Just finished it... what a journey. The writing and worldbuilding is superb, not a single boring sidequest that did not have a good narrative following it, nothing a la "gather 10 chicken eggs", the characters were memorable and actually interesting, one can tell that they really tried to make a great experience and in my opinion they succeeded, despite the not-so-big budget. I was looking for a good RPG and am I glad i decided to buy it. (I also totally agree with you, i started as a mage and switched towards Sword and Gun later, felt much more enjoyable)
Its a labor of love by RPG fans. They blend Dragon Age, Witcher 3, and Fable into a unique setting that is honestly refreshing. After following this team's progress, they can challenge the great Poles at CDPR within the decade with just solidly excellent content.
This game was thoroughly enjoyable, I enjoyed the story, the combat, the companions, the character development, and the fact that it could lead to so much more in potential, with the lore its created. Ofc there were some parts i didn't like, as in, a lot of copy paste moments, like monsters and buildings, but hopefully with this game, the studio earns a lot, and can then develop a sequel with adding a tonne more of ideas. 8/10 i would give
I’ve put over 20+ hours into this game. And honestly I haven’t disliked a single part of it. Even the prologue, yes it may have been boring to some but I did enjoy taking my time and doing every single thing before leaving for the “main” area. It gave me a mass effect 1 vibe with its exposition and introduction of all the factions. While it’s combat and some of its controls could use a bit of polish it is never the less a really enjoyable game for what it is. And I would recommend this game to real RPG fans. With the way game companies are going with battle royales, “MMO’s”, looter shooters or just plain old FPS games, single player RPG games like this are few and far between. This game is great and I love spiders for making it.
It was a slow start but I enjoyed the game very much. Your action really have consequences: I made a stupid mistake which almost ended my game 25% in, fortunatelly I could go back to a previous save and fix it. A real rpg, a few flaws and glitches but simply amazing it was made by such a small team. We need more games like this.
I agree on the most part, but there was something that made me really angry at the game. I generaly play on the highest dificulties, so long as there are no extremely limiting characteristics (ex. Permadeath). Now this game, i like the combat. A lot. But what i didnt like, was the fact that enemies have a laughably small agro distance. And if you leave thata area, they INSTANTLY heal and deagro. There's nothing more frustrating that accidentaly stepping back too far, after a tough fight with some mobs where you used items and potions, only for them to instantly heal like nothing happened. The second thing that annoyed me, albeit a lot less, were the facial animations, but that can be forgived since the voice acting was really good. All in all, good experience, but I suggest you wait for a sale if you want to buy it.
I also hated all those combat scenarios they put you in, in small rooms inside buildings were you have you, your companions, and six other guys who can hardly take two steps to the left or right and you are expected to all fight and swing swords in such a confined space, it was just ridiculous. But still like the game lol.
All in all, i'd say that for a small studio game they did a pretty good job. It's unique and intresting. But it didn't fill my TES shaped hole in my TES shaped heart :(
I bought this one on complete random , it did not disappoint, the longer you go at it the more you want to finish as to accomplish it's narrative. As in finish your own narrative as best possible then .start over again!
Been playing the game since Friday. Put 15 hours in and have been really enjoying it so far. I like exploring. I like the companions and the diplomacy and decisions work really well and they have their weight in the game. It's definitely not perfect but I support these games and I hope the developers can do even better on their next game. Seems like a good franchise and definitely has room to grow. If you enjoy story based games I recommend it.
I agree with pretty much everything you said about Greedfall, although I did like the prologue, I especially like the fact that your companions seem to react to little things you do, like 1 of them suggested going down a left path as it was quicker, so I did and as we wandered down it they commented "thank you for listening to me"...which was nice. Really enjoying it and I'm glad I bought it.
back udog I agree! I really enjoyed the companion banter, wish there was more, obviously but the bits that we did get were always enjoyable and it really made me think about who to take with me when I go to certain areas
I drunk-bought this game Friday night after watching your last few vids. In fact, I've watched you play more than I have played at this point. 😅 I enjoy the story and gameplay so far & look forward to many more hours of fun. Keep those location & quest guides coming for this title ESO! Thanks a million.
