That deliberate. It’s very, very dreamlike. Listen to the music in Gapra Whitewood or Oerba Village, for example. In terms of style and mood, they nailed it.
The whole series have a dreamy feeling about it, idk why it happens but i like it a lot. And last game of the series is one of the rare ocasions i come back one time or another to make another run, it's really fun to me.
That's great to hear. Ff13 is one, if not the most divisive game in the franchise. It's a love or hate game. Im on the love side. Not my fave, but i still like the game as a whole. What's funny is that almost all of the things people hate abt the game is what i loved abt it. The confusion at the start, the bombardment of info and terms, even the linearity of the maps. But i also dont like snow hehe. Im neutral about vanille. I like Hope and Lightning's story arc even for the sequels.
A couple years ago this became my first ff, it introduced me to the series as well, have played the whole series along with lr and 13-2, have also played the 7 series, 10, 15, re:zero, exvious
Very well done review. It's an actual review instead of an "impression" masquerading as a review like a lot of other channels do. Thanks for the content!
i loved this game, feel like in 2021 it would be such a breath of fresh air with its linear design (some of the criticisms it received when it was released) compared to all the bland open world games out today
I really enjoy linear games nowadays because if well done those games feel more focused & on the ball in terms of action and pacing. Alot of open world games have an open world just for the sake of bragging about it rather than actually having an open world that feels alive & with a purpose. I don't care about walking around a huge open world that has nothing to do in it except for a bunch of pointless & grindy fetch/loot battle quests. A focused story oriented linear game keeps you properly engaged & excited about the game.
Yeah. I used to play this back in 2013, and still in 2021 I find this a really good game. The Paradigm system is really unique, but the one thing I really didn't like was the fact that if your party leader dies, it's game over, making some battles really annoying. Apart from that, it was a really good Final Fantasy game. I have played PRI, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII, (a small bit of) XIV and the demo of XV. Oh and VIIR
I put 90+ hours on 13 when it came out getting the platinum trophy and I loved it. Thanks to having some free time during the pandemic I got 13-2 and lighting returns off of ebay and put 85-90 hours on each getting the platinum trophies. After FF9, the 13 trilogy is my favorite now and the paradigm shift system is my favorite of the series. These games certainly don’t deserve the hate they get. Plus the soundtrack on 13-2 is amazing.
@@thequeernote ofcourse there are others 😉 9 is first ff i played and finished 21year ago, finished it from start few Times and did last battle at least dozen Times just to watch last cutscene 😁 and it holdes special place for me
Nice to look back on this game, I never remember disliking it. Probably because my linear nature of it was a great stress reliever on the OCD I typically have with games.
Everyone I knew hated it back then, but I also found the linearity refreshing especially because I just came off Fallout: New Vegas. I used to get ehat I called choice paralysis. There was just so much crap to do in more open world games I never could focus when I'd sit down and play, and it drove me crazy. FF13 was relaxing as a result.
@@srsgoblin yeah it’s called decision fatigue, and while probably younger players enjoy it the older ones with less time just want to be able to run though the game without feeling that you’re missing a lot
Creaty. While I enjoy choice-based games like Mass Effect and open-world games like Skyrim on occasion, I too find it relaxing when a game is just trying to tell you a linear story rather then make you get lost in its world. I love FF13's story and how it gradually unfolds over time; contrast that with games like Skyrim where you're just running around like a chicken with its head cut off and by the time you complete a mission you've picked up a dozen more and got sidetracked so many times you've probably forgotten what it was all about, so the impact is totally lost. FF13 has a great story and it's visually the most beautiful game I've ever laid eyes on.
@@srsgoblin the linearity enhanced the story. I played FF15 and i couldn't get into the characters because i was busy running around doing side quests. I play RPGs for the story
This video is great. I actually restarted the trilogy earlier this week and I’m still progressing through XIII. This game was actually my entry Final Fantasy title and I actually didn’t like it. I moved on years just disliking it until I picked it up years after a few titles. I played it, then went on to XIII-2 (my favorite) and the third. I ended up actually enjoying it and appreciating the game way more. It has a great soundtrack, great character design, and a beautiful environment. It’s underrated and I wish more fans would pay attention to the game and see the good rather than the bad. For a game that released 12 years ago, it still holds up amazingly well. The same applies to XIII-2 and Lightning Returns. Got my fingers crossed for a hopeful re-release of the 3 in future consoles.
This trilogy is one of my favorite in the FF-series. I feel like lots of love has been put into the creation of these worlds. Lots of people kinda hated FF-XIII, but I'm happy that despite the hate they received that they created 2 games to continue its story. So happy that they did.
Final Fantasy 13 has never been worth playing. It's always been trash. Sorry, but even 15 is objectively better. I've never hated 15, it's got its problems, but its got the bones of a good game. Not so with 13. The entire 13 trilogy is terrible. Even worse than FF12.
@@benjamincorbett no way. I couldn't stand 12. Ff6, ff7, ff8, ff9, and ff10 will always be the golden age of ff. Personally i prefer 7, 8, and 9 the most.
@@TheHeroRobertELee I personally think, that FF13 is pretty good. I think the story is pretty good and I just love the characters. Vanille is probably one of my favourite characters of the entire framchise. Of course, there is a lot that I don't really like and the script isn't the best, but I had a lot of fun playing through the game and I'm currently playing it for a second time.
@@daisyfloweroriginal I couldn't get really get into it as a kid. But then again that was many years ago when it first came out. Maybe I'd feel different now idk.
For that reason I actually really liked the linearity of the game, though they went way way too far with it. I just really got that vibe that I was on the run, being hunted down by the authorities.
I absolutely love this game. The combat system is soooooo much fun and it is such a breath of fresh air hearing someone else sing the praises of the paradigm system and the battle music of XIII. Great video, thank you so much for making it.
Nah son , the most hated is DOGSHIT 9 ….. no one talks about that garbage ( 7. Yes 8 no one remembers that shit except for skywal 🤣 ten yup TIDUS AND SIN ten 2 aka dress wars *11 just barely aka the great hard drive debacle* I think I breezed through 12 in like 3-4 hours ( when I found out 12-2 was Pokémon I was curious so I got it ) and 13 *my main avatar is the rabbit girl* 😍

