Man, I've been trying to find more photos and or videos from this line more in Fresno, its haunted me for ages now. Been trying to find something from downtown to its turn north on Clovis ave for years now.
Born in 1958 and by the time I started to go to Friend in the 70's the tracks were there along side the Friend road but that was all. I never saw a S.P. freight on the Biola line either.
My dad was a switchman on this train me and my brother rode to work with my dad a few times from Clovis to Friant in the mid 50s I was around 10 at the time I remember tooting the Whistle and turning the engine around at that turntable
Loved your post. My family lived below Friant dam in the 1940s and one night my two older brothers were with friends in the city of Friant near the dam. When it got late and they were ready to walk home, their high school friend asked the engineer (switchman) if he would give my brothers a ride and drop them off in front of their home about 1-1/2 miles from the dam. He said okay and gave my brothers a ride, stopped the train in front of their driveway and let them off. What a spectacular life! Couldn't do that today.
Man I wish that old railroad line was restored and put back to service so I can see trains pass by without any problem Back in 2014 the railroad was still active before 2018 or 2020 they destroyed the old railroad tracks and turned it into a trail

Didn't know that Fresno hade steam in the 70
Amazing Footage. :)
Is there any more footage of this line?
I found a video that shows from the 50s the sugarpine railroad lumber company leaving Pinedale I'll see if I can post it!
It's called " The Sugarpine special " from 1931'

I saw it. Thanks for telling me it exists :)
No way, the dam is in the background. The dam was not there until 1943.
The railroad was in operation until the 1960's
Something seems wrong with having an SP locomotive sound like Strasburg 90...