I’m about about 15-20 hours in. I watched the complete prologue before I bought it. Some of these enemies can really kill you fast. I’m really enjoying it. But I wish the talents and attributes were given more often. Fast travel is interesting. I wish there was more ammo available. There are lots of things that could be better. But over all it’s a great story so far. Looking forward to uncovering more of teer ferdee ‘s secrets.
At first I wasn't sure when I started playing the game and I thought there was to much side quests but every time I finished one the next one was better. 18 hours in later I'm completely obsessed with the game and I play every time I can 😂
Dang thought this game would be like Dragons Dogma, which kinda sorta is? But pretty lackluster looking magic & combat compared. Dragons dogma i think was super underrated unknown rpg that more people needed to try especially if you like games like the witcher or dark souls. Obviously it had nowhere near the graphics, story, or polish that dark souls or witcher had but the combat made the game worth every penny. Giant boss fights, many combinations of classes to play as, no holding your hand through the game, etc. Etc....aaaah makes me wanna go play it again, good times
I agree with pretty much everything you said except the sneaking. I did take intuition as a magic user for the other benefits though, and sneaking also required to go through those wall cracks. Maybe this is why I didn't seem to have any problems. And for NPCs blocking doors, I've never seen NPCs move out the spot as fast as they do in Greedfall if you need get past. But I enjoyed it, I actually finished it while doing all the side quests, and companion quests in addition to the main. Mods are already coming out for it, interested in seeing how much people are able to change. If combat can be spruced up to be harder, and more interesting reward choices made, I might be able to do another playthru at some point.
Ok did any of y'all read this review ( NOT BY ESO REVIEWE ) Some ding bat sat there and literally Whinned and crayed about how the game made them think of what happened to American Indians and over cultures and so they didn't likethr game basically because it made her have feelings. Seriously it is a bad part of Human History but if we don't think about those things how can we ever learn from thses things. It reminded me of those reviews of Call of Duty were they didn't like it because it looked real. 😂😂😂😂😂 Sorry about this rant but I fi3 if any group of people would like it it be y'all. Great as always ESO.
This game had me hooked with its side quests even some of Witcher’s side quests were very boring tbh also I didn’t mind the talking tbh by the time you leave the tutorial section you understand stuff
Definitely worth the buy considering such a small team worked on it, also the fetch quests were never boring, has some flaws like most games but a great game
In the Magic tree the dash ability upgrade really improves the melee with the ring because you can lunge at enemies from a distance it is really satisfying. It may not be the best magic but being Shadow man is pretty cool
I’m well into the game at this point and I just came across the governor dude from the beginning intro, not cousin, and he was floating above his chair during a chat scene lol. My only complaint thus far that really bogs it down is the continuous back and forth and traveling for certain quests. I literally had to travel from a native camp to the top floor of the palace then run down to another apartment then back to the camp. I really wish they would have left the option to travel directly to the building or camp after exiting a building like they did for the Bridge and Theleme quests in the prologue instead of having to run to your house then travel with the load screens then travel back then run up and down the palace. It was really only that one quest where it was a major problem or was the most noticeable but still they already had the solution implemented in an early part of the game so why not keep it. I know, open world and adventuring, but I’m just saying leave the option for us to choose to travel immediately or take our time. Everything else has been really enjoyable
For a game developed by only 40 people on a non-AAA budget, it is an amazing game. Better than a lot of actual recent AAA titles in fact. Personally, I like all the talking and questing in the prologue although I imagine it would get tedious on subsequent play through. I also like easy combat because I am a largely incompetent gamer :D
After spending around 40+ hrs on the game, I agree with the overall sentiment of this review. I really liked it overall, and they did the best a small independent studio can do, which is accomplish a lot with relatively little.
IMO, this game is good. It isn’t great, but it is fun. If you go in expecting the Witcher, or Dragon Age, you are going to be disappointed. The combat is like The Witcher, without the complexity. The story is pretty good, and your decisions do affect gameplay. It’s not one of the best games I’ve played, by far, but it isn’t a game I had trouble beating.
