Being disappointed by a Halloween movie is a Halloween tradition
I've never seen any of them. Save for some exceptions, I do not like horrors and I especially loathe the sub-genre of slashers. It's simply cinematic trash to me by default.
That's where you go to die as a filmmaker; to kill off one's career (pun intended).
But I've enjoyed this review very much. :-)

@@mikeadams7904 They have literally never said anything about wanting Paul Rudd in Kills, besides the fact that he is kinda ashamed that he did a Halloween film from what he has said and, then there would be they probably couldn't have afforded Ant Man on a 20 million budget....There was never a time where Paul Rudd was going to be in Halloween Kills, no matter what fantasy you cook up in your head cannon. Ghostbusters had already finished filming before Kills even happened.

They should do a crossover with the Predator franchise. Like where they hear about him and come to Earth to hunt him as the ultimate prey. And after a merry chase he wipes out the Predators, of course. And they set up a sequel with a mid credit scene of him finding the Predator ship and taking it back to their home world.

How funny, my problem IS the ending. It feels like there's a solid 1st act, a shaky 2nd act and...that's it. We've established in 2018 Laurie is our main protagonist so to not have her included in A battle with Michael at the end feels like it's breaking basic screenwriting rules: never let the plot/climax negate the main character. Laurie didn't do nearly anything in the original Halloween 2 but she was in the thick of it in that climax so it feels more natural than here.

A friend and I watched Prince of Darkness and The Fog last night... These movies felt more like what a Halloween movie should be like! There is a dark mystery that unfolds, there are monsters/zombies/ghosts and bad dreams. There is some great slasher stuff...good jumps scares. I found these 2 films to be surprisingly deep and profound, with super thick suspense , a sense of humour and heartfelt "She died for us"...I still can't shake it off! 2 Solid and creative B+ films!

Prince of Darkness is fairly high up on my Carpenter list. Prob Big Trouble, The Thing, They Live, Prince of Darkness, Escape from NY, Halloween, The Fog, and then descends.
If you haven't seen his Masters of Horror episode Cigarette Burns, find it and watch it first night you can. It is great and if it was full length I think it would potentially rank above Halloween for me. It is solid concept that never gets old, and just fucking creepy. Like The Ring meets the Ninth Gate.

John Carpenter is one of the greatest horror directors, while the people who made this here are hacks.

God bless you for speaking the truth about the Rob Zombie takes on Halloween. For some reason, they're revered in certain circles and I just can't understand why.
There is some severe Rob Zombie worship among horror fans just because he made some music and is a diehard horror film fanatic. He has some great taste in horror films but I've never seen anything he has made that I liked. Granted, I haven't seen all of his movies but none of what I have seen made me think I should watch more.

Zombies' movies are awful altogether.
His first film was fantastic, in some ways better than the original. but his sequel was utter trash and was a huge let down.
You know why SOME people like them... it's because we saw the producers cut of Halloween 6 and realized it can indeed get worse.
Halloween 3 is great, when the kids heads turn into bugs and snakes. GLORIOUS! It is just a shame that it wasn't retitled or something along those lines. Maybe drop Halloween and just call it Season of the Witch?

I use to dislike Halloween 3 but have grown to love it!!!
I'm just glad it's on Peacock, and I didn't have to waste money to see it in the theater.

@@shawklan27 For the 3rd time it's a US only streaming service owned by NBC, and they also have the streaming rights for WWE as well, my only real complaints with the service is It won't work on my computers running various Linux distros due to stupid DRM, same for Chrome/Chromium OS, and they need to combine the rest of their NBC content into the service, so I only have to goto one app/channel/website.
Halloween Kills diluted the characters down to the point where they felt like parodies of their Halloween and Halloween 2018 counterparts. I honestly feel like a fan movie would've handled them better than this movie did. I ended up hating Tommy Doyle, and the addition of Lindsey and nurse Chambers was completely superfluous. It was a boring, predictable mess.

The only good thing to come out of this movie was seeing the social media snowflakes loosing their shit over the gay couple getting killed in the movie.

Ironically enough, the Halloween movie fans of Michael Meyers bash most (Season of the Witch) is the one John Carpenter backed the most, and was true to his vision of it being somewhat of an anthology. And not the same thing over and over again.
That's the direction that I wished they went with the franchise, even though I'm knowingly sacrificing all of my favorite kills from Halloween 4 and the part in Halloween 6 where that radio DJ just gets done calling Michael Myers a pussy on a cell phone call and is promptly murdered by him.
It's one of the most absurd scenes in the entire franchise and the set-up is so hilarious. Like who--after everything that's happened in that town--would ever refer to Michael Myers as "a pussy", knowing what they know about him and his history of Terminator-like Midwesterner genocide? It's like the filmmakers are saying to you "Here, audience, have one on the house."
I love Halloween lll. And the ones with Jamie Lloyd pre-pregnancy.. but then Rob Zombie had to totally taint little Jamie with the pink overalls. I just can't with the Annie thing.
Michael Myers is just a dumb, nothing character. Audiences are truly stupid for insisting on movies featuring him.

