die in order to get out of their way. When that day comes, don’t be like a sheep to be slaughtered. You are not prey. You are a human being. Arm yourself, and give those who see you as little more than an obstacle a 9mm rebuttal.

Literally the guy that goes into a gun fight with just a knife and _still wins._ It's even crazier that he lived into old age. Nothing could stop the man except for the natural aging process and even that took a good while to take him down.
@@brothersgt.grauwolff6716he lived dang near a century, way longer than most of modern humanity, and he did it while in constant duels, having his life threatened six ways from Sunday, surviving a near-death experience that woulda killed your average Joe Schmoe from the 1800’s (or even modern day let’s be honest), got slavery abolished before the turn of the century, and is basically one of the major reasons America isn’t as nearly as much of a chaotic mess as it could’ve been without him.
@@DG_Toti If anything, it just makes me super happy that he lived long enough to see his dream get achieved. And, fuck, not _only_ that, but it wasn't just any regular dream either. Cassius Clay is the scariest and baddest lawyer/warrior duelist of all time. There's a reason Muhammad Ali's og name was Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. God damn I love this guy. Please watch more of The Fat Electrician. He is a real G
Oh man, we learned about him here in TX. He was very important to the Republicans in freeing the slaves. We even took a field trip to his home in Kentucky that is still maintained. Muhammad Ali soiled his name, which is why many schools no longer teach about Cassius. Herman and Cassius clay gave him the name Cassius clay Jr. To uphold the abolitionist name. And her said Why should I keep my white slavemaster's name visible and my black ancestors invisible, unknown, unhonored?" And then chose a very non-black name
Also fun fact: black slaves were the minority. The slave trade originated when Muslims enslaved Slavic people, which is where the word slave is derived from. The vast majority of slaves around the world were Irish, Chinese and English. Also, the civil war wasn't over slavery, it was only a small part after the fact. It was over the secession of the Confederacy from the United States to try and create two separate countries. Most American slaves were actually Irish, and there were black slave owners. Irish slaves built the White House. They weren't captured from Africa, either. When African tribes conquered rival tribes, they enslaved them for labor or to eat them. They sold them to other countries for trinkets as small as watches or foreign coins. All in all, it's great that slavery is gone, as it's an abhorrent practice, but it still heavily exists in Africa, with the current minimum number of 700,000. It's sick. Maybe one day everyone will be free.
I don’t think there has ever been a single human being to have more completely embodied the notion of “honor” quite like Cassius Marcellus Clay did. His words were honorable. His behaviors were honorable. His intentions were honorable. His goals were honorable. His methods were honorable. And as a result, his life, as a totality, could be described as nothing less than honorable. He is what it means to truly be a great man.
and it was all because of one speech in his teenage years. I might honestly give an arm and a leg to go back in time and hear that abolitionist speech for myself just to see how it hits
Having read more on Clay after watching the Fat Electricians video I imagine his reaction to his would be assassin was also in part because he thought he just got shot and would die. Why we never heard of Cassius Clay because Kentucky and the Bible belt aka the confederate states all decided to erase all influential people who aren't part of the confederate southern ideals
Its not that suprising that the bullet was stopped by a metal sheath, it was most likely a black powder pistol and depending on how much powder you load into the barrel will determine if itll stop or not, the rounds were also pure lead and soft when heated so, mixing slow projectile with soft material kinda adds up lol
Fat Electrician's is how you teach history. I personally recommend his videos on Chief Joe Medicine Crow, Van T. Barfoot vs the HOA, and America's Underground Cheese Bunkers.

Hot take: CC is not taught about because the man used freedom of speech and violence with the right to bear arms to achieve abolishing slavery, rebelling against both the tenor of the times as well as the government itself, and teaching that to people is too dangerous to the establishment today. So they suppress it by not teaching it to anyone ever.
I’ve loved the story of Cassius for a few years and I’m so happy you finally know it. You’re dad is a fucking GOAT btw for teaching you to look up authors and shit for even your textbooks. I’ve said before I used to be very different from how I am now politically and just in my world view. Actually looking into who your information comes from is incredibly important. Love this channel already from this one video, and not sure if he covers him but I 100% recommend looking into Thomas sankara and the history of Burkina Faso. He had some bad takes on sex work and other things but he’s one of the more inspiring figures in history. That and if you don’t know about fred Hampton and the black panther party (later rainbow coalition) you need too
It's great that you are so positive and optimistic in the face of something like cancer. Not trying to be sappy, but you truly need to never give up. The human body can do some crazy things under the placebo affect.
Oh yeah, the human body is an amazing creation, willpower and drive are enough to keep you going even after losing a lot of your body, even under a lot of open injuries, but a lack of will can cause a perfectly healthy person to just fall off the mortal coil without much obvious cause. Alicia seems to have enough willpower and drive to keep a dozen people healthy, and that's hella inspiring.
Your speech on education, I love it! I grew up quickly realizing that concept, cause of all the gaps missing when teachers taught anything I went and looked stuff up un my own. I was already that kid that read dictionaries for fun,so Learning on my own is a skill I had .