Loved the game! But was a wee bit disappointed with the lack of female clothing options, like would have liked a wider range of clothing for my character coz u can see other characters wearing interesting clothing but can’t get them for ur own look. I play as a female but not from choice she dresses like a man. I’m probably being greedy adding thing but some of the other characters in game have accessories like earrings or hair adornments would be cool if we had that in like a barber add on or something 🤷🏻♂️
please if you like Greedfall and havent played Dragon Age, do so. Or vice versa. And if you've plaid either, please give *Jade Empire* a try. It's by Bioware and it predates DA and ME but it is genuinely one of the best games they ever made. I'd describe it as Dragon Age but with a Chinese mythological setting with combat based on martial arts and magic.
Did you ever play technomancer? It's very similar to that. Both good games but would have preferred both to have an extra 6months to a year of development. Hopefully this gives them the money to make some polished sequels! Combat in both games is almost identical and needs an overhaul.
Great video! It can be entitled "A Comprehensive Initial Guide to Greed Fall." This video shows that Greed Fall is an amazing game with great potential, but there are some adjustments that developers can make. Really clarified me a lot about the game that, IMHO, is an awesome game. Thanks.
Glad this game is doing well and getting some support with most games of the "triple a " variety either being a soulless sequel cash grab or full of b.s micro transactions and loot-boxes we need a healthy robust "double a " echo system. Picking this up in October thru Amazon to play before Medi Evil and outer worlds come out.
Great game I usually play skyrim, Crees or ESO I got this cheap to try and love it. Magic and weapons is defo the way to go. Love the politics and different factions. Hours of fun thanks for the review it helped me make my mind up.
i love this game. Never before were their times that i could hate on faction base on certain characters actions only to another set of characters to redeem the faction to some degree. it has its glitches and problems but its a powerful gem that can only be improved on. my recommendation to improve it, give some patches to fix the lip syncing and re-texture the cities and maybe a few big dlc's. other than that i think a strong start of a game series
I'd say this game is similar to KOTOR 1 with the combat system of Jade Empire. To me it seems that armor reduces the damage magic does. I always do more damage when removing all the armor of an enemy.
As for charicter skills I focused on maxing out charisma first as well I'm supposed to be a diplomat and I've avoided many fights and brought peaceful soultions to situations that quickly could have devloved into a open combat. I need to add more stuff to my skill set but I'll say I'm very happy with what i focused on first.
The boring part sounds fascinating! Different people like games for different reasons. Some play, like myself, play for the story/meaning. Similar to the reasons that someone might read a novel.
yo eso u don't need to put 3 points into crafting there's a blacksmith that u can pay in new serene that has crafting lvl 3 so with a bit of gold u can get all the armor upgrades.
I think that this has a good chance to be the best game from a new company this year remember Morawin was made by a team of around 40 people in the days when they cared about quality before Bethesda became a meme generator "it just works"
I've really been enjoying this game. Every time I pick it up again I get this warm fuzzy feeling like I'm playing a lost Bioware game that some how fell under the radar. I've also recently been replaying the Witcher 3 so it's really nice to compare the two with fresh eyes. I find the story of this game more interconnected with the side quest which gives me the feeling I am not setting aside the overall plot for the sake of lengthening the game. I always found Wild Hunt has this narrative dissonance where you're supposed to be stopping at nothing to find your daughter yet can put this on hold and do a myriad of side quest that plays little to no role in the overall narrative.
The combat does feel like dark souls with unlimited stamina, however all they need to do is add a stamina bar for fighters and give mages a short distance teleport and have that consume MP
Sure the game has its flaws but nothing game breaking and they are easy to ignore if you keep in mind that this is a small budget game. I'm at level 18, enjoying playing as a fighter mage and enjoying the story so far. Curious to see where it leads and really loving the fact that the quests are well designed and meaningful, I don't just feel like an errand boy like in most games. I sure would love to see what Spiders could do with a bigger budget but it's undeniable that they're getting better with each game they release. Glad I ignored the picky critics and bought it.
pro tip. do not invest your points into crafting at all. there is a craftsman at new serene that can do it for you for added price, so just loot everything you can instead and you will have no problem crafting anything you desire
Greedfall may have its flaws, but it's one of my favorite RPGs ever. I just wish the game had more content(side quests/post-game content) and possibly an option not to have a posh voice/be royalty.
