you can b e 59 or 29 or 18 years old and this music will last to us who love it. too bad we dont hear it any more.do u remember driving down the road with the radio on playing this music.
There are so many folks that long for County Music to return to it's roots. This is an example of the classic music that many of us grew up listening to. I have always loved it and have performed this on the nursing home circuit for decades. Now in my seventies, I have come to appreciate this style so much more. Makes me want to polish up the Martin, call up the boys and do it one more time!.
From the notes of the late Shannon Burns. The dark haired girl over the right shoulder of Carl is Sherry Moyer, the first female country drummer. Her mother wrote the song, Don't Let Cross Over. Just a little trivia from one of the greatest writers on you tube music vids. We all miss you Shannon. RIP.
These songs have helped me through some of the saddest months of my lifetime. They've been a great comfort to me. Lost my mom in July to COVID. She loved music like this very much. I think of her every time I hear it, then I 5:40 cry. Forgive me, RIP Mom.
I enjoy listening to Mr. Mrs. Pearl and Carl Butler. It appears that they're playing in the famous Opera House in Nashville, Tennessee! I love their outfits they are wearing!
With the things there letting in the Hall of Fame today it would be a disgrace to Carl and Pearl. There needs to be 2 Hall of Fames, one for great country singers of the past and a trash Hall of Fame for what their letting in now.
What a great duet, harmony that you don't see anymore, heck whole songs that you would never hear today in this so called modern country. I know what they could do with it and where they could put it if it was up to me. Nashville has sold us country lovers down the river. Thank goodness for music like Carl and Pearl sings.
Dolly Parton didn't like Carl Butler very much...if I remember the story right, he told her she had to sing louder. Now she just about owns TN. But this is just about his best with Pearl, his wife. I remember when the song originally aired...we were watching it...have always loved the song. How you like those matching 'Nudie' suits? Classy.
One of the if not the greatest forms of singing came about through country ! The perfection of male and female harmony ! ... my o my ..how we have fallen !.
before dolly and porter' before johnny and june, before george and tammy, ther was carl and pearl ,the best country duo of all times. should be in the hall of fane!!!!
Don't forget Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris-they are over looked but great. They're right up there with Porter and Dolly.Check out We'll Sweep Out the Ashes in the Morning, which was done first by Carl and Pearl.
I cry when i hear these great couples of country music.Nowadays no more of this music.I drive down the road with no radio on.do you remember the radio with all that great music.
My mother and I saw them at a concert in the park in Nashville in the 1970's .. it's a fuzzy memory at this point.. but now that my mother has "crossed over" to heaven.. I try to remember the good times we had
We had a tall stack of 45's in Northway Alaska in '65, this was one of them. My mom and dad brought them when we moved there from west Texas. I was in second grade. There was no tv, and I think the AM radio picked up like two stations. I must have played those 45's a thousand times. Great memories, real country music, not the "city and western" they call country now.
This music reminds me when I was growing up in Oklahoma. Just before the Tv station would come on the air early in the mourning they would.play this kind of music. Brings back.memories of people I knew back.then.
I guess you thought all those black guys you fought alongside were zeroes. My brother and a lot of your brothers are on a wall because of liars like LBJ and Richard Nixon. And a lot of those "patriots" dodged the draft while YOU and others fought over there. And we are not even going to mention Agent Orange and the VA's neglect that has extented DECADES.
@@rolandmiller5456 LBJ profited from the war. A war that was never fought to be won. Nixon got us out of the war. Eight years with a socialist, four more with the mindless socialist. Do you love socialism?
Great music , great memories. It takes me back to the days of Smokey Rogers on XERB booming up the west coast from right next to the Rosarito Beach Hotel. It broke my heart when that 50,000 watt border blaster changed formats and went with Wolfman Jack in the early 1960's.
One of my favorite songs, and Mr. & Mrs. Carl Butler have the best version out there in my opinion. Carl had such a divine voice, but adding Pearl's voice at the perfect right times makes this version fabulous. Thanks for posting this video that amazes me to see them them as they appeared on television back in 1963 or 1964! That is what my photographic memory keeps telling me cause I was just a kid & started learning to sing the first song (Their first & only #1 true country hit) in this video. I remember thinking that with those matching colorful outfits that even Webb Pierce might have been jealous, especially of Carl's gorgeous suit. LOL! Thanks for the work you had to do to put this 1 magnificent post on TH-cam!
Written by Helen F. Adams. She wrote this number one song, Set Him Free for Skeeter Davis, Mrs. Ralph Emery, and trucking Song Widow Maker for Jimmy Martin, among many others. Her daughter Sherry went on to become the first successful woman drummer in Nashville.
thx for the informative info. its always great knowing the background. Carl and Pearl are awesome. Too bad we do not hear more on radio. Pure country. They also recorded the original " Sundown In Nashville" great tune recorded by another country great Marty Stuart.
After listening to Carl and Pearl sing this great song, listening to anyone else singing it is like eating week old corn bread in month old buttermilk, lol.
Try comparing this with what passes for COUNTRY now, then tell me which is authentic Country Music. The folks on Music Row were convinced that we didn't like all those cheatin',lying , drinking, and killing songs. Guess what? THEY WERE WRONG! This is the real thing filled with soul and aimed right for the heart of the listener. If nothing else has made me wish for a Life Do Over, Country Music like this sure has!
I'm only 59 but I love this old country music
you can b e 59 or 29 or 18 years old and this music will last to us who love it. too bad we dont hear it any more.do u remember driving down the road with the radio on playing this music.
True Country Music, not the trash of today.
I'm an Aussie and totally agree.
YESSSS, WE DON'T HAVE NO MORE, GOOD COUNTRY MUSIC. THESE NEW SINGERS, KILLED IT VERY VERY BAD.
It don't ever get better than this. Ever