Hell yeah, Quackbang! Bonus points for picking the Cassius Clay episode, Alicia. I'm a Kentuckian myself and Clay is an absolute hero around these parts. Super glad to see you reacting to this.
1) In Cassius Clay’s house, which is a museum you can tour, is a plaque commemorating when he met with a foreign dignitary named “Mohammed Ali,” which is what inspired the boxer (who had converted to Islam) to change his name. 2) very few sources still talk about about Russia’s role in the U.S. civil war. It was actually quite significant in keeping other countries from stepping in on the side of the confederacy. 3) Lincoln only reluctantly made the war about slavery as a strategy, so without Cassius Clay there might not have been an end to slavery until sometime after the Civil war ended. 4) The “come and take it” flag with a cannon on it was inspired by C. Clay’s stance against slavery in general, but also his resistance against the sheriff at the end of his life. He actually had a cannon at his house “to deter mobs.”
"Why he setting this up like it was the Looney Tunes?" Nah, dude. He's the PIONEER of the Looney Tunes. Cassius Clay outdid Teddy Roosevelt's quote from the turn of the century 60 years prior: he spoke loudly and carried a fucking canon. Bro was no joke. Lol!

People underestimate the importance of critical thinking and intellectual curiosity- not just accepting what you're told at face value, and not just accepting that what you're told is the end all and be all of what there is to learn. You note one of the biggest issues here- information is always colored by the perspective of the person sharing it, so when you hear what they are telling you, it needs to be with the caveat that their analysis may be colored by both unconscious bias and willful manipulation in service to an agenda. Every writer enacts an editorial agenda, determining what information to include and what to exclude, and there is a whole lot of the world that gets left on the cutting room floor, especially when it comes to things like textbooks. That is why schooling cannot stop with the classroom; instead, that must be the basis for starting to learn, and hopefully it will encourage people to go out and seek out more information.
The Fat Electrician started on TicTik, but his videos kept getting brought down. So he started a TH-cam channel. His early videos were under four minutes original, and their are some gems in there

Extra note; freeing slaves could actually be more difficult than you'd think. If you owed a bank too much back then you wouldn't be allowed to free any slaves, you'd have to pay the bank bank the value of the slave before you could think about freeing them. So not only would it cost Cassius Clay in value given up, he would have to be completely out of debt to do it. If you owned banks money they would not allow it. White Hall is a really pretty place to visit, they maintain it as a museum and there are reenactors around the property to show how life was then. There is a lot of Cassius' old stuff there, including a pair of cannons, and they decorate the place for various holidays in the style and with decorations from the era. It's free to visit the grounds, tours of the house cost money but it's not too expensive.
The confusion about the Brits and France not recognizing the Confederacy is understandable. Most people, especially in the USA, don't know how the Brits were actively looking for ways to affect the outcome of the Civil War. They were making ships for the south, but they had some funky details to them in that the Confederate sailors had to take possession of a ship when it was out to sea to prevent being obvious in their assistance. They didn't fear the Union, but they feared the Russians as they actually had ability to wage war on England and France. Keeping them 'neutral' allowed the Union to maintain its blockades of southern ports, preventing any large amounts of trade cargoes from coming in and out that would have given financial benefits to the South.
13:06 Remember, pistols back then fired big, slow bullets that were entirely made of soft lead. So a metal knife sheath, with a knife inside it, would easily stop a bullt. It's lucky that Sam Brown happened to shoot it, though.

So Cassius Clay didn't get mush historical play, because the the majority of the Abolitionist movement was Quaker, aka pacifist, as were many of the people writing the histories. So Clay proving violence was the answer didn't sit well. They often avoid talking about Lincoln's violent duel filled past.

