I changed my Tacoma 2016 off-road with 102k miles for a fully loaded Frontier 2022 Pro-4x. It’s a quieter smooth ride, the seats are really comfortable (Tacoma seating position is terrible) no more numbness or back pain even on long trips, better acceleration, and getting better mpg (the best I have gotten according to display 26.5mpg need to confirm). I agree with your comment about the frontier wanting to go in a straight line (even in windy conditions) and that’s something the Tacoma didn’t do well since suffered from crosswinds. Overall really happy with the truck and I got to say it’s fun to drive.
Yea I have a 2017 taco, access cab. The seating position and gutless drivetrain has become a real issue to deal with, and the transmission tuning is just awful. I’m starting to seriously look into a pro-4x as a replacement. Hardest choice is between tan, green and grey lol.

What a great Real life review from knowledgeable “real “truck people. What a mid size truck is expected to do is tested right here. Thank you truck Kin Crew👍
Great review. I think if we are being honest, more than a few people who own trucks rarely think about the payload sticker, they just load it up (I know I did when I had a B2300 back in the 90's)
I’ve liked the Frontier since from the first time I saw it. It’s a great looking truck inside and and out. I love it’s power train and the ease it handled that trip with, only makes me love it more.
Nissan for many years has been the most realistic about their trucks capabilities regarding towing and payload. Not good for bragging rights or catching sales but the trucks typically do well with what they are rated for. Please do this same test with the same weight in a Tacoma.
First, Sorry for my English. We had an accident the Christmas Day and our SUV was done. We wanted replace by a truck but during the truck shortage we only find a pick up Frontier 2022. Because there is no longer a CVT transmission in this model, we bought it. My husband and me are very, very, happy about our new truck.
Really like the fact that you can load stuff in the bed without a ladder! This is something I hate in my Silverado, the damn thing is so high! I'm seriously considering going back to a midsize and going back to a frontier even more after that review! Good stuff once again! :)
That’s one of the main reasons I got a pro4x. The full size are getting ridiculous. If I was still in masonry and needed to haul pallets of cement and block around, a full size makes sense. But a quick trip to the Depot for some random house/yard projects, the mid-size works fantastic
I went from a Frontier to a Ram and I couldn't use the bed anymore. I actually hurt my back trying to heave stuff up onto the tailgate of the Ram... now I have a Grand Caravan. The low floor for loading is incredible. I'm eyeing the new generation of Frontier, again.
Awesome review of real life situations…esp with the gas consumption concern these days…just waiting for my Frontier to arrive-very excited! Thanks also for the kind remark about the Hammer!
I did like my 06 Frontier with same engine but it struggled too much when towing a 2000 lbs Travel trailer uphill. This new 2022 woud be great for my need it appears. Waiting for the new Tacoma next year before making final decision.
Can't speak for the new Frontier, but my wife LOVES her 2019 Pro 4X, and even better she paid $15,000 less than what the new ones are going for. haha. Yes, and that was new, with Premium Pack. Good Luck getting any deals now a days🙄
You can still get pretty good deals on Nissans over the competition we just bought a new rouge 3k under msrp and im looking at a titan that is listed 8k under from nissan of cookeville.
I bought the Pro4x and love it. Perfect for running around town picking up supplies, handles the winter weather perfect, and if I want to run up to a campsite. I have a full blown built 91 Jeep Comanche on 37’s, lockers, upgraded diffs, motor, steering linkage, etc to go run the Rubicon. Plus a Freightliner for any heavy hauling🤣. The Frontier is a great all around daily driver that hopefully will last me a few decades or more.
Great real world review. Less than 12 l/100 km in a Frontier is outstanding. Fully loaded? It's a miracle! My 2018 doesn't get below 13. Usually burns about 14 to 15 l/100 km. Then again, mine is carrying a few hundreds of added weight with a fiberglass cap, a Decked system and a bunch of hardware.
I had a 2004 Nissan Titan king cab SE 4x4. The payload was 1640 lbs. I used to pick up a pallet load of wood brick fuel that weighed 2000 lbs. many times. That weight plus my 215 lbs. put it at 2215 lbs. I was 575 lbs. overweight but the Nissan handled that with no problems. It never bottomed out and felt pretty good on the road. Although you knew you had heavy weight back there power was never an issue either. I never checked the MPG but due to the fact that the Titan got pretty bad gas mileage empty I bet it was probably in the single digits.
Just to add on the GAWR is also to be considered when maxing out payload. When Frontier pricing becomes more competitive I’ll be looking at the sv version for the payload as I need the most. That fuel mileage is also a good incentive. Can easily live with hydraulic steering. I have done it all my life.
What is the estimated weight of that load, I have the same trim and thinking of loading it with a slide in camper. The manual says specifically no to do so.
Thank you for giving us a whole lot of idea about the 2022 Pro4X. I hope you can do a towing test with a travel trailer with 5000LBS loaded. We bought our 2022 Frontier Pro4X for our 4500lbs (loaded) Travel Trailer with 3700lbs (unloaded). Thanks and hope you do more video. Really enjoy watching and learning more from your video. Keep up the good work👍👍👍👍👍God bless you more my man. Just subscribed😊and recommend to my friends

