  • Having a personal Hunter tire mounting and balancing machine comes in handy for times like this. The new BBS wheels and Cup 2's are getting the full treatment from de-nibbing to coating after they get mounted and balanced.

I don't do mounting and balancing, so it was fun to watch the process. Cool. Gained knowledge.
It's always fun to watch coatings go on anything, so I enjoyed that, too. Kinda want to see tires and wheels on the car. Good video.

I used to work at a couple repair shops and mounted and balanced on a regular basis. The white paste style bead lube is the best, even though it is the most aggravating. When we would open a fresh container we would either dunk the brush in water first, or put a small amount of water in the bucket. Take the brush and agitate the paste inside of the bucket in the same type of way you would old school shaving cream.

Good job Matt. 50 years ago, my little brother did "road force" by using the bubble balancer after the spin balancer---no computers.

I haven't used this tire machine before but have been doing tires for 12 years now. It looks like your helper arms are pressing too far down on the tire and that is causing a lot of stress on the bead by the duck head. I would suggest bringing them up a little bit to take off the extra force and that should allow the top bead to go over the duck head easier.

When trying to seat the top bead with air, try to put both arms under the tire pushing up. One arm under the tire where the tpms is, and another 180 degrees from that. Or place arm under where the bead is not seated, and other 180 from that. Ideally you should be using more air pressure to seat it (1 second of high psi blast). The normal fill up air is usually not enough to seat the bead on low profile tires.

These are nice wheels but BBS e88 are the bad boys for a 997. Can’t wait to see them fitted tho. And you seem a lot more at home with the mounting and balancing than before

  • @stiannese7155

Try to lighten the pressure down on the tires when rotating. They tighten up due to the angle and will than slip on the wheel inside and not rotate an go on. And I just use plastic stretch film on the edge of the wheel. Quick and easy :) The less expensive machines are easier to operate.

If you look at right before 16:00 the last attempt looked to work because the red arm on the left side of the screen was adjusted properly. It's almost like you have to have it kissing the rim. Otherwise the tire deforms too much. The first 2 attempts the arm was too far down...and super sports don't stretch for shit. Side wall is incredibly stiff.

Matt, dream set up you have there, very smart. Several times I’ve taken brand new wheels, and purchased Pilot Sports or PZeros at a local “D. Tire” shop and they scratched the rims putting them on, especially 305’s or 325’s. They are always in a hurry, even tipping the installer cash beforehand doesn’t help if he isn’t meticulous or very careful. Question, I’m still new to your channel, any Idea how your going to be selling entries to win the dream car of my lifetime your giving away? Will it be through purchases of items on your site, or just raffle entries? I’m getting up to buy a bunch of stuff on your website, and wondering when this will kick off? You mentioned drawing was June-July, but haven’t heard you say details otherwise, watched all of your videos….(i worked at a Porsche dealer 25+ years ago, 911 is on my bucket list, and this one is the dream 😊)

I worked in specialty chemical and pharmaceutical research for a long time. Lets say I'm well versed in the properties and purpose of nitrogen. N2 in tires only sounds like a better idea. It isn't. Think snake-oil. Unless you're trying to inert the atmosphere or eliminate the fire tetrahedram, there are no substantial gains using N2. It doesn't even make sense to think there would be.