Absolutely love the Fat Electrician. The man was an electrician in the Army then got out. He does a lot of military history, talking about various groups within the military, and some kickass pieces of equipment. My favorite may be the 11b (Infantry) video he does, but that may be because I was in the infantry. Though the best is by far his video on the USS Texas, which I highly recommend you watch, to show just how scary the US military can be to our enemies. On a side note, what you said about how you learned so much resonated with me. My grandfather was a genius, a polyglot that had seen the world during WWII, he could have been an English teacher, if he wasn't an introvert like me. From my earliest memory, he worked for our local newspaper as the advertisement editor (I was even a Gerber baby!). He taught me how to read, I was reading books on dinosaurs and could spell words like Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, and even Saurolophus at the age of 3. He would read the morning comics with me every day, and I grew to love comics in general. I even started my own comic series... until I reached the sixth grade and realized I was not an artist in the slightest. I kept the stories though. I love to read, but I love writing even more. I kept my stories and expanded on them, all because of him. I understood more about the world because of what I was able to read. I understood how old the books I was reading were, and who the authors were. I read everything I could get my hands on, cover to cover. School didn't teach me anything other than how to be annoyed by people in general, lol.

They didn’t destroy his printing building while he was sick by pure coincidence. They did it because they recognized he was better than them and they couldn’t win in a fair fight.
That is why Major-General Cassius Marcellus Clay is the closest thing to a Mary Sue (or the male version, “Marty Stu”) we had on this here earth!
P.S: If you want to learn more about what makes a Mary Sue a Mary Sue, I’d recommend Overly Sarcastic Production’s Trope Talk on the subject!

Cassius Clay is the scariest and baddest lawyer/warrior duelist of all time. There's a reason Muhammad Ali's og name was Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. God damn I love this guy. Please watch more of The Fat Electrician. He is a real G
I remembered when I did a report on Cassius in highschool, my other classmates loved it but my teachers did not. What I learned, learn on your own.
Fun fact: Ulysses Grant was an abolitionist. It's in his personal diary how much he hated the trade
Can't be understated how based Grant was
Also fun fact: black slaves were the minority.
There's a lot of gigachads in history, and this is certainly one of them.
This man unlocked speech 100
Fun fact: The Fat Electrician is an Army veteran.

Clay basically proxy-bullied three suprpowers into a deadlock and made sure the civil war stayed internal and did not cascade into a global confligt

Btw context for the whole British and France being threatened by Russia thing. Both Britan and France were missing their cotton from the south and wanted the war to end asap, they kinda cared about the slaves but not enough to not support a rebellion that was all about keeping slaves. At the time as well Russia had one of the strongest armies I believe
Fat Electrician is a treasure. He started as tiktok with short 2-3 minute clips. He had to get as much info in as possible and no mid-roll. Then he added those to YT as backups. Then he got some sponsors and following enough to make some longer videos. It's been cool to see him grow as a YT channel. Start back at his earliest shortest links. They are some of his most witty and he made a lot of t-shirts based off the little comments and utterance in those. They also explain why his little duck logo explodes and why he sometimes calls himself quackbang.
*Cassius Clay being born*
God: *granting him plot armor* "You're about to do the funniest thing."
This man being the too rough around the edges guy behind Lincoln. I am genuinely terrified to learn about the too rough around the edges behind Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson. If there really is one behind every well known politician
Cassius Clay really did have God and Anime on his side. Motherfucker got a cool backstory and plot armor. They say everyone is the protagonist of their own story but standing next to him you realize your a god damn side character or even worse. . . A non-animated or CGI background character!
O k, I'm, like, 90% sure that Cassius Clay was secretly a crossbread honey badger and Wolverine in a human suit, dude.
the gigachad meme was created for this man alone.
Cassius doesnt have that dog in him, he got the whole fucking pound.
Cassius LITERALLY comin in with plot armour!!! HES the protagonist!
Dude, yeah, Nick delivers info at a BRISK pace. One of the coolest aspects of his channel is that he can relay a topic succinctly without coming off as lazy or impatient.
Good stuff ❤
At this point in society, we have every single piece of information at our fingertips, but most of the time, we only see the worst parts of the world, so our modern viewpoint is the most depressing in history and it's only getting worse because the worst part is that this ain't the worst it can be.
You absolutely should see The Fat Electrician's video on chicken-powered nuclear landmines. Trust me, you'll love it.
Im not sure how interested you are in military history, but the mosquito video is one of my personal favorites
Does anyone else find it weird that 2 years before his death, Theodore Roosevelt became the President of the United States?
Bro’s life sounds like an anime fr
I live right down the road from Whitehall State Shrine it's still open for tours I'm pretty sure. Seeing that staircase in person and picturing a cannon perched at the top aiming down at intruders is some gangster level shit.
Just discovered you today. I gotta say, your positivity, especially in the face of cancer, and your immense appreciation for people of good character is quite inspiring.
I would highly recommend some of his older videos or even more of his newer ones. Very informative and very funny. Especially the USS Texas, or the sr-71, or even his newer one about the mosquito!