I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about this movie. Some of the parts I liked, others had me kind of confused and didn’t really hold my attention.
Same, and I had it playing on my Android tablet(Peacock won't work on my Linux computers grrr) at work while I was finishing paperwork the other day, and it was perfect for background noise as was by myself at my office, but it was for sure not enough to hold my full attention like you. The only real good thing to come out of this movie IMHO was seeing the all the social media snowflakes loose their shit over the gay couple being killed in the movie(I have no issues with the gay couple, just funny seeing them lose their shit).

It was so hard getting through this movie. Sitting in the cinema, it felt like the movie was 4 hours long.

For me Halloween is one of those movies that should never have become a franchise, at least not one revolving around Michael Myers. The first movie is a reflection on the nature of evil and ultimately that's what's so scary about it - that evil can come from anywhere. Any follow-up to that is just redundant as far as I'm concerned because the first film said all it needed to say. 🤷♂️

@@dimitrescu182 The problem is that the time to start an anthology series is with the second one. If you make two movies about Subject X and then announce a third movie, everyone is going to think the third movie will also be about Subject X, even if it's actually concerning Subject Y.

The original 1978 film is one of my all-time favorite horror films and I despise what they did to its memory with this seemingly never-ending franchise. It's pretty much a perfect film, a virtuoso piece of story-telling that claims no metaphysical significance for itself at all. It also appears to be shockingly violent, but in fact it is not. In a sense, though, it IS a fantasy since the looming, unkillable Michael Myers is not just a mere lunatic, but an incarnation of all the supernatural evil forgotten by the people who make a joke out of Halloween today. That said, I DID enjoy "Halloween H20" and thought it was the only sequel which did some justice to the first movie.

@@MrJohnlennon007 I'm afraid I'm not a fan, no. I would agree about it being a fitting end if the film itself had been on a par with the first one. It's still superior to every embarrassing sequel that followed, though, with the notable exception of "H20", as I have mentioned. I think it's an unnecessary sequel that's just an excuse for a selection of gory, graphic slayings in an attempt to make it scarier - it isn't, it's just more violent... and ultimately bland and underwhelming.
"Halloween" played with the audience in terms of expectation and suspense, and its simplicity came from the fact that no explanation was needed; so the "shocking" family reveal in the second film comes off as somewhat forced.

I think Mark is really strong with these analyses on why movies don't work. He has some great insights and always does it in a humorous way. I also enjoyed his take on the problem with M. Night Shyamalan movies.
Seeing what looks like a mime in the middle of Angry Mob definitely South Parked it for me. From them all yelling "Evil dies Tonight!", it's a *very* thin line away from "They took Urr jobs. They took Urr jobs!", followed by Randy Marsh leading them all away to shenanigans. Which would be a *great* name for a pub, now that I think of it - Shenanigans.
Me: "I swear if they chant or say "EVIL DIES TONIGHT!" one more time, I'm rooting for all of these characters to die."

Everytime there's a bad Halloween movie, Halloween lll moves up a bit more. That movie rules.
This is why I like Friday the 13th series more (I still like Halloween except for these newer ones) they never reset the series except for that one that shall not be named...

7 Halloween 6 (THE PRODUCER'S CUT because Donald Pleasence sadly died after filming and the studio felt they had to make it "hipper for kids"... so they got a new actor for Loomis and shot a worse version which is what got released in theaters)

The mob made sense to me. Bc Michael has just killed a whole ass fire department AFTER killing almost 20 other ppl. All in one night. And they still couldn't find him. Lol
I can't recall, but did the town know the details of all the deaths at that point? Or did they just know that Myers has escaped?
Also, they showed the pictures of Michael and the other guy...but the mob just assumed the short guy in the hospital was Michael?
I didn't mind the mob deciding to hunt Michael. The hospital scene and the "Are the monsters?!?!" was a bit much.

The problem with all the sequels and the reboot was one thing: Greed. Greed in dragging this monster out of the closet one more time…and one more time again.
What has transpired with the newest film is the same thing. One film or possibly two at best has been dragged out to 3..leaving a flimsy middle that could snap at any time…like taffy stretched too thin.
They basically comitted the same sin as the sequels by marketing to the fans and promising to do better…only to succomb to the same greed that created H2O, resurrection and the like.
I watched Halloween III: Season of the Witch yesterday. It's actually pretty good, but it's more in the vein of sci fi horror like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's not a slasher movie.

