I love it when I come across a truly excellent and informative channel that hardly anybody knows about. Very interesting subject matter, well researched and presented.
I went to the Parish Hall for school services in the 1950’s, as the church itself had been bombed. That was our local church. The lane that runs by the graveyard was very scary to walk down even in bright sunshine l The graveyard covered a large area.
Thanks for this - I grew up in Bedminster and remember the old shell of the church before its demolition. Worth mentioning that the well-known St John's Lane runs past the bottom of the area.
Fine work. It's a great pleasure to learn something new about the area that's been my home for the last five years and especially the unsuspected history of St John's Churchyard, just around the corner.
Long or short, they're all great! Though I prefer longer (working my way through the ones I haven't watched since I last remembered this channel due to reddit, which is lots. Excellent! 😁)
Now unencumbered by significant later ecclesiastical buildings this would seem to present an almost unique opportunity for archaeological investigation of a Saxon minster and its later reincarnations if the funding could be available. I wonder has anything already been done along those lines here?
May be much shorter, but it's at least as enlightening as your full-length offerings, for anyone who knows Bristol and Bedminster in particular. Great stuff. As usual, you make a serious point about past decisions concerning architecture,
The Minster in Ilminster may have got away with calling itself such as it was a Royal Peculiar for most of its life and was therefore exempt from jurisdriction of any local diocese.
should be another one in a couple of weeks, one that I'm particularly happy with too. after that i fear another drought period, the inspiration pipeline is a bit low and daylight hours are woefully short already!
Whilst I’m sure you weren’t looking to give an exhaustive list of all minster towns in England, a worthy omission is Beaminster, the name being similar enough to warrant the question as to whether the origin of the name may be for similar reasons.

I love the long videos but this shorter form works great too! Thanks PD!!
I do love your deep dive videos but these short snippets are just as interesting!

Me too Martin. I went to the Parish Hall for services.

I really enjoy your long videos. Thanks for making them.

Interesting, nice video
I miss my hometown🥺
Personally I would prefer the 30/40 minutes videos. Greatl videos of a great city, perhaps I am biased as a Bristolian.
You laugh about having a baptism in that, a chap baptized someone in the Hartcliffe roundabout underpass when it flooded last year haha.
Really interesting 🤔
It's a pity as some nice ruins would be great and more interesting than that bench and a lawn.
