      I know what you mean. I was in the UK when this first came out and me and my friends were on the edge of our seats. I think the entire world stopped when they aired each episode. Everyone would come over to my place and we would have snacks or grab take out and make sure we all settled in just in time for the show to begin. Somehow I thought with age comes wisdom and the way I felt at the end of this all those years ago may change with the time that has passed. I am still confused to this day and don't know what to think. Do I have reasonable doubt? Sure. So I am back in the US now and would have to find him Not Guilty because I have doubts. The acting was absolutely superb in the series and they have a second series too. I think the second season may be on Prime, I am not sure. I have looked everywhere on TH-cam for the Second season so hopefully this account will post it and then we can be on the edge of our seats again.

    Sikhism (Punjabi: ਸਿੱਖੀ), or Sikhi (Sikkhī, from Sikh, meaning a "disciple", "seeker," or "learner"), is a religion that originated in the Punjab region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent around the end of the 15th century, and has variously been defined as monotheistic, monistic and panentheistic.
    It is one of the youngest of the major world religions, and the world's fifth-largest organized religion, as well as being the world's ninth-largest overall religion.
    The fundamental beliefs of Sikhism, articulated in the sacred scripture Guru Granth Sahib, include faith and meditation on the name of the one creator, divine unity and equality of all humankind, engaging in selfless service, striving for justice for the benefit and prosperity of all, and honest conduct and livelihood while living a householder's life.
    In the early 21st century, there were nearly 25 million Sikhs worldwide, the great majority of them living in Punjab, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
    Sikhism is based on the spiritual teachings of Guru Nanak, the first Guru (1469-1539), and the nine Sikh gurus that succeeded him.
    The Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, named the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib as his successor, terminating the line of human Gurus and making the scripture the eternal, religious spiritual guide for Sikhs.
    Sikhism rejects claims that any particular religious tradition has a monopoly on Absolute Truth.
    The Sikh scripture opens with Ik Onkar (ੴ), its Mul Mantar and fundamental prayer about One Supreme Being (God).
    Sikhism emphasizes simran (meditation on the words of the Guru Granth Sahib), that can be expressed musically through kirtan or internally through Nam Japo (repeat God's name) as a means to feel God's presence.
    It teaches followers to transform the "Five Thieves" (lust, rage, greed, attachment, and ego).
    Hand in hand, secular life is considered to be intertwined with the spiritual life.
    Guru Nanak taught that living an "active, creative, and practical life" of "truthfulness, fidelity, self-control and purity" is above the metaphysical truth, and that the ideal man is one who "establishes union with God, knows His Will, and carries out that Will".
    Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru, established the political/temporal (Miri) and spiritual (Piri) realms to be mutually coexistent.
    Sikhism evolved in times of religious persecution.
    Two of the Sikh gurus - Guru Arjan (1563-1605) and Guru Tegh Bahadur (1621-1675) - were tortured and executed by the Mughal rulers after they refused to convert to Islam.
    The persecution of Sikhs triggered the founding of the Khalsa as an order to protect the freedom of conscience and religion, with qualities of a "Sant-Sipāhī" - a saint-soldier.
    The Khalsa was founded by the last Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh.

    Well, having just started this episode I'd point out as a juror without understanding how a defense couldn't argue this in court - Why were no fingerprints found on the weapon? - Why was the back-pack never recovered from a seemingly still or very slow moving river (only a short time after the arrest of suspect)? - these questions can only be answered in police hiding the evidence or throwing away or destroying evidence to convict their choice of killer.

    • @philsurtees
      @philsurtees 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arguing evidence tampering by the police in this case would be a completely idiotic defence strategy. Let's hope you never end up on a jury because you're a moron...

    Putting aside the multitude of court procedural clangers, Don't know about you but if i'm before the beak facing a stretch i'd be telling my brief to call the cricket coach to testify I'd not played cricket since the shoulder assault. I'd also expect him to recall the crown's witness who'd given evidence of a 'random and frenzied attack' to look at the Ms Da Silva assault wounds and describe them as a 'random and frenzied attack'.
    Summing up was good though.

    40:56 so, she thinks all the sneaking around, deception, lying, and secret meetings isn't "cheating", that nothing went on, that she was being "human"?! Messed up!! Her husband is right - it all starts in the imagination, and mentally lusting after someone IS just as bad as physically engaging in the adultery. It is a betrayal of faithfulness to her spouse.

    • @mckavitt13
      @mckavitt13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Feelings & actions are not at all the same thing. She IS just human. The husband, not even knowing the facts, ACTS on his imagined feelings, nearly killing the imagined adulterous lover of his wife. She is not responsible for her husband’s ACTIONS. Only for her own. She accepted the potential lover’s refusal to engage in sexual relations w her.

      I’m afraid no religion would agree w you on mentally lusting after s.o. being the same as being physically unfaithful. It is human & much more, poetic. If religions believed as you do, every human would be condemned to hell, including the religious (nuns, priests right up to the Pope). What is the point of behaving honourably despite one’s feelings if they are the same thing?! Sorry, but I find your extremism cruel, unrealistic, & lacking in all compassion.

    • @phareke
      @phareke 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mckavitt13 I agree with you in that it is human and poetic and there should be compassion for people feeling something (if they honestly work through those feelings)... however, the only thing I differ on is when you said that "no religion would agree w you on mentally lusting after s.o." To mentally lust after a married woman, for example, is considered adulterous behavior and/or covetous behavior. This comment is not to say that I don't, like all humans, have forbidden feelings, it's just to say that it's a bit disingenuous to assume that no religion would agree with the original comment on this thread.

    S1.E5 ∙ Episode #1.5
    The trial is now approaching the end. Jeremy Crawford borrows heavily against his flat to buy into Mark Waters' latest scheme. Johnnie Donne is feeling more than a little tender from his beating. Charles Gore tells his advisor that he will not be returning to the seminary and continues to help Elsie Beamish. When her husband drops her off at the courthouse, Rose wonders why her husband has a baseball bat in the car. Peter Segal's wife finally tells her father to mind his own business. In court, the barristers make their final arguments and summation to the jury. As the jury deliberates it is apparent that there is a wide variety of opinion about the defendant's guilt, with only a small majority voting to convict; several are still undecided. Afterward, Rose tells Johnnie that she is married and that the beating he received was likely inflicted by her husband. He goes on a drinking binge. - imdb 8.1