Final Fnatasy 13 was my first Final Fantasy game I played. Before, the series never interested me, but something about 13's visuals interested me. Also, making the big part of the first game linear made it way more welcoming to people like me. Anyways, I played 13 and 13-2 and loved them and are my favorites. I'm literally rebuying PS3 to replay them since there is no clear indication of a PS4/P5 remaster and I never ended up playing 13-3.
This game was a classic. Literally the second Final Fantasy game I completed after 10 and it preceded 15 for me. The cutscenes and the sound track was outstanding. The acting too. My Gf even watched it the game from my side and loves it till this day.
I loved Snow’s obsession with being a hero because of how it conflicts with the general hopelessness that most of the game throws at him and the cast. He doesnt change much, but he does grow into the role and I think it’s really interesting
I feel like a lot of people who hate on this game don't realize that many of the characters' main traits are MEANT to be unlikable at first. Snow is a douchey wannabe hero whose blind optimism gets people killed. Lightning is a cold jerk who thinks she can handle everything without anyone's help and that nothing is her fault. Vanille is annoyingly cloying and coy. Hope is emo, whiny, annoying, weak and psycho, wanting to murder Snow. But that's just the setup. Snow eventually realizes his heroism lacked proper planning and got people killed. Lightning eventually realizes she is shutting everyone out that she's trying to help and that she needs their help as much, and that a lot of the situation is her fault. It's eventually revealed that Vanille's bubbly personality was a ruse to throw people off of who she really is and the "sins" she is guilty of. She confesses it and stops lying to everyone. Hope eventually realizes he was consumed by his trauma, fear, and hatred and grows past it. These characters are intricately crafted. Even Sahz and Fang have their big "reveal" moments, despite those are the two I'd say are fairly likable personalities from the start. They all change and grow together, and help each other through their weaknesses and toxic personality paradigms. It's very inspiring and I feel like if more people understood it, and how closely it resembles how a lot of real people are, they'd appreciate how much real-world meaning the game's story has.
@@japanorbust This isnt a terrible argument, but Snow isnt just unlikable, hes HATEABLE. Compare him to Steiner from FFIX. Steiner starts off as being unlikable. Hes loud, obnoxious, and stupid but his actions and rationale make sense. He has a job to do, protect the princess. His animosity toward Zidane is 100% justified. He cant just let this horned up monkey boy kidnap Garnet. It doesnt even matter that she wants to be kidnapped, shes the princess. She cant just run off on her own, shes putting herself in danger and hes doing his job to try to get her back to Alexandria. Then of course, things change and he develops as a character. Snow, on the other hand is just a cringy, poorly written character. Nothing about his actions or rationale at the beginning of the game make sense. The whole story, plot, dialogue is just very poorly done, imo. Literally everything about FFXIII is cringe inducing.
I enjoyed this game for its story, world and characters but I wish the execution for it could have been better, also I wish they incorporated the victory fanfare at the end of the battles.
the stagger system was the best part about the combat and I’m really glad it made it all the way into Final Fantasy VII Remake. The thing I wish they did was remaster this game and make the combat easier to understand and fix a lot of the complaints liek paradigm shift taking up time from the battle even if it’s just a second.
I remember i put n over 200 hours on ff13!!!! Endless nights stayin up maxing out weapons and characters and did 100% of the trials😩😩😩 SOOO MUCH MEMORIES!!!!
Im actually a big fan of the shift in the setting of FF13. I really appreciated what it went for and I really enjoy the cast. It was sci-fi but still felt super fantasy.
I love FFXIII and XV for that reason. Everyone is like "Thank God they're going back to fantasy with XVI, but I on the other hand was kinda disappointed seeing the trailer, not gonna lie. Combat system looks intriguing and story and characters look interesting. But then I see the world and I'm like "Wow. One more fantasy game with castles. (Quiet) Yaaaaaaaay..." One of the best things in XV was just riding in Regalia with them boys and admiring the disc as it's raining and listening to previous games' soundtracks(cough FFXIII cough cough). Regalia. A car. In a fantasy setting. Re-playing through XV Windows edition right now, next up is the XIII, hence why I'm on this video... :)
FF VI wasn't entirely the "quintessential fantasy" game either, but it's still one of the best of all time. It was a steampunk fantasy game! The XIII trilogy and VI were groundbreaking and still worth playing today (and are among my favorite games of all time!).
Never hated this game, I love that what many hate, it's linear for a long part and follows a story. I believe more games should try that again, open worlds and big areas are so overrated and overused at this point. And these hallways look spectacular, I stopped son many times and just looked at the environment, defined more often as in newer and more open games. It has all want in a JRPG. The story, fast combat. What I must say is that I needed a second playthrough to enjoy the story and world fully, there are lots to learn and read what the cutscenes just don't tell you. That could be better but that's all Also, Fang is awesome! Love this woman
I felt the exact same way. I love this game because it doesnt feel like a chore to play. People want to "explore", but exploration usually means traversing wide open spaces for hours on end with very little actual return. I dont think this is a matter of ff 13 being bad. I think it's a matter of jrpg fans liking boring shit
@@BR-ec9zd Jrpg fans liking boring shit....dude that's!... kinda true xD. I love grinding and make godlike characters after I beat the game ^^ I hate useless side quests, and these days the games are overloaded with this time-wasting crap. FF13 just doesn't give you that. There are a few and they are endgame content after you beat the story. So I must give the game another + But still, I must say, it could be a bit more open. I love the city's in-game and wished I could just explore a bit more of it. Especially the last one where you rush to the final boss. .
"I tried making this as simple and quick as possible" Honestly, there was no other way to narrow it down and you did a great job with it! Of course I've played the game before and I'm biased, but I think if I watched this video before starting the game, I would actually understand something for the first 10 hours of gameplay!
I feel like the trilogy was ahead of its time and also I think that it would've been better received if it hadn't had the name Final Fantasy. The game itself is awesome and was very fun. XIII-2 was maybe the most fun platinum I've done. I really hope they'll put out an official remaster for PS5 at some point.
I'm not sure the PS 5 could run FF XIII. It was designed for the PS Triple and its powerful cell processor. Might be too much for the the PS 5 architecture. Lol
I'd rather have a remake, they could fix the linear feel of the first game, maybe introduce the FF XIII-2 boss earlier. The fact that we haven't gotten a remaster after all this time gives me hope for a remake.
There already is an official remaster for FFXIII. And that remaster is the Xbox One/Series X version. It contains a patch which bumps the entire game up to native 4k, 60fps, antialiasing and even enhanced textures. The game looks absolutely breathtaking. I mean just wow, it leaves absolutely no remaster to be desired. I know it sounds hard to believe that it's as good as I'm saying, but it is. It really, really puts you in awe all over again.
This was the first FF game I played through to the end. Some comments: - The lore is amazing even though you have to go through the text boxes (dislike how they did that but it's fascinating to read) - I kinda liked how each new battle with minions felt like a challenge. I've never encountered normal enemy encounters that kicked my ass as hard as these ones in a JRPG before. - it's a game that has a lot of amazing and interesting concepts but they're not executed that well at times or told through an accessible way that didn't rely on the player doing most of the leg work. Lastly, Fang and Lighting...bruh 😍
It's always pleasant to find small channels with quality editing, video and sound record alongside a pleasant script and pacing. I don't know if you've done this prior to starting this channel through some other medium but keep up the good work! Earned yourself a sub with this video alone :D
Final Fantasy XIII is simply beautiful. You can tell they spent a lot of effort/budget on this game, everything but maybe the gameplay itself. It would've been an amazing movie. I love the characters and designs (especially Lightning in this first game). Beautiful characters, CGs, and graphics for its time. An actually interesting and beautiful environments (specifically Cocoon). Beautiful trailer (definitely watch the trailers) with a song I still listen to. And ofc a beautiful soundtrack. And most importantly a beautiful Final Fantasy world and story full of lore, with a beautiful ending. I admit, I didn't play all of it but I did watch the whole trilogy like long movies. Especially enjoyed the first game's story because of the story and the interesting setting of Cocoon. Also, the last game's ending really does make it whole... was emotional and makes me miss the characters and story, made me want more of the Lightning saga.
Always loved this one. The style was so interesting and refreshing and I found these characters more interesting than most in FF. The paradigm shift battle style was also SO much fun, I have such fond memories of it. AND THAT BATTLE THEME IS JUST FIRE
You sir are awesome. I might be a little biased since ff13 is my first ff game or one of my first j/RPGs I played but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Ff13 is my comfort game and I tend to revisit it every time I'm bored or feel sad.
I really don't think it needs a remaster honestly, the version that came out on PC years ago (since I'm a PC player) still holds up so well, even the PS3 version still looks pretty good imo
This is the first installment I played in the main line FF series along with its sequels, and I really enjoyed them all! I really want to think that the linearity XIII offered was intentional; that it resembled the premise of the story (fulfilling their foci). :D
Thank you. This was my first FF that I played all the way to completion by myself. It had always surprised me and made me sad to hear how little people liked it, considering the place it holds in my heart. Ironically a lot of what some OG rpg fans dislike about 13, were some of the same things that felt so inviting to me. I'm the type to get overwhelmed by having too much to explore, and the complexity and sheer number of terms never felt out of place t me because I had a ton of fun reading the datalogs, it felt like I got to experience the world through that, which catered to me very well (whereas how you mentioned, its more traditional to do that by interacting with NPCs). Obviously that's just an opinion, but the loneliness f the world also felt right in this game, since our party was a bunch of loners put together by accident, who simultaneously became symbols of fear and hate. (Again, its definitely feasible to say, "well not everyone knew they were l'cie", but I think it matches the tone is all). And I couldn't agree more with you about the battle system. I know it gets a lot of flack for the heavy emphasis on "auto" since you control one character and even that control is generally defaulted to "auto", but the boss fights just gave me chills from adrenaline every time, especially on repeat play throughs were I specifically level less and less pushing the limits. I appreciate you balancing mentioning the faults of the game with the things you enjoyed about it, that is something that not a lot of people who talk about it do. I could talk about this game for forever probably, so I'll leave it there, but once again, thank you for appreciating FF13.
@TheBlackF4lcon I'd need to know what boss you got stuck on, but if you were enjoying it I'd recommend revisiting it! But only if you were already enjoying it. I remember a few bosses give me some trouble in FF13 but not out right unbeatable, my experience in that vain was the fight against Seymour in FFX in the Gongozo Mountains or whatever Kimari's home was called. All that said, there are better games out there, so it's fine to not revisit it, but I think it's worth finishing if you have time!
This game had some of the most powerful cutscenes I've seen from Final Fantasy. It's a shame it got such a poor reception, but I can also see why in some cases
@@chicodepuertorico1450 By the 3 hour mark the game should've shown and told you what a L'cie is multiple times, and that's not counting the Datalog as I know your lot are illiterate and won't read it, so either you play through games extraordinarily slowly (which is especially odd for something so linear, I'm talking DMV Sloth level of slow,) and didn't get far enough in to see the explanations, or you just weren't paying attention, (maybe you're one of those weirdos who skips cutscenes on a first playthrough) either way at that point it's your own damned fault for not understanding by the 3 hour mark.
@@chicodepuertorico1450 It's an alternate world, of course there will be unfamiliar stuff here and there, and L'cie is just one of them. I was blown away by this game at the time. The story was so heartbreaking and well-realized and the world was gorgeous. It was linear, yes... but given the story, it would not make any sense if you had the freedom of a tradition ff title. Second game was fun. Third game was unplayable. Anyone care to tell me how things ended? 😅
(Spoilers for Lightning Returns) Basically, if I'm remembering this right, Bhunivelze (AKA God) is all like "I"m going to destroy the earth and remake it" and he puts Lightning in charge of collecting souls to put into the new world. Eventually, lightning is all like "I don't want to be your errand girl anymore, I want to reunite with Serah" so she kills god, then becomes god, and then reunites with Serah and together they create a new world. I think.

