if one is going to be a hero better be that way in screen too, nowadays people want better script, better twist and turns,with the kind of exposure that they get,movies and series people watch.
see the films that have failed for big heros in recent years? All films that had too much unwanted sentiments.
Few big heroes are stuck in 1980 -1990, 1990-2000 era sentiment, comedy screen play and scenes itself.
One shouldn't repeat a scene unwanted, most often it becomes monotonous.
If all the so called big hero if unable to match the screen requirements better don't act, stop acting, don't waste producers money
Big heroes are seen as big inspirations by most, so better they that way.

If it is the audiences who can judge if the movie is good or bad - why can't the producers get a sample audience of say 100 people from different walks of life and make them watch the movie when the first copy of the movie is ready and then incorporate the changes suggested by them before the movie hits the theatres. It may involve additional cost with re-shoot etc but it will be compensated by a more confident release of the movie in the theatres. I feel that is a pro-active method of ensuring success. If the sample audiences say the movie is too long get the editor's scissors to work overtime and trim the movie. If the sample audiences say the movie is too serious and lacks humor shoot a comedy track and attach it to the movie.
Many big studios like AVM used to do this, where they would bring sample audiences from different areas to watch the movie. Unfortunately, most producers working in the industry today know very little about cinema and do not consider these things. They take massive loans and mortgages because they want the glamor of being a big-time producer, knowing absolutely nothing about the craft. And 99% of them go bankrupt.
Some times sample audiences judgement also fails, for example AVM & Kamal's Sakalakala vallavan most of them told movie is not good, but the movie is huge hit, but your idea is good it will works 90%.

Yes, AVM used to do this for almost all their movies. I heard in another Chitra sir interview that the producer wasn't happy with visu's Samsaram adhu minsaram. He showed it to his employees and their families and everyone loved it because its about their middle class life. Sometime producers and directors could lose touch with the audience. This is what they must do...
In today's world the story leakage is so high. It is not possible to do all these stuffs. Only thing they can do is send the scripts for multiple reviews to different consultants. Athaiye panna maattaanga