You're my goto guy for rpgs eso, other TH-camrs opinions just aren't relatable to mine.... If that makes any sense. Uh, some don't express enough of what they think of this game's rpg mechanics That's pretty much what I meant to say 😅
It's got it's flaws and bugs but that's typical first game syndrom for a new IP I'd love to see a sequel fix those issues. This game is more what I expected out of a Fable 2 then what Fable 2&3 actualy were! It's a decent game that's fun with an intresting world and seting that could easily be expanded upon but, it's got a lot of rough spots in it's UI, exploration and combat that need some improvements. But Spiders has something they can work with here.
Slow start that opens up later is kinda Spiders staple, it happened with Technomancer and Bound by flame maybe you could play those as show the improvements they've done will definitely get greedfall
Its easy but he only Plays Far distance with magic make sense, and in the same time he sat magic is overpowerd its true its not dark souls but its not easy
all games have flaws and bugs. this isn't a big studio. Its worth it. I truly believe spiders have finally reached a good ground and now maybe can blow up like CDPR did.
Major flaw - enemies health reset and walk away from combat at a certain range from their starting point. Meanwhile you stand there wounded, just wasted a bunch of ammo and potions, and time. But I do like it more as I play.
Personaly I found Magic more enjoyable then phyical attacks as I hated geting paried and haveing to destroy armor to even damage a foe! I'd usaly use my magic up switch to my hamer for a while, while my Magic recharges to save potions then switch back if not everything attacking me is dead yet. I do agree with diversifying your charicters to an extent when it comes to combat. Don't go for one thing or everything I pick 2 and stick with them! My build is basicly a spell slinging battle mage skiled with heavy 1 handed wepons like hamers and axes a masive difrence from the normal sword weilding hero of most rpgs. I leave the swordplay and sharpshooting to the members of my party and I find a good chemistry between my team going because of it though I plan to eventualy master everything but I'll probably speck into explosives next after I master magic and 1 handed heavy wepons.
I started a gun wielder but started start over because they were slow and relaying on inconsistent ammo drops were annoying. I've enjoyed the magic use though.

And then at the 30 hour mark, the game glitched and corrupted its save files.
Blacksmith gloves plus friendship with Kurt an one point of crafting gets you full t3 crafting.
Completed it, about 50 hours. Just couldn't stop playing it. Very addictive. Can't wait to try new approaches to missions and combat.
But it didn't fill my TES shaped hole in my TES shaped heart :(
This is what’s putting me off
GameSpot gave this a 5/10 which means it's definitely a hardcore RPG and worth a buy!
I bought this one on complete random , it did not disappoint, the longer you go at it the more you want to finish as to accomplish it's narrative. As in finish your own narrative as best possible then .start over again!
I agree with you the beginning was slow and the combat felt janky af at first too but now I’m about 15 hrs in too and I’m personally loving it
Most of the reviews I've seen (including yours) are saying the same thing. Basically "overall a good game with flaws". I'm gonna buy it.
Yeh I’m a fans of this game, it’s not perfect but I am finding it really fun I would recommend. 7.9/10
This game is fucking amazing. Reminds me of an old Bioware game.
If the company were bigger, this game will be big
If the company were bigger, this game will be unfinished and cost full price
MaxFire77 how much was it?
$40
MaxFire77
I was thinking the same when I read the comment lol...
BUGthesda!!! ='D
I'll be picking up Greedfall tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time to release a great in-depth video of the game. Rock on!
I hope they add more post credits so you can see the consequence of your choices, beyond that I don't regret preordering it
This video pretty much made up my mind i was on the fence about it but now i think ill get it
I like politics lol I'd love the prologue
I put 41 hours into my first play through. So personally I'd say the game is worth it. It feels a lot like an old Bioware game, flaws and all
My favorite channel by far for RPGs.