Most FF games are too easy. 13 actually has pretty decent difficulty curve Eidolan battles notwithstanding, even the difficulty spike in Gran Pulse is there for a reason to encourage exploration and is properly built up so I hesitate to count it against the game.
@@YamatoNCC1701 You're clearly just a bandwagonning FF Genwunner who doesn't like new and different things in a series that's been known for doing new and different things as early as the second game
@@deity4919 For most FF games difficulty is going to vary greatly from person to person because of different builds and how much grinding one decides to do. The reason why 13 is one of the ones with a better difficulty curve is because the linearity and level gating prevents people from breaking the game in half with power grinding and stat manipulation like in a lot of the other games. So while not a hard game it has an actual difficulty curve, whereas the other games are typically only hard at the beginning and then the stat manipulation mechanics kick in and allow people to break the game which usually results in a sort of reverse difficulty curve, hardest at the start but gets easier as it goes on. My first FF was 6 BTW.
@@deity4919 Well yeah but that's the decisive majority of the playerbase that doesn't go for those, ergo when talking about difficulty curves superbosses and the like are usually excluded because they are supposed to be difficulty spikes distinct from the curve of the main story. I think completionists make up about 1 in 5 players at the best of times and even out of that it's an even smaller minority that actually see it through/pull it off, most stop partway through attempting to complete most games so the real number is significantly lower.
Just found this channel. Love this final fantasy, and loved the video. Even with the games flaws, I was still in love with it enough to play through the whole trilogy
I was going through my old boxes, and found FF 13 for the xbox 360 in it. I remember buying it when it was new and playing for a few hours.... and not liking the new battle system, then stopping. @@Mefdrag tener que vencer todos esos Long Guis para la materia negra…. Bien me acuerdo. Pero tener los platinos de 13, 13-2, y lighting returns son los trofeos que me dan mas orgullo.
Some very good insights! I think the absence of an explicit villain for most of the game made it more relatable for me. Instead of fighting a god, lord, or cataclysmic monster, the conflict for all the characters seemed more internal. Their struggle was literally trying to figure out what they should do in life and how they are supposed to handle their expulsion. And the soundtrack is absolute gold! I still listen to it often^_^
I agree. I like the lack of an obvious villain. To me, the biggest villain was their fate. In an Albert Camus type way, they fought against the absurdity and pointlessness of their fates for the sake of morality and responsibility.
It's on sale now on Steam!! I've always wanted to play this game, but I couldn't cause I couldn't afford to have the console back when I was in school. Time to give it a go!!! Thank you!
Man appreciate this vid. You really hit us with the Atonement track at the end lol. I think this game will age better over time. I think the combat gets AMAZING in the latter half, but the first half is only meh imo. Sazh haste gang.
The first 20 hours or so are quite painful in this game, as the combat is just keep pressing X over and over again and it's just hallways and cuts cutscenes and you have no idea what's going on. But it sure did get good by the end. The music and visuals are top tier. The combat is amazing.
Always liked FF13 lotta people I know don't saying its a hallway simulator but loved 10 while was pretty much exactly the same as 13 in terms of openness.
Ffx was way more open on terms of character development and when they do open, ffxnis to every area including many hidden ones. For ff13, its a giant field, but only those areas, and its content is via missions. I do like both games, but you have to see them on a whole. Ff10 told its story directly, ff13 almost requires reading datalogs to fully grasp. Ff10s cast is made to be lovable, ff13 is to be flawed. Ff10 had overall more content, while ff13 had its missions and that's about it. (I will say though, FF13-2 is WAY better than ff10-2 IMHO. In every way)
@@hellfrozenphoenix13 thinking on it i do agree with you on that. There is a lot of reading to be done to understand the villains motives, world and such while 10 was more compact. Dunno what they where thinking with X-2 either lol
@xg223 its pretty much the same as 7-9 minus an overworld map. The overworld map gives the illusion of large scale to games. 7-9 are about the same just ffx makes you go down more narrow paths to get to the edge of the screen to load the next area. Ff10 was quite good actually and I have to disagree completely. The game did objectively really well in every key aspect.
you're right, when I first played as a teenager, I was really confused and had no idea what was happening, especially with the battle system and story. but when I played again at 21 (I'm 23 now), I realized......I really like this game! when I beat it, I had a sense of nostalgia and fondness and I even teared up a few times. for anyone on the fence about playing, yeah it's complex but once you understand, you really understand and by that time, you're wrapped up in the story and it's difficult to walk away. you'll definitely want to see the end. so yeah :)
To be honest when I played the game when I was younger, I finished it and never really felt satisfied. As an adult, I recently also revisited it and yeah there were some odd parts here and there but overall I thought it was a very fun game to play. The combat system was a lot of fun and I actually grew to love all the characters over time. So I would say it is def a good FF that doesnt deserve all the hate it gets.
One of the BEST FF title for me! (I have played n finished FF 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12(half way there), 13, 15 and 7RE since 90s. My favorites are 8, 10, 13 and of course the 7RE!
ff13 is one of my favorite games. i loved the atmosphere every local has, never felt like i was playing a boring location. the enemies were varied and had nice designs. The Music is god-tier!!!!! and the characters are nice imo. It took me several playthroughs to understand everything and feel for the story but was able to follow it pretty easily. The combat was a big change for me since i had only played ff10 before this game but in short time i found myself speedrunning battles once i knew how to use paradigms better. the crystarium allows an open exploration of skills and strengths, granted in the late game it allows it. The summons are for sure a let down in terms of combat ability, they're not super powerful but i do love the story-line battles involving them and making them a trial for each character to defeat to continue in their story. The story is mostly linear and the last parts of the game where it opens up in pulse are more for xp, character growth, and to lengthen the game time. The form of upgrading gear was ok but in late game it got terrible, takes hours to get enough gil to get materials for gear, and then you'll have to grind for more gear. So i think that needed a more open system and a more forgiving gil system. But MY biggest issue is what many agree with, the linear storyline and environments. After many many times i have played this game and the more times i will play in the future i can't stop thinking of what it would be like if each chapter had a expanded location, where you can do to multiple places, explore way more, maybe find lore information that way, special enemies or items etc... Even use a larger map to help explore each character's qualities and how they feel. I think it was limited because of the game's size. i had it on xbox 360 and it has 3 cds meaning it was too much to fit on one disc i think. ps3 had it on one but i'm not sure what to make of that. If they did a remaster of the game the creators needs to 100% revamp the maps to allow for exploration, give a more human side of things in terms of enemies, fix the equipment leveling up mechanic, free up the crystarium for all players more early on. But keep the glorious soundtrack and visuals, honestly that is what makes me come back so often, i can't get enough of looking at the game and listening to it all. yeah i love this game😂
