What a story. Real good country music.
I consider myself pretty avid fan of old school country, but these folks, and their story, were off my radar. I will spread the gospel now. This is such a wholesome and at times heartbreaking story. It deserves to be told, and most importantly, they deserve to be listened to. I love it.
I recall when I first heard "Don't Let Me Cross Over". Gram Parsons using the phrase "Cosmic American music" came to mind. I said to myself, "Well, I'm not sure what Parsons meant, but for me, this is it."
Hats off to you Bradley Reeves for this insightful, and well crafted documentary. Thoroughly enjoyable! You have a voice for radio AND a face for film! Look forward to more from you and East Tennessee team.

Love the Butlers, have since i was young when my family visited Opry yearly . Saw Butlers there, had their records, tapes for yrs. Pure country, long overdue for CMHF. Compliments to creator/ writer of this documentary. A very good video, love it. Much better than some i have seen of others or of the Opry itself. Thanks for posting this 😊
Thank you for sharing this. I played guitar backing Carl and Pearl on a show in Knoxville in the early-mid 1980's. We had no rehearsals, had never met, but I knew their material. They treated me like family.

I love their music today. They were the best. The songs, Harmony best of any duo. They did. It get the acclaim they deserved. Keep their music alive. So sad they had to lose the farm. They were the best in my book.

That is what you can call the real country music is LENGENDARY FASMOUS music to continue to listen.very good music.i started to listen country music at age 12 yrs.old .I would say wow very beautifully music in those years.
I appreciate this heart heart touching story about Carl and Pearl. I always loved the song Don't let me Cross over . I did not know anything about the wreck he involved in. Because of this story I have a much greater appreciation for Carl and Pearl. Thank you so much!
One of the best country Gospel albums ever made was Avenue Of Prayer by Carl and Pearl Butler. I like that hard-core, pure country sound.
I wish someone would just record pure traditional country music with the sound of the late 50's and early 60's.

What nice costumes they wore. I used to watch them on TV in the 60's. I think they really loved each other. After Pearl died, Carl only lived 4 years. I am sure he really missed her.

Yea, east Tennessee. My grannyand her kin ate from back ip that way and born in 1902. Her. amily made the 1790 census in Nashville so i reckon they knowed a holler. The only roots in my heritage. Thanks much again

One thing for sure. Current 2023 these current muzos will not be remembered because they have no songs no country ingredients just a big noise. Those guys/gals back then knew how to sing play country music. 💕🎶🎸👍💖
I know it won't happen: for a couple decades I've lobbied for Carl & Pearl in the CMHOF. They made no apologies; when Big Music was pushing a Nashville Sound, they delivered classic country. Columbia was far more interested in Bob Dylan. SUNDOWN IN NASHVILLE hit hard, I saw no future in our kind of country. Thanks, I'll do my best to visit the Exhibit and pay respects.