I wanted to buy this day 1 but decided I needed some video reviews before throwing my money out this. Definitely considering it though.
Darksouls doesn't have a good story what so ever u brainlit
That talking with npcs part is very similar to We Happy Few game, you can only really say hello and they walk on.
A little poison on my blade and let's go!
Move away it's about to get dicey!
Got it for 20$
I'm like 5-6 hours in and I'm hopeful, the feel of the game is good but it lacks in availability of skills.
Ok did any of y'all read this review ( NOT BY ESO REVIEWE )
Some ding bat sat there and literally Whinned and crayed about how the game made them think of what happened to American Indians and over cultures and so they didn't likethr game basically because it made her have feelings. Seriously it is a bad part of Human History but if we don't think about those things how can we ever learn from thses things.
It reminded me of those reviews of Call of Duty were they didn't like it because it looked real. 😂😂😂😂😂
Sorry about this rant but I fi3 if any group of people would like it it be y'all.
Jump if they just put jumping in it would be so good.
Amazing how people can differ. I actually enjoyed the prologue and then the more the game went on I felt that there just wasn't "enough"
After spending around 40+ hrs on the game, I agree with the overall sentiment of this review. I really liked it overall, and they did the best a small independent studio can do, which is accomplish a lot with relatively little.
If you max out your friendship with Kurt you only have to put two into crafting, because his special gives you a piont.
I already bought it on release, love it tho
I'm about 7 hours in and really enjoying it. Spiders did a really good job considering they're a small developer.
I agree...we should ask spiders
Greedfall is definitely an enjoyable game. It's limited budget and team does show through at times, but I'm having a ton of fun.
please if you like Greedfall and havent played Dragon Age, do so.
Thanks for the review!
Picking this up in October thru Amazon to play before Medi Evil and outer worlds come out.
gosh I love the introduction in sérène
I got this game yesterday and besides the few flaws I’m absolutely loving this game, spiders did a good job despite being such a small company
Dragons Dogma is amazing.
I'll buy.... when the price drop
3 videos in one day?👍
The amount of ads in this short video is obnoxious
It's pretty good for a game made by few people I'd say
Been on the fence about this game. Think I will wait till it goes one sale. Thanks!
pro tip. do not invest your points into crafting at all. there is a craftsman at new serene that can do it for you for added price, so just loot everything you can instead and you will have no problem crafting anything you desire
I actually found one spot where some guards tell you that that spot is off limits.
yup their are a few
I’ve watched you for 3years
Greedfall may have its flaws, but it's one of my favorite RPGs ever. I just wish the game had more content(side quests/post-game content) and possibly an option not to have a posh voice/be royalty.
You're my goto guy for rpgs eso, other TH-camrs opinions just aren't relatable to mine.... If that makes any sense. Uh, some don't express enough of what they think of this game's rpg mechanics
That's pretty much what I meant to say 😅
The answer is yes. Your welcome.
But Spiders has something they can work with here.
guns are the most op thing in this game i think
Thanks to your review I am really enjoying this game. You made a valid arguments. Great filler while we all wait for ES6.
Love to see a build vid!
Slow start that opens up later is kinda Spiders staple, it happened with Technomancer and Bound by flame maybe you could play those as show the improvements they've done will definitely get greedfall
I’ve been playing for about two hours and I still don’t know who the merchant congregation are XD
You owe me a new phone... I smashed the subscribe button and broke my screen...😭
If you send me a video as proof of you YEETING that subscribe button with a hammer with the strength of 10000 suns i will buy you a new phone.
@@ESOdanny Lol thanks for all the great videos man!!!
I decided to get this instead of Code Vein... Waiting for it to download... I'm excited about it
"It's extremely easy to dodge" as he's getting attacked and not dodging.. yeah.. I can almost see how that's effective.
Its easy but he only Plays Far distance with magic make sense, and in the same time he sat magic is overpowerd its true its not dark souls but its not easy
I just got this game any helpful advice besides ESO's to start?
all games have flaws and bugs. this isn't a big studio.
Why would you upgrade your crafting skill if you can have merchants/armorers upgrade everything? Or can they? Seems to be the case