I actually really like how linear the game is, as well as the fact that there aren't any classic towns, I think it really plays into the themes of the game, the path is linear because the characters feel like they are being forced down a path that they can't escape, no matter what they try, and the level design reflects this. It's the same with no traditional towns or npc interactions, as you yourself said "anything or anyone is your enemy." This means no towns would take you in, and no npc's would want to interact with you. The game forces you to feel lonely, because the characters themselves are alone against cacoon.
Replaying this game after 10 yrs and I'm RE-fully OBSESSED immediately. Helpful little vid, good overview of the game, you should do another one that's in-depth about the characters and their storyline and battle competencies.
Just downloaded it, I’m the same boat, I played it as a teen back when it came out and never fully understood it and put it down pretty quickly. Excited to actually get into it.
@@Thats-What-We-Dewwwww I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s more fun than I remember and I don’t hate the gameplay as much as I though (still think it’s weird as hell) but all around enjoyed it a lot, I beat the main story and plan to go to XIII-2 eventually.
@@treycanterbury9646 13-2 is very fun, fixes all the mistakes of 13. But the story isn’t as impactful imo. Still another beautiful entry in the final fantasy series.
FF13 was one of my favorite games to plat. Fighting those giants on the plains was quite satisfying. I hope the trilogy gets bundled and remade for ps5. I really enjoyed these.
I actually like Snow. Even if some of his dialogue was cheesy. He's the kind of guy that wants to save everyone, even to his own detriment. Sure he can be annoying, but he can back it up. Plus he has a huge heart. Sazh is also a great character. And while you wonder why Vanille is around, he has some great scenes with Sazh. The whole section up to the end of Nautilus had really good interactions between them.
Your review was lovely and you were incredibly objective and fair. I have always loved FFXIII and thought it deserved more credit. You point out the flaws and strengths insightfully and give potential players/viewers a comprehensive idea of what to expect. Now following you and look forward to many more reviews. Top notch.
Much appreciated, currently working on the next critique/review as a return to these videos with Final Fantasy 15 so maybe you'll be interested in that when it drops next month
I can’t wait. Just watched your “FF XIII Remaster” suggestion. FYI, XIII-2 improves on some of the issues you had and Lightning Returns is like XIII meets Majora’s Mask. Great series overall; underrated by far too many.
@@reliableprez I also made a video for XIII because I just feel the game deserves it. It has never gotten the chance it should have. Unfortznately it, like many other games, will always have a stigma to it despite a fanbase existing
Good review I've played it a few times and still miss a important chest here and there . Basically linear but lots of hard to find hiding places. Oh Vanille those battle noises are so the cringe.
Vanille's english voice was a total disaster lmao. The devs wanted her voice actress to mimic the Japanese style voice acting. It wasn't a good idea to say the least. I had a better time playing the game in Japanese dub when I replayed the game
As this being one of my favorite games of all time, and it’s something that has honestly been part of my childhood and adulthood. I can respect your take on this game. I was prepared to hear someone just complain about it, but was hopeful to see someone else’s perspective. I’m happy to see others even so far past the games release are enjoying it as I am.
when i played this back then i was so confused about the combat system and its just hours and hours of linear gameplay i was actually keen on having a game with stunning graphics and ff13 definitely delivered on that front especially back then this looked insane and even today it looks amazing, pretty crazy after a whole decade
Lightning and hope ran the entire trilogy. I really love these characters. Especially hope. Suits his name. He was a crybaby at the start but he learned to man up because of lightning. And look what he became of in ff13-2. He became the most impt figure in their world. Lightning was too hard and inflexible but hope's childishness softened her. And the way lightning saved Hope's soul in 13LR made me cry so hard. She even used the same knife. Sorry for the spoliers. Their tandem is so lovable.
I loved this game so so much when I was a teen. I replayed it during the pandemic and it blew me out of the water again. The characters, the voice acting? Just so damn grand. Up to this day there is no game for me that managed to make me care of six people so immensely. Never understood why this game got so much hate or was considered a 'failure' even? Sure it has its flaws but come on
theres a lot of reasons the game was hated back then, but tbh i remember the release as a huge ff fan, and the fact that actually most main characters are girls played a part of it. It just didnt "fit" the aesthetic most ff fans liked, and if you top about the expectations, people litterally didnt even give it a chance. The game was linear and everyone was expecting a gigantic open world, but im almost positive it would have gotten a better reception without a main strong girl cast (all the male characters are somewhat secondary and only the girls have a significant role in the story), which says a lot about society back then. I believe thats why they did the complete opposite with ffxv. The game aged incredibly well tho and feels actually very fresh today, while ffxv boys band aesthetic feels so cringe imo.
@@KC-ro9ro i don't think that the girls being the MCs was the reason, most people like Lightning and company The problem is the linearity and the changes to a more Action RPG combat which made the fandom get angry
@@renren47618 i didnt say it was the reason, but that it was one of the reason, and a big one. They would have been way more open minded if it was the typical boys band. Crisis core, which is kind of mediocre imo, was received extremely well despite its way inferior combat AND completely shifting from ff7 original combat
As someone who isn't really a Final Fantasy fan, I must say I really enjoyed this game. I fell in love with the characters and the story was interesting. The music and cutscenes are amazing and since I don't really care for the other games in the series I had no issue with the game being quite linear - in fact it helped me actually finishing it.
6, 7, 9 and 10 are all amazing games and better than this one. But this one is the most beautiful of all given that it's somewhat current. 6, 9 and Tactics are quite nice to play off a smart phone with a strategy guide or walkthrough by your side. They are all lovely looking games, if a bit dated.
I have so many fond memories with this game. I loved the paradigm system. I set up an attack, a support, and a recovery team and some mixes. I loved jumping between them to keep raging on the game. And the lines of snow and Vanille are failures in translation. And of all the soundtracks, I think this was the best. Dust to dust is so beautiful. Whatever the complaints you get past that quick. And replay is so much more fun because you know what’s going on in the plot. I have more to say but I want to keep this short.
He was a huge idiot at the beginning of the game i remember that i remember him being my favorite character though although the game was unmemorable for me and the story didnt pull me in
I didn't really like hope, but god damn I loved his summon... I saw what his character his about with it. The way he screamed ALEXANDER !!!! while that huge robot hovered him off the floor will never be forgotten. The explosions and laser clashes matched so well with the battle soundtrack.
This was a great video and I pretty much agree with you in all regards. Certainly 13 is my least favourite FF game, but isn't a bad game, I remember being in awe when seeing some of the technical accomplishments. However, I think the biggest issue I had was I just didn't like the characters, they often felt flat and hard to empathise with and this really left a foul taste in my mouth. Tbh, I had a similar issue with 15 outside the main 4, who still felt weak compared to previous FF games. Still, it's one I've been tempted to revisit (along with 15 and the dlc content I've not played) and see if I feel differently today
This is video literally describes every single FF games I've played. I never understand what's going on and thus don't like it until at least a third of the way through.