DUDE! YOU SAW HIS PICTURE ON THE NEWS. There's literally a shot of him seeing the news on TV where they show both of the patients and their names.
Also, Tommy won't let that night in 1978 die since he always talks about it, even goes to a bar every Halloween in remembrance. Surely he knows what Michael looks like since he's been imprisoned.
I wonder if any of the people who encountered Michael Myers and survived ever went to visit him in the hospital.

i found this movie unintentionally, hilarious.
the opening scenes in the 80s kept making me laugh unintentionally,
the one scene where he kills the old black guy in the kitchen by stabbing him with about five knifes,
the scene where the one black lady gets killed by having a door hit her gun making her shoot herself,
when laurie gets out of the hospital bed and then gets instantly injured again,
when the one grandaughter tries to stop michael from killing her boyfreind, but michael fuckin just keeps hitting him in the head,
an entire town "killing" michael and then they die instantly afterwards,
i can name a few more but i would need to rewatch the film
A lot of people are comparing the Haddonfield lynch mob to a Maga rally so conservatives are complaining about that but people tend to forget that Halloween Kills was filmed in 2019 but its release was delayed by year because of the pandemic. So it was originally supposed to be released last year long before January 6th.
@@BaranoffIsaac originally I think it was just a huge reference to Halloween 4 since there was a lynch mob in that movie and then 2020 happened so people want to make it some stupid allegory
Liked the original the most obviously. Halloween 4 then maybe the second best for me. Halloween 5 is kind of alright, the final 30 minutes is quite tense. Haven't seen them all though.

I was with the movie and the premise as contrived and silly as it was for the most part until we got to the scene where Michael uses a car door to get the Black nurse lady to shoot herself in the face and I just burst out into hysterical laughter in the theater. After that the movie was a comedy. A morbid, dark comedy but a comedy nonetheless.

And I'd just like to add this; the kills in this one were pretty ridiculous too. The last one really set up a realistic-feeling world where the franchise would be grounded again in scientific reality, but then this one comes along and feels like 'H6' all over again. =(

I live in a city in the UK called Liverpool. In 1993 a toddler was taken from his pram in a very busy shopping mall, by two children who were 10 or 11 years old. They tortured that boy before he died from the horrific injuries.
These boys were taken and given whole new lives and names elsewhere. The people of my city would mob up like in halloween kills, if the identities of these two murderers was ever found. Infact people have been mkstakenly identified as them and have had to have thaiem selves removed from the city.
What happened in haddonfield in the 1st movie can cause the mob mentality and it would brand the city or town forever.
We have never forgotten what happened to baby Jamie. And its a sore scab that will never heal into a scar.
That is horrendous and my love goes out to baby Jamie's family.
The rage you're talking about probably has a lot to do that it was a helpless child coupled with what was done.
In Haddonfield, it was 3 teenagers and the adult phone repairman all of who had relatively quick deaths.
This is also America where there are psychotic people who insist that someone didn't actually walk into a school called Sandy Hook and massacred 20 children and 6 teachers with a rifle...some even harassing the parents to get them to confess that the child they lost didn't really exist...
It's just hard to believe that people here would work themselves into that kind of frenzy so quickly.
The script was often very stupid but I had a really fun time regardless. They really nail the presentation in these new movies.
It’s just another movie capitalizing on nostalgia. Kills was all over the place. I just stick to 1 and 2 and consider 3 as good as 1, only remove the Halloween title and just consider it The Season of the Witch.
3 is the only one I ever really liked but yeah it was hurt by not being a Myers movie after the first two were. As you said it really should just be "The Season of the Witch" and not Halloween.
This movie gives me 80's after-school special/anti-violence PSA vibes...

Good review. You mentioned the mob forming and not making sense with the events taking place 40 years prior.. If you think about certain events in the world, groups form in the matter of seconds into bloodthirsty mobs over misinformation.. It makes no sense, but it has happened.
There's a lot of people that are mad that he took out all those firefighters but these same people must not like the Terminator the original one because he took out a lot of public servants too.
Killing firefighter is fine. The absurd way he takes on like 6 was just so dumb. Ridiculous. A couple times it went so far fetched I couldn't even suspend disbelief enuf
I'm completely with you about H20; and as far as I'm concerned that's where the series officially ended. Now that's closure!
But then the stupid bit with Laurie in the hospital and she thinks she has to take the mask off to be sure. Why? Whoever he is HE'S BEEN TRYING TO KILL YOU! Just do it!

My ratings of the Halloween movies:
1. The original 1978 Halloween
2. The other 11 films were shit.
The last movie I enjoyed in this franchise was H20. Mainly because I was a fan of Josh Hartnett and his bad haircut. I liked the original Halloween because of that scene where the white guy gets pegged to the wall with the giant knife.

I loved the movie, but yes, the mob thing was not great. Maybe the record of yelling "Carol Anne, Carol Anne!!!" in Poltergeist III is now beaten by Halloween Kills' "Evil dies tonight!!!"
Anyway, every Myers scene was epic and therefore I forgive the dialogue