One of the reasons I like the frontier, loaded rear when doing work, it's very confident truck while driving, also even at slow speeds I don't really feel the difference in turning the wheel, doesn't feel heavy lol.
Thanks for a great review. I have a 2017 Pro-4x and find the same (straight line tracking when fully loaded and towing). Could it be that Nissan over engineered the frame and suspension for these trucks? I believe so. They really are a great all around midsize truck and I am extremely happy with mine 5 years on. I envy the better fuel mileage of the new engine though, especially with gas prices now.
As an owner of a 2021 Titan Pro4x, it is a great tow vehicle. I think Titans and Frontiers are as you said " over engineered" but sad part is most people don't buy the Titan. Everytime I get it I'm amazed by it and also how little Titans are sold. Shame.
The Frontier Pro4X still impresses, thank you for the review,. But I still prefer my '20 Ranger Raptor. Nevertheless, using mats is a good idea but becareful they could easily get dirty because of the sticky surface, and it will be a helluva work for you to load and unload them. Good luck my friend.

That “little” overloaded GVWR will get you tickets in some states and provinces - it is black and white. Not to mention, it can cause an accident. Try driving that overloaded payload through mountains or bad weather - it’s the emergency situations that will get it in trouble, not cruising through beautiful Hamilton.
It's mostly luxury features that absolutely decimate payload ratings. Panoramic sunroof is one that comes to mind as being the most pronounced. They are super heavy.
The Maverick has a greater payload than the Frontier, Ram and F-150 you recently tested as shown in this video. Maybe it really is a “truck” after all.
I am a huge Toyota fan but I think the 4 litre v6 was better than the newer 3.5 litre. The torque characteristics of the 3.5 is too hi in the Rev band.
This engine debuted in the 2020 Frontier of the last generation. Nissan did it right. Instead of releasing an entirely new platform, they put a new powertrain under the old truck. I have heard nothing but positive things. The biggest being fuel economy. When you can knock down 20 mpg carrying over 1k pounds in the bed in a 4WD truck, that's just flat out impressive. The biggest thing is no forced induction. I will never own a gasoline-powered pickup with turbos or supercharger as the physics of them drastically increase engine wear. Turbo diesels are a different animal because they don't experience the added heat and back-pressure.
I’ve dealt with my lemon of a 2019 Tacoma for 3.5 years and it’s only getting worse. After analyzing and assessing, it’s getting the boot. Not going to look back. Way too much shop time, 2 too many yow truck trips, too many items replaced, now that it’s out of warranty - I don’t trust it. I’ll never own another 3rd generation Tacoma. Their 22MY suffered from many of the same issues I’ve been experiencing with my 2019 during test drive. This updated/ revised Nissan is on my short list.
Great stuff and informing on payload and tow load on any vehicle from pickup 🛻 to cars, to even yes motorcycles. Should always follow the recommend guide line on this stuff. People and drivers forget over weight on payload and towing on G class vehicles and M class rules still apply to them also ,just like commercial vehicles and licences. It’s stated in the ministry of transportation of any province in Canada and in some states in the USA.If you cause a collision due to your improper weight and towing abilities you will be charged and fined under the traffic act.Plus your insurance may be denied for compensation of damages. And if it’s a newer vehicle that under manufacturers warranty, they can and will deny your coverage if something breaks due to under stress of the vehicles capabilities. Some thing to note on that.
how does that frontier only have a payload of 1000lbs. my 2000 nissan frontier stock has a 1400lb payload, and with what i have on it, it can carry 1900lbs easy
Newer trucks all have crazy low payloads. Same with the Tacoma TRD trims. Just over 1000 lbs. The fast lane truck tested one and shared the low payloads. It's all the wires, gizmos, and other tech features that are robbing the truck's paylaod.
It's partly for the sake of a smoother ride that most casual truck buyers demand, and partly because an off-road suspension is softer and longer travel than a HD suspension.
You know Stephen, when you gave up your weight at around 300 pounds, well you made me feel not so bad about myself. With added weight, resistance to hi winds becomes a huge advantage. I imagine you are this mountain and I am betting your wife is 5 foot and weighs 100 pounds dripping wet out of the shower. It happens so often...mountain of a man and a tiny bird feather for a wife. I thought a second ratchet strap may have been prudent for the rubber mats. Maybe I am OCD.
20 MPG fully loaded is very impressive.
That is real good actually.
Use Lucas oil stabilizer and you will get 2 to 3 miles a gallon better Guaranteed

"lovely" Hamilton? hehehehehehehehhehe yeah okay
Absolute BS that the base trim on most hold more weight makes no damn sense
@@keithpassthewhiskey8323 yeah and with all those gizmos its more things that can break so ill stick with my old truck until it dies
It's partly for the sake of a smoother ride that most casual truck buyers demand, and partly because an off-road suspension is softer and longer travel than a HD suspension.
He looks 100 over so if he lost 100 lbs. his payload would go up.
Mf doom truck !