I call it the "Final Fantasy Cycle". Zelda also seems to go through a similar cycle, but less severe. It all started with FF8, but I think it really became prevalent with FFX. X was met with a lot of praise about the graphics but tons of criticism of the voice acting, the linearity, and the cast. When XII was released, a lot of the flaws of X were overlooked and people lauded it as one of the best in the series. XII was the new ire of the community. Everyone hated the DTB, the new battle system, which essentially melds turned-based and action into one. Everyone hated the political nature of the game and called it "boring". Then XIII was released. Suddenly, everyone loved XII and hated XIII for its new battle system, linearity, and cast. When XV was released, suddenly everyone loves XIII now and doesn't "understand the hate," yet they are quick to criticize XV. It's just the FF Cycle. XV will be remembered fondly once XVI gets released, and XVI will be the new target of undue vitriol. Mark my words.
@@ChaseWSanders this is such an accurate analysis of the final fantasy community as a whole. For better or worse that's the way it is. I don't think I've seen it put this eloquently before!
@@TheAshenDragoon I think FF7 Remake somewhat broke this trend, as it has been mostly praised to high heavens overall, but it STILL has it's fair share of haters though.
@@ChaseWSanders That's a good analysis of FF community. The fandom is full of whiny idiots basically. For me personally: FF7 - Disliked initially, still not a fan. Hated the remake. FF8 - Loved initially, still like it a lot. FF10 - Disliked initially, still dislike it. FF12 - Insta-love and absolutely loved the IZJS version. TZS remaster was great as well. FF13 - Really liked initially esp the battle system, still love it.
Just seeing this for the first time, I have to tell you, I thought I was alone in loving this game, it is by no means my favorite, that one is FFVIII which is also a very divisive opinion, but man ... just as you said, I enjoyed every minute I spent within FFXIII.
Right. I think now, and after more years XIII will look positively in the eyes of the public. Just like VIII and XII. Its weird, i remember the hate tbh, but I really liked the characters, just didnt like the how linear it was and how difficult it got. Now that I am older, I enjoy str8 forward games more and games tend to be easier than difficult. So if I replay this, I would probably feel more positives. Whats crazy is that despite this game not being one of my favorites. I still remember all the boss fights I fought, the soundtrack, the trainers, names of everything basically, and the polarizing battle system. Like despite the controversy, this game definitely made a mark on the FF fans. I think this game will see a very positive light on a remaster ala Zodiac age. And I will be right there to buy it!
@@MarcoPallavidino Now waiting on that remaster!! Weird that we havent gotten it. Considering Squares Record with remastering. I would buy a bundle of FFXIII/XIII-2/Lightning Returns in seconds!!
I actually agree with everything you said about the story, character development, game mechanics and battle system. Lightening is my fav character and the game mechanics is one of the best I’ve played in any FF games. I def recommend this game to this day, just beautiful. All I can say is play with an open mind forget about previous games . Great video btw you did a great job.
FFXIII released on my birthday and was also my very first FF. I love everything about it, even the linear aspect of it because I'm trying to fight in battles and witness a story; Not get lost wandering all the time. I highly enjoy the characters with my favorites being Vanille, Sahz, and Snow. I love that Vanille is a kind and cheery girl who's actually doing everything she can not to have a breakdown, Sahz is a wise man who cares for his son while being the voice of reason (and comic relief sometimes), and Snow's overwhelming optimism and positivity despite everything making his life a literal living hell. I know much of the fanbase dislikes XIII but i feel XIII is where the new generation started in the series (like how Persona 5 brought in alot of new people for example). This game is dear to my heart and remains my favorite FF game to this day.
Ffx2 was my first ff, dropped it, friend made me played 7, didn't play too long but was excited, so bought newest ff which was 13 at the time and it's my first ff I've beaten, really enjoyed the game, very pretty, cool music, challenging combat
@@Shiro92224 I've finished nocturne on hardest difficulty no problem , it's not really hard , buffs are your friends not levels. It was pretty easy. Mot though, boy that was broken lol
I loved this game, i actually liked not understanding everything that was thrown at me, i liked to speculate, and the mystery. Loved the combat and the environment, the maps were so final fantasy, so pretty. And of course, i still remember the music and still love it
Any time I heard someone complain about how linear this game is, I always would approach them with "Gee, you must have hated FFX then huh?" Oh, it was one of your favorites? That's weird, it's equally as linear, so you are just letting other peoples opinions cloud your judgement. Either way, nice video.
Now it sounds like you're letting other people's justifications leak in to what you're saying because I hear that a lot. Final Fantasy X had environments that were larger and well-designed. It had towns to visit and branching paths to explore. The storytelling was also much more fluid, so it was easier to care about the characters. Final Fantasy XIII isn't just linear; it plays like a hallway simulator. I'm fine with linear, but make the environments more interesting and give me characters to care about.
@@PacketWrangler Not really, outside of the Sunken Cave which housed Yojimbo at the end, it was just as equally a "hallway simulator". Yes, FFX had towns to visit, but their only purpose (which isn't a bad thing, and may be what people feel was missing from FFXIII) was to further the story and confuse the player over if the Summoner's Pilgrimage is a good thing or a bad thing. The main difference with FFXIII however that people seem to forget when mentioning the lack of towns is, for the entirety of the game, the party as a whole are wanted fugitives. It only makes sense to avoid places where people gather in massive numbers, even more so with their faces plastered everywhere. The few times that they do wind up going into a town (or amusement park) it doesn't pan out very well for the would be heroes. Also, saying that the environments weren't interesting is disingenuous. Most of the environments were stunning to look around and at times even gave me shivers at the amount of detail put into them. Though I suppose if you played it like a "hallway simulator" and only kept the camera facing forward, I see how you could come to that conclusion.
@Rich1285 you are just the type of player that @VAlucard46 was referring lol. FFX is as a hallway as xiii. Even FF7R is as a hallway as XIII. Also, saying that the XIII environments are not interested... that's a blatant lie. Bersha lake or the archylte steppe is amazing and astonishing. Also, there is a bit of emergent narrative, things that you can learn about the world only by looking at the environment. I'm not saying that you must like XIII only because I like it. The opposite, your enjoyment shouldn't be directed by anyone. But, I mean, you shouldn't use the same argument that you read/heard on webs or TH-cam videos without giving a try, you know? Sometimes, and this is one, things are exaggerated or are direct lies. Clickbait and stuff exists.