Pure country. Nothing like it being played on today's radio.
You got that right nothing compares to Carl and pearl butler
Yeah, eh? This sure does put the "grand" and "ole" in "Grand Ole Opry"
Very beautiful wonderful Country music singers love their voice just sounds great fantastic and that is my favorite songs.

Thx so much for trivial info. IMO, these two were country music. Amazing singing on beautifully song. The best pair in the era.
Did she also play on the West Coast ? That girl's nickname was "Peaches." Actually met her before she died. Just wondering...

The new country singers should watch this performance--this is what country music is
Wow I was 11 when this song came out. Brings back memories. I bet they were wonderful folks Don't know much of their private lives.
Dolly Parton didn't like Carl Butler very much...if I remember the story right, he told her she had to sing louder. Now she just about owns TN. But this is just about his best with Pearl, his wife. He gave her good advice about the singing. I miss those old days of the 60s My mother use to sing that song in the house as she worked.
@@jondoes8222: How cool is that!?

Man..Country music certainly has taken a different path since the 60's & 70"s.
And not for the better
Totally agree.

Was beginning to suffer in the mid 70s until it became ill then revived in the 90s for a while and then ......
Yes, and NOT a good one.
Love this song. Amazing singers.
One of the if not the greatest forms of singing came about through country ! The perfection of male and female harmony ! ... my o my ..how we have fallen !.
Pitchfork: It seems like they just learn what they can in the garage these days. Harmon absent. (I'll give Little Big Town a B+ for effort though).
yea, we have reached bottom of the barrel these day's
Beautiful! They don't make country music like that anymore!
Jimmy Fritz hhy
Look on the bright side, Jimmy--thankfully, they don't make suits like that any more either!
They don't make upright, honest, God fearing men and women like Carl and Pearl anymore.
manuel, Nudie Cohn's apprentice, continues to make them. You can have a new Nudie Suit if you want one
We are proud to have preserved Carl and Pearl Butler's home in Franklin, TN.
