I found a 2000 year old Artefact & THEN... guess which Historical Event I went to! (May 2023)

  • When I hold this object in my hand which is thousands of years old, I can imagine the person who held it before me. I wonder if they ever would have guessed that one day in the future, someone would be thinking about them and wondering what their life was like. The artefacts we find in the river are such an amazing reflection of history and historical events. In today's video I find ancient pottery rubbing shoulders with 19th century pottery. Old grotesque toys and lost belongings also wash up along the river banks. Each of them with a story to tell.
This weekend of 6/7 May 2023 is a historically significant one. King Charles III and Queen Camilla were coronated at Westminster Abbey. I decided to go along and meet the people that camped on the Mall waiting to see the King and Queen. I hope you enjoy meeting them too.
Thank you for watching and Thank you to everyone who took part in this video. I am very grateful.
    See you soon
    With love!
    Nicola

Are you one of the people I interviewed on the Mall on Friday 5th May? If so, thank you. You can see the footage in the second half of this video! Or, if you prefer you can see the standalone version of my interviews with the campers on the Mall here - th-cam.com/video/jLnWu8HMjVo/w-d-xo.html
Thank you! And thank you to everyone for your kind and wonderful comments. Have a wonderful day. Nicola

    Nicola,
70 years ago I watched the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth on television, in our home in New Jersey.
IT was amazing and I even had a complete set of the stamps honoring Her and all the Royal items associated with the Royalty.
    I was eleven years old.
Yesterday I saw Charles coronated and I am grateful to be healthy and alert enough to enjoy another
    momentous occasion, in my lifetime.
NO matter your country or political beliefs, this celebration after almost three years of Covid, is so positive I
will cherish it as long as I live.
    Cheers,
    Frederick Spector

I'm American, and I stayed up all night to watch from Pensacola, FL. I started out loving Tudor History, but I loved the Queen so much, and now I'm tickled with William and Katherine and the children. Charlotte is such a little mother abd such a beauty. George is his dad made over, and then there's Louis! He has my whole heart, he's such a mess! I think you are so lucky to be there in such amazing history. I long to be there every day!
Thank everyone who has been military here or there! And, God Save the King!

I love the name of your boat, and that it is safe from submarines with the 'dazzle' pattern paint. I loved that you found those Roman shards, and finding out one Roman potter anyway was proud enough to put his name on his items. Thank you for braving the crowds and talking to people, those people who were willing to brave the weather and sleep in tents or just in sleeping bags to see the coronation. I'm not quite old enough to have been around for Queen Elizabeth II coronation, I wasn't born until almost 6 months later. Now, I don't understand why those younger people were saying "This is a once in a lifetime" thing. Charles is 74. Now, because of my age and health, I don't expect to see William's coronation, but those young people could. Still, you could hear the excitement of the people, not just those you spoke to, but those around them. I did watch some of the video, but I just couldn't last 2+ hours of it. If I could've skipped the singing and stuff I'd'a done it.

I have been enjoying your channel for quite a few years now, and for a long time I couldn't comment due to computer issues. But I feel I have something relevant to communicate, now that I can. Don't cut down those Codd bottles. The fact that they're broken is part of their history, and in in the not-so-distant future their rarity will nesesitate the preservation of even the most broken ones. At one time, Bartmann jugs were probably common on the foreshore. And finally, think about some kinds of antiques that have been altered that now make us cringe.... Besides, you can always do it some day, but you can never put it back. I think they're beautiful in the condition as found. I love just being allowed to putter along with you on the riverside hoping you'll grab the things I spot. That's all you have to do to make me happy. Thanks for all your hard work.

That footage of the Campers was really special! Much more telling to me than a people putting on ancient glad-rags and bling. Thank you for that!

Love the interviews you did! It's nice to see them excited for the historic event.
I remember staying up all night with my bestfriend to see Charles and Diana's wedding when we were in junior high. My son wanted to see the coronation live, so we stayed up until 4am (Texas time) to watch it. Even my 80 year old mother was up to see it. Unfortunately, a few minutes after the carriage left the palace, I konked out! 😫😴💤 Well, I was very tired but I'm proud that my mom and son toughed it out and watched the whole thing.
    👍🏻♥️🇬🇧

OMW Nicola your recording of the people camping out and interviews was better than any pro media reporting on the Coronation big camp out. I loved it you are a born interviewer and what an experience it must have been great to see the lady from Cape Town how lucky she was to be able to be there and greetings from Cape Town

Thank you for taking us along to meet all of the wonderful people with their different and interesting stories as to why they came to celebrate the coronation! I so enjoyed it! Also, love your new old motorboat and I think the name is an excellent choice. Congratulations and I wish you many happy nautical adventures aboard it. Sending you big hugs and much love from Tennessee.

The Roman bits are AMAZING! And I really love the WW1 style camouflage on the Fitzroy! I'm sure it will keep all your secret spots secret! No disrespect intended but, as an American, I don't get all the hoopla for The King - I guess that's why we're not Brits... anymore... It was thrilling to see so much excitement and everyone was so nice and up-beat. Love your stuff!

Nickola, I so enjoyed this beautiful Vlog. I really enjoyed watching you interview all the people that were camped out. Sheer dedication. What a lovely vibe. You had to be a journalist in a former lifetime. You were absolutely brilliant at it. Again, thank you so much. Also, it was amazing to see that one piece of pottery that had identification on it. That was absolutely amazing! Sending love from California💜🫶🤗🦔🇺🇸

where ever you were, that spot was a goldmine. One gem after another. Will you ever do a round up on your Roman artifacts? I enjoyed them. Lovely to see people from around the world gathered on the Mall. Your interviews with them was better than the major news teams. Well done Nicola.

Thank you so much Nicola! I am partial to the RAOB with snout as the cutest. But without is quite elegant in a simple clean presentation. And I do agree with Van Gogh that simplicity is the height of elegance . Thank you so much for going about all the lovely people waiting and celebrating. So charming all of them were!❤

Nicola this is a fantastic episode ,some great finds I'm guessing from the lower estuary of perhaps even the Medway shores with lots of interesting finds including that heart shaped Union Jack cushion ,what a thrill to find that on such a fortutitous occasion, my heart skipped a beat when you revealed it. If that wasn't Karma I don't know what is.
Then your trip to the Mall and all the wonderful people ,you make a great interviewer Nicola.
My last Coronation was of course June1953 our Scout Troop the 19th Plymouth from Emmanuel Church in Manamead had over several weekend camps built a monstrous beacon on Penn Beacon. This is one of the traditional beacon sites used in the past to warn of invasions like the Spanish Armada We had to wait until we could see the beacon before us before letting off a great big rocket and lighting ours We could eventually see several including one on Plymouth Hoe. The Chain started down in Cornwall near Land's end and ended in Northern Scotland
We too spent that night in pup tents and dined that night on good old baked beans and potatoes roasted in the beacon embers washed down with mugs of cocoa.
This time we watched everything on TV having got up at 5am and thoroughly enjoyed every moment ,later I cooked a full English breakfast that included Baked beans of course
Thanks for this Nicola a superb video in every way.
    X ❤🤍💙