@@Rotreboss "you are just the type of player that @VAlucard46 was referring lol. FFX is as a hallway as xiii. Even FF7R is as a hallway as XIII." No. It's important to move the discussion not on the concept of linearity, but on level-design, which is where FFXIII is dramatically inferior to both FFX and FFVIIR. @Rich1285 is absolutely correct when talking about design and all one has to do is to put a map of something like the Mi'ihen Highroad, arguably one of the most straight-forward locations in FFX, and put that same map next to just about any location in FFXIII and the differences are about as dramatic as it gets. Again: Were talking about level-design. It's the illusion of exploration. For example, in the game Half-life you are essentially going from point A to point B, but you don't have that sense of linearity. Why? Because of verticality. Because of area's that are made to give cosmetically the illusion of space. The addition of side-paths. Area's that require mechanics. General push and pull sequences. That Mi'ihen Highroad has a Chocobo you can ride, another path with items that are completely separate, a side-boss you can engage that has story significance later. Final Fantasy XIII has a road. Or a corridor. Or enemies. They look fantastic. The art direction is on point, but these areas are never given the time for exploration or interactivity like FFX or FFVIIR. It's not just a lack of mini-games, or side-paths, side-quests, towns, or NPCs. It's the combination of all that, *on-top* of a world that wont let you have the time of day to interact with it, so you can experience it and understand it with story direction that's more complex from "RUN THROUGH HERE". On the most basic level it's a pacing problem. It also affects the core story that the other games don't have. Like, let's look at the most obvious homage FFXIII has to FFVII. FFXIII like FFVII opens without context with a high action sequence that both using trains just for the fun of it. In FFVII and FFVIIR, the characters talk to each-other and while you're doing the bombing mission so you can learn the context of the world and story while accomplishing your mission. The objective, the context of the world and the story are on the same path. You are learning about the world and the plight though the act of what you're doing. Furthermore, the reactor is a series of corridors, a train station that requires you to go up a flight of stairs, and outside warehouse to finally the catwalks of the reactor itself. *Verticality*. FFXIII has, a highway and tries to do storytelling of the situation between Sahz and Lightning before jumping around to Hope, and then Snow. It's a bit all over-the-place. You're directions are never defined outside of "Run this way" or "We gotta save those people!" Why? Who are these people? Where is the story sequence or gameplay beat where we get to learn this. If we flip the script, if FFVIIR was designed the same way as FFXIII: It might not have had the train ride after the bombing mission. Or the extended time in 7th Heaven to interact with the characters to learn about stuff like what Solider exactly is, or why Shinra sucks, how the society functions and people general motivations. Or the two side-dungeons that showcase the need for the neighborhood watch. These all stack-up, and without the pacing, and the gameplay to facilitate those story beats, most of FFXIII's very important world building is regulated to an encyclopedia. Now the defense of this is that the story cant compensate for you to breathe it all-in. That you're constantly on the run. And that- is correct... In that you being on the run is what the story is about. But that's not an excuse that we can't explain things or interact with the world. FFVI had whole sequences, like FFXIII, that you were on the run. You even had the party split-up like the beginning of XIII. And yet why did not it require an encyclopedia to explain who the Returners are? There's even moments in FFXIII where you're clearly not on the run, and you get small snippets of how the world functions but it's just not enough. At some-point you have to acknowledge that the combination of the pacing, the level design, the writing, there's too many problematic elements that other entries of the series simply don't have. Or have a bit of, and I'm looking at you FFXV. I don't say all of this entirely out of spite. Own the soundtrack. Got the PS3 and 360 versions with a Platinum trophy and all-the-gamerscore. Actually love the characters and I wish XIII's combat would be given another chance with a game that was better designed, written and paced... ...A game like FFX and FFVIIR.
@@nickblomgren Well thought out and well worded, I don't think I have an argument to any point you made here. Namely because as you stated, the level design was lacking in FFXIII. My opinion sits at FFX most definitely had better level design (if you ignore the cloisters lol), but FFXIII had better environments. FFX was more engaging, FFXIII did a better job at showing the size and beauty of the world. I think I even agree with what you are saying about pacing. I think if they would have inserted a few "let's make camp here" sections to dive a bit deeper into character development, it would have gone a long way to better story telling in general.
I just discovered this video and your page because I was replaying FFXIII-2 (thanks to Xbox Game Pass) and was feeling a little nostalgic on FFXIII. Awesome video
Actually played this for the first time a couple of months ago and loved it. Sure it's linear, the tutorial is never ending but the story was compelling (to me) and it was exactly what I needed to get back into JRPG gaming.
I remember fighting the final boss I'm under leveled, i kept dying until i accidentally used poison which worked perfectly lol. I never thought a status effect would work on a final boss in a ff game but it did here lol. I never understand the hate for this game because it's too linear? I mean ff10 did that first.
13 was definitely fairly good. There’s no way the first FF on the PS3 was just going to retread *all* the ways of past games. Now the “sequels” don’t get me started on those 🙄 I mean I could get carried away but first of all 13-2 does not even justify its own logo...
Ironically 13-2 is often held out as thd best of the trilogy. Given I see both games for under $10 each all the time, everyone can just play them and make up their own mind :)
I've just started my final fantasy journey with XIV and VII, I've been hearing a lot about XIII and I was honestly dreading starting the game. But from your video, it doesn't seem that bad. Great video hoping to see more from you, and I wouldn't mind longer videos, if you're up for it
dude I've been a FF nerd since I was 12. I'm 33 now. This is one of the best games/trilogies in the franchise. Its straight forward no bullshit. The story isnt nearly as complicated as dude let's on. Its simple as fuck actually. The combat is nice and streamlined. Sincerely hope you play this game. I truly believe you'll enjoy it.
btw it got added to gamepass recently if you have an xbox. tbh im playing thru my 3rd time lolol. I dunno man I was going thru opiate addiction detox the first play thru, and I guess that pivotal moment in my life interacted with my attachment to the characters and the game itself. I love those games...Lightning returns my least fav.of the trilogy. still all great games. 15 isnt terrible. you can get side tracked with side quests and weapon quests in it pretty easily. camping is key in that game. it's very streamlined and overall easy as far as these games go. i was lvl 63 by chapter 7 😅😅. and side note: ultima weapon in 15 is by far easiest version of weapon to acquire. 15 is good bro. play it for sure. give it til chapter 4 b4 ya make a decision at least. man I couldnt be happier for ya knowing your Final Fantasy Journey has just begun my friend. Ever tried any Tales games? the new one is sick and Vesperia is a classic. FF-9 is my personal fav. so if ya like 7 you'll love 9 my dude. Have fun bro (a guarantee fersure). Your inner nerd has leveled up by getting into Final Fantasy 😆👍
I'm about to start this game on PC for the first time ever. And I've been a fan of Final Fantasys all my life starting with the NES one as a child. I've been debating about diving into FF13 but videos like this make me really excited to... well, in some ways, and not so much on others. Nevertheless, I appreciate your getting this video out. PS. I downloaded and installed all the mods for FF13. Better shading, HD models, and improved FMVs.
Final Fantasy 13 has never been worth playing. It's always been trash. Sorry, but even 15 is objectively better. I've never hated 15, it's got its problems, but its got the bones of a good game. Not so with 13. The entire 13 trilogy is terrible. Even worse than FF12.
I absolutely love the game and don't understand the hate, reckon it's a perfect mix of retro with modern, dam I love the battle mechanic and the first 13 story felt more compelling than the other two 13's (uh hope that makes sense) would absolutely would love to see more jobs with this mechanic, samurai would be very interesting and blue mage and thief, man could go on forever! The whole series have a dreamy feeling about it, idk why it happens but i like it a lot. And last game of the series is one of the rare ocasions i come back one time or another to make another run, it's really fun to me.
This was the first final fantasy game I played, and got me into the series as a whole! It always has a place in my heart...
Yep, this my first FF, and I've played X, X-2, XII, XV IV, VI, and VIIRE. This game is a masterpiece cacooned in a shit fiesta.

Agree. Open world is a negative if the world is boring lol
I mean, I don't really mind linear, but final fantasy 13 is really, really, really, really, really, really linear
@@statesminds Same goes for linear games.
I will not forget the wild chocobo theme ever. That was too perfect.
Also Caius best Villain ever!..... with one of the best music themes too!

Or maybe even a remake!
But for now, I'm actually BEYOND excited for the whole trilogy being on game pass!!
@@TheHeroRobertELee 12 was one of the best. Top 5. 13 is nowhere near the top 5
In all fairness the no NPC interaction makes sense considering you're meant to be some creature that everybody fears
tbh I think if the game had some "party talk" feature like Dragon Quest it would more than make up for the lack of npc interaction
@@NemoyYehaw party members do talk to eachother sometimes when you play but its quite easily missed
They're also on the run. Why would they stop and chat to people?
For that reason I actually really liked the linearity of the game, though they went way way too far with it. I just really got that vibe that I was on the run, being hunted down by the authorities.
@@annoyingmish Love it when there's people in the comments that actually use their brains lol

Lol….the acting. You must have watched some terrible programs.
I loved Snow’s obsession with being a hero because of how it conflicts with the general hopelessness that most of the game throws at him and the cast. He doesnt change much, but he does grow into the role and I think it’s really interesting
Thank you! I like Snow's beginning because it gives him an interesting character arc from XIII, XIII-2, and Lightning Returns.
@@japanorbust Absolutely! Well said!
Snow reminds of Zack just without the charm and charisma and replace it with recklessness and stupidity
Soundtrack absolutely slapped. XIII has my favourite jrpg menu screen with the moving portraits
I remember i put n over 200 hours on ff13!!!! Endless nights stayin up maxing out weapons and characters and did 100% of the trials😩😩😩 SOOO MUCH MEMORIES!!!!
The only achievement I don’t have is Treasure hunter. Held every weapon and accessory
Im actually a big fan of the shift in the setting of FF13. I really appreciated what it went for and I really enjoy the cast. It was sci-fi but still felt super fantasy.
Science fantasy is a thing.
(Quiet) Yaaaaaaaay..."
One of the best things in XV was just riding in Regalia with them boys and admiring the disc as it's raining and listening to previous games' soundtracks(cough FFXIII cough cough). Regalia.
That could be better but that's all
Also, Fang is awesome! Love this woman
I Love Sazh!!! I dont mind it the game being linear... I just hate the battle system...
Agree that open worlds are overrated, but there’s linear and then there’s FF13 linear, this wasn’t done right.
ROSHI has his eyes on fang
So I must give the game another +
But still, I must say, it could be a bit more open.
That's awesome to hear!
I’m playing xiii-2 now and loving it, I loved the first one too
I'm not sure the PS 5 could run FF XIII. It was designed for the PS Triple and its powerful cell processor. Might be too much for the the PS 5 architecture. Lol
I love lightning strikes back... this story and music is making my pockets itch lol
Some comments:
- The lore is amazing even though you have to go through the text boxes (dislike how they did that but it's fascinating to read)
- I kinda liked how each new battle with minions felt like a challenge.
Loved Fang!
XIII I'm playing through (gotten to a grinding phase on Chapter 11) but I managed to complete (not Platinum) XII
Lightning
Still need to play part 3. I loved this franchise! Hope we get some kind of remaster in the future!
Just play it on series x. Looks amazing in 4K.
@@bigt4135 man I'm jealous of xbox players. Is it on the Microsoft store?
I really don't think it needs a remaster honestly, the version that came out on PC years ago (since I'm a PC player) still holds up so well, even the PS3 version still looks pretty good imo
A remake with final fantasy VII's combat would have been fantastic.
This is the first installment I played in the main line FF series along with its sequels, and I really enjoyed them all! I really want to think that the linearity XIII offered was intentional; that it resembled the premise of the story (fulfilling their foci). :D

@@YamatoNCC1701 not as much as ur little broly
I recently got the game on Xbox game pass and I have been wanting to give it a try. So thanks for the video. Enlightening.

I think.

I actually loved this game so much. It’s really good in terms of it being a challenging game lol
Most FF games are too easy. 13 actually has pretty decent difficulty curve Eidolan battles notwithstanding, even the difficulty spike in Gran Pulse is there for a reason to encourage exploration and is properly built up so I hesitate to count it against the game.
You obviously never played a real Final Fantasy game or just a strange boy who likes bad games.

Exactly! Unbelievable how 13 is the hallway simulator, while 10 is the exact same and never gets mentioned as such 🙄
Ffx was way more open on terms of character development and when they do open, ffxnis to every area including many hidden ones.
10 had masterclass pacing thats why it was okay in 10. 13 doesnt not so it feels much much worse.
The game did objectively really well in every key aspect.
you're right, when I first played as a teenager, I was really confused and had no idea what was happening, especially with the battle system and story. but when I played again at 21 (I'm 23 now), I realized......I really like this game! when I beat it, I had a sense of nostalgia and fondness and I even teared up a few times. for anyone on the fence about playing, yeah it's complex but once you understand, you really understand and by that time, you're wrapped up in the story and it's difficult to walk away. you'll definitely want to see the end. so yeah :)
Holy crap that soundtrack brought me back to 12 years old and now I’m crying.

Liked and subbed my man. I enjoyed this video. I was actually feeling nostalgic for this game a few weeks ago so I’m glad I found this video
ff13 is one of my favorite games. i loved the atmosphere every local has, never felt like i was playing a boring location. the enemies were varied and had nice designs.
Exactly, everyone on cocoon hates l'cie, so if they had traditional towns with shops, that would kind of break the narrative.
You have convinced me to replay this gem. I do remember quite a few thrilling moments and that soundtrack… the best.
How was your experience?
I hated those giant turtle wannabes. By far the worst part of the game.
I was in the service when I got introduced to the FF series. One of my battle buddies got me hooked on 13. I played others but 13 is my favorite.

I’m happy to see others even so far past the games release are enjoying it as I am.
thank you for explaining this setup. i had no clue what was going on when it first came out
when i played this back then i was so confused about the combat system
and its just hours and hours of linear gameplay
i was actually keen on having a game with stunning graphics
and ff13 definitely delivered on that front
especially back then this looked insane and even today it looks amazing, pretty crazy after a whole decade
Finally someone spitting some truths
Finally.someone with a brain.
@@KC-ro9ro this i like XV but I think character wise it’s my least favorite Final fantasy
@@KC-ro9ro agreed
@@KC-ro9ro i don't think that the girls being the MCs was the reason, most people like Lightning and company
The problem is the linearity and the changes to a more Action RPG combat which made the fandom get angry
You deserve my like because, not only is this one of my favorite FF games (my 3rd favorite), but you made it justice. Thank you
I have so many fond memories with this game.
Snow Villiers story arc was awesome to, found myself really relating to his plight, even if others didn't like I liked him heaps
Especially when you get into the sequel games. You have to admire him
He was a huge idiot at the beginning of the game i remember that i remember him being my favorite character though although the game was unmemorable for me and the story didnt pull me in
@@DankBeard19 yeah he was at the start, thought to my self oh hear we go Mr try hard point break then at the end was like oooh thems feelings I feel 😎

I have a feeling this will be a game that's looked back on more favorably in the future.

FF7 - Disliked initially, still not a fan.

@@kevindragneel285 I couldn't agree more

Challenging combat? 😂🤣 Nice joke. The SMT series would rip you apart.
Even FF7R is as a hallway as XIII."
No.
